Seiko Monster 1st gen owner, bought new and still rocking it until today since 2007 or 2008. Can’t remember exactly which year. Still searching for the box and receipt buried under some old stuff. 😅
This watch still brings smile on my face when wearing and checking it in broad daylight or in total darkness.

Wow! Totally awesome watch! I'm putting the Penguin on my list of "gottagits". Penguins are probably my favorite birds. So formal, so friendly. So comical out of water. So graceful underwater. And this Seiko is to die for.
I've always kind of ignored Seiko divers. Orient seemed to offer the same or similar quality at a much more budget-friendly price. I've got the Orient Triton/Neptune and figured I would never need another diver. But ... now I'm rethinking.
    Great video, as always.

Thanks Keith, yeah the only gripe i have about this watch is that it's too big for me, but the dial is really stunning

I have a 160mm wrist and it wears on the big side, but actually fine. The lugs angle downward sharply so there’s no overhang. The stainless steel colour bezel helps makes the watch appears smaller visually as well. If you want a reasonable size watch that doesn’t stand out, this is probably too big. But then again, if you want a more understated watch, you wouldn’t be looking at the monster to begin with

Nice review. I have one dive watch in my collection it’s a Ginault Silent Service. The size and comfort made it my favorite.

Thanks for your kind words! I really appreciate the introduction to the Ginault Silent Service brand. It's my first time hearing about it, and I'm liking it so far from my first impression

Great review! Couldn't agree more on the dial. It's beautiful.
I've got the tuna version and find myself still gravitating to it at least once a week 🙂

That was a breath of fresh air 👌🏻! Really enjoyed this review. Your light approach is very appealing, and the editing is excellent. I’m glad I stumbled upon this channel 🤗.
BTW, watching this while wearing my beloved Seiko save the ocean king samurai dark manta special edition (Seiko naming🙄😂). Just switched today from a nato to its original rubber band 💙.
Keep it going. You’re style is very cute.

Watching this video with a SRP777 on my wrist. Great to see a Monster being reviewed in 2023! One of the few models that can only be admired by some for its quirks - a breath of fresh air honestly, from the conventional preferences that celebrate refined/luxury anything these days. Also, nice to see a fellow Malaysian watch lover, keep making videos of watches!

Awesome review Ashley . I own this watch but the made in Japan 🇯🇵 model SBDY115. I also own the SBDY105 Save the Ocean Antarctica Monster as well. Both are amazing 🤩 Seiko divers and for the price probably the best and most beautiful dials you’ll ever see on a watch . I own the SRPE39J1 Manta Ray King Turtle 🐢 as well and another stunning dial . Almost Grand Seiko dial quality 👍🏻💯

Not sure why people hate the date /day magnification. Easier to read. Do people hate the date cyclops on Rolex? I think not.

    • @ProjectSerpo90
      @ProjectSerpo90 2 місяці тому

I never understood that either. I only have one watch with a cyclops (Seiko SRPE37) and everytime it goes back in my rotation I instantly appreciate the magnification. I have never heard anybody complain about it on their Rolex Sub. Can i live without it? Sure, but i really do like a cyclops and the Monster in general is one of my favorite looking dive watches.

Still I prefer to see whole penguin than only their feet, but I have chosen

I have a small collection of Monsters - some Gens 1,2 and a 4. When the Gen 4 showed up I immediately hated the huge cyclops which distorts a large portion of the dial if not viewed dead on. So I changed the crystal. Problem solved. If one wants hand winding and hacking in a Gen 1, the movement can be swapped out for an NH35.

It's not easy paying $550 foe mineral crystal and stamped clasps . I bought a Heimdallr monster homage which just has a skeletonised shark logo. It has a white frosted textured dial with saffire crystal , milled clasp for $130.
I really love Seiko but not the prices and cheap materials.
I will buy a Seiko monster when I see my dial . Blood red .
