Something we learned when it comes to fencing, plan your access points carefully. Make sure gates are placed where you can easily get in and out of the spaces as well as large enough to get equipment through.

When you look for a tractor, you might consider a skid-steer or bobcat instead. Lots of attachments are available, including an auger. Extremely useful and versatile!

The auger is designed to be used with two operators. Much safer!

Love this! We use a utv and a manure dragger to spread, another cheaper way than a tractor and nicer to use in snow!

Helpful to hear various tools for your farm. The long, heavy metal pole you held is fantastic for digging down into the ground and for building your arm/shoulder muscles. A fellow gardener (in his 70s) uses his grandfather's for gardening purposes. It is very heavy and will give you a good workout. Taking breaks is beneficial with this tool.
The auger needs two people, hence, two handles; you need two people who are focused with no distractions of any kind, standing with knees slightly bent with shoulders-square to the handle, and wearing leather gloves. Goggles may be helpful for flying debris.

We call the bar/tamper a "digging iron".

Thank you for this video! This is just what I need, as we are shaping our piece of land right now for animals! You're awesome, Carmella.

The best time to spread manure is in the morning and when the ground is not frozen. That cuts down on the smell as well. I’m now a certified manure management consultant. We also use our riding lawnmower for everything. The zero turn ability is great for the manure spreader and the drag harrow.

May I ask about flies & fly larvae, if the spreader increases or reduces fly populati1on. Flies are bad already in Florida this year. Usually we remove our manure from our fields & compost and/or spread along paths in our woods. Seems to control flies somewhat.

Question: I thought you were not supposed to spread manure on fields that horses graze on???
