I have grown to love the monster, and really wanted to get the Jade monster last year from Japan, but then life got in the way!!! Excellent video, as always, Peter!!
I have the Jade Monster on a "Beads of Rice" bracelet, it is the most commented on watch I own when out in public, my Rolex and Omegas don't even get a nod, this one is a conversation starter!
@@PeterKotsa There's this stuff called Goof Off. It could be used to remove stickers and other stuff. It eats away the adhesive. I put a little bit of the liquid in a paper plate and dip a toothpick and touch the Cyclops until it was fully covered with the Goof Off. I kept doing this every ten minutes making sure there was always Goof Off around the Cyclops for about 1 1/2 hrs and the adhesive was almost completely gone but I got tired of waiting so i gave it a lite tap and it came off very easy because it was barely hanging on. These are discontinued watches from a special production run from 2018-2019 they were JDM releases. Luckily I own the Jade they have now become very expensive selling for almost $1000 I payed $450 including import charges.
As an ex diver I liked these bezels with the 15min having distinctive markers. The 2020 PADI Monster bezel is even better with the pip being marked red. Almost as legible as the Damasko Sub2 diver.
Nice one. I have my Jade Monster on a hexad bracelet. Been meaning to pop the cyclops off and put a sapphire crystal on it. The cyclops is the only fault really, it is difficulty to read because of reflections. The standard bracelet also doesn't feel very solid either. But the dial is spectacula. r
I like the monster. I have this green one. My favourites are those with the fangs. I have a very limited srp461k1. Quite difficult to find now, and, price has shot up.
No kidding they have QC problems. My Seiko turtle "blue lagoon" new out of the box has a smudge on the underside of the crystal right above the date window. Oh but the bezel alignment is perfect🙄
Think you might've gotten unlucky with the samurai. But tbh, many retailers actually state that there seikos watches have misaligned bezel and chapter ring. I.e Seiyajapan, something that can not be avoided unless you are getting the more higher end offerings. Yes it feels terrible when we get unlucky, ive been unlucky with certain movements running out of spec, Heck even limited models such as the crown presage, mine runs at +30sec/day and guess what since im in Melbourne i cant go to the boutique and get it fixed. I agree, they got it right...apart for the low production numbers. They are available for a short period of time then the production stops. And the price skyrockets. Good luck finding a 3rd gen at a decent price.
There are two reasons why Monsters will be aligned while most other Seikos aren't (the aligned one you have is the weird one): 1) The bezel is milled, there is no bezel insert that could be inserted at a slight offset of up to 1.5° from a click. 2) Chapter ring has to fit the markers, other models usually have a floating chapter ring that has to be manually aligned with nothing holding it in the right place when it's being assembled.

Great review Peter, I actually owned every monster ever released, a complete collection but decided to sell them on after a long hard decision. Prices on the up also now.
My Turtle (the one that doesn’t hack) has other issues too. While the chapter ring and bezel seem to align okay, the bezel action itself is not good. For about 3/4 of the way its rather rubbery with it improving only in that last quarter. While the accuracy of it and my other Seiko...a type of field watch with an internal rotating compass bezel (with alignment issues too, and not an Alpinist) are both losing about a minute a day! Which is very poor...and this was from new. The experience has definitely put me off purchasing anymore lower-end affordable Seiko’s unfortunately. The fact that neither are “Made In Japan” watches might have something to do with it too. Seiko seem to have poor quality control outside of Japan.
I must say, even though most Seiko’s except for the SKX don’t fit my smaller wrist well, the Monster looks like a tempting option. Too bad these are all sold out.
It's probably best to get these before Seiko updates them with a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, and bumps up the price to double lol... I like the 2nd gen better, although not at the prices they are being offered atm :(

Phone manufacturers: look smaller bezels, bigger real state area! Monitor and TV manufacturers: look smaller bezels, bigger real state area! Watch manufacturers: Look, immense and gigantic bezels with useless numbers and really small legible area! 😂
You better enter a raffle or some kind of lottery. The odds of having three seikos, all with good quality control is probably the same as winning some lustrous grand prize.
Hi buying a Seiko seems to be a crap shoot in terms of QC. I have several Seiko but in general the Japan made stuff is better ( not perfect ) than the Malaysian made stuff. But if you are getting a Seiko around $500 then it’s pure pot luck, and I don’t think that’s ever gonna change due to the manufacturing , marketing and distribution model in use.
Seiko has imo always been a cheap brand (lineage means zero, if they cheapen the brand themselves) ... and they seem to be going back to those roots with their "fashion brand" line of watches, recently. Seiko is the brand that adds things to watches they KNOW the intended wearer will never use, BUT they stick them on to add either weight or presence. Like ANY fashion brand does. Quality control is a SURE sign they are dumbing down quality because they feel those affected aren't concerned with brand integrity. ABORT!
Why why why do Seiko stick with those ugly bracelets that they have been using since day one, put a beautiful heavy duty shark mesh bracelet on it and you have something that will really stand out from the rest, Seiko just never ever get their bracelet styling right.
I want one so badly but I am not paying over 1k EUR for a new one and over 500 for a used one. I'll wait for a 4th gen version with steel bezel and hopefully orange or bright blue dial
@@PeterKotsa yeah the current models of gen 4 do not seem to be that popular (but I guess this is due to the lack of option as there currently is no steel bezel version, also no orange dial etc.) Really hope to see such a variant soon.

I used to hate this line from seiko at first but for some reason it grew on me. Specially the 3rd gen monsters 👌
Too bad they discontinued them and replaced them with the inferior 4r36 models with the day/date cyclops
Probably marketing on Seiko's behalf. I have noticed as of late we are getting less product value for more money spent
The stars are aligning ..lol
Nonsense, I have 7 Seikos and they are all perfect.
lobserve1 Bad eyes are a Seiko collectors best friend
Hi buying a Seiko seems to be a crap shoot in terms of QC. I have several Seiko but in general the Japan made stuff is better ( not perfect ) than the Malaysian made stuff. But if you are getting a Seiko around $500 then it’s pure pot luck, and I don’t think that’s ever gonna change due to the manufacturing , marketing and distribution model in use.
You’re probably right. I’ve had similar experience at that price point
Excellent video
Thanks :)
Design wise, so this is what happens when Seiko does G-Shock
yeah you could say that..LOL
Too bad they’re sold out everywhere.
Yep, I agree
Monster with No Monster Teeth !!!!!!!!!
These are refined, they went to the dentist to get their teeth cleaned and shaped...lol
Peter Kotsa hahhahahahaha 😝
Seiko has imo always been a cheap brand (lineage means zero, if they cheapen the brand themselves) ... and they seem to be going back to those roots with their "fashion brand" line of watches, recently. Seiko is the brand that adds things to watches they KNOW the intended wearer will never use, BUT they stick them on to add either weight or presence. Like ANY fashion brand does. Quality control is a SURE sign they are dumbing down quality because they feel those affected aren't concerned with brand integrity. ABORT!
I really dislike the cyclops
There’s a viewer who commented on this video, he took his Cyclops off with an adhesive remover
He reckons it worked a treat 👍
@@PeterKotsa , interesting! My biggest regret of course is not buying one a few years ago when they were a couple hundred quid..
That thing is hideous
LOL
I did say in the video you either LOVE these or HATE them..😂😂
Welcome to the party 😎
Why why why do Seiko stick with those ugly bracelets that they have been using since day one, put a beautiful heavy duty shark mesh bracelet on it and you have something that will really stand out from the rest, Seiko just never ever get their bracelet styling right.
YEP, totally agree. I thought average bracelet's were their trademark though :)))
We've all gotten used to this stuff I suppose
cheers
I want one so badly but I am not paying over 1k EUR for a new one and over 500 for a used one. I'll wait for a 4th gen version with steel bezel and hopefully orange or bright blue dial
Hopefully the 4th Gen doesn't sell out like hot cakes and there's heaps to go around for all of us
cheers
@@PeterKotsa yeah the current models of gen 4 do not seem to be that popular (but I guess this is due to the lack of option as there currently is no steel bezel version, also no orange dial etc.) Really hope to see such a variant soon.
