I bought that exact model in the 70s. Just because of the new one piece rubbery tires offered instead of 2 piece hard plastic ones. I loved how the tires squished like real tires and the pattern it left in the dirt
Good to see. I rebuilt a started, original issue of this kit and I was quite happy with the results. I painted the top flat white which I think looks better than a flat black top. I would think that black would make it pretty hot on a sunny day in the cab, although a white top would show the dirt more if not cleaned. I never buy any of the chinese made reissues of kits, first because I don't want to support offshore jobs and secondly because of the high prices.
I remember this kit well, my brother built this model when we were both in grade school. I am going to pick this up at my local hobby store and build it.
Just had me a hpiguy video marathon , this is a sweet kit , and the back to the future kits were cool too Thanks for the review Chris great job Always cool to see what's in the box !
Retro scores again! Nice review, camera may have difficulty focusing on the white plastic without any definition? Anyway, they provide most of the Boondocker issue graphics on the sheet, nice bonus. A tip for eliminating the under hood stack cutout and adding texture at the same time, is to cut out Kleenex tissue sections, then moisten them in place with super thin (watery stuff) super glue. The tissue will soak it up and harden, creating a uniform texture ready to paint. Best to fill in the cutout with putty first. Much easier than sanding in there, plus it adds texture.
Man I love your videos,I make functioning model cars and most of the time I need to know how the parts inside the box look and what Im working with..with your videos I get to see everything thats in the box and I think that's awesome..2 thumbs up👍👍keep the model unboxing videos coming
Those Firestone All-Terrain T/C off-road tires are interesting. When I built my AMT T-200 "Boondocker" Chevy Blazer kit in 1977-78, those off-road tires were Gates Commando XT tires.
There was another box for this called "Boondocker Blazer" that I remember from the late seventies. I built several of them, one of which was molded in orange, the other in white.
I find when i cut along the seam the wrap will wrinkle and fall off, so i cut 1/2 and inch inward, which when the bottom is removed, it curls inside the lid and keeps it taught.
i built many of this kit over the years i've always been disappointed about one thing the front bumper is wrong that bumper is a 67-70 where the kit is a 72 the 72 bumper should have turn signals overall, its a real beautiful kit i want more, many more
Hi, I really appreciate your vidios. I even watch ones for kits ive already built. Just a point on the extra fuel tanks. Back in the day the woild have been aluminum, some guys would polish them some would be painted. So do what feels good to you! Thanks.
I have been working on this model and when it came to the rear bumper it was to long for the blazer. over all I'm making it a custom build but am working on making it a split rear bumper
The removable top on these also was available in white, in fact I don't think I ever saw a black one from the factory, most people opted to go for the white one that was more resistant to the chalky fading that the black was more prone to.
The layout here on the detailed instructions pamphlet, and the trophy series instruction pamphlets AMT and some of older mpc rerelease kits anyone remember those kits, the third version of the 53 Ford truck with the tools and welding or cutting torch tanks and the west coast mirrors instead of the round high mount pedestal mirror only in the Dr side, and the 4th version of the 57 chevy Bel Aire the sport coupe, and the second version of the release of the 51 Chevy car ?!
Huh the front bumper for the 72 Chevy c20 Cheyenne super c10 I mean anyway it was also scratched so I lightly painted it the same purple boyd pearl chezoom as I painted the truck and it looks like a purple tinted chrome lol
Those tires should be in the mobeius kits or something similar true?! And revell most of them are no name standard radial and slicks or a two piece hard plastic truck type tire yeah don't care for most of them either and can they learn how to do decent aluminum and magnesium slot and magnum 500 style wheels and the basic cragar s/s wheels??
I do wish they would make a 67-68 Chevy custom trim or cst for 68, and the 69-70 grille option they look more classic and flow better with the timeless bodylines in my opinion although I know I may completely stand alone with that thought process of well I don't try or want to fit in...
I couldn't agree more with your comments about Revell. They used to have good tires but never renewed their license with Goodyear and now all we get are generic plain tires. Thank goodness I've found people who make tire decals but we shouldn't have to do that
They are getting some pad printed tires in the kits these days, so they'll grabbed the licenses back and use them on occasion. Even some BFG tires have popped up in Revell kits lately.
Looks like a cool kit! I have the amt Thunderbolt monster truck and it has all the same parts as this kit, so we know what that kit was based off of. KUTGW
Anyone remember the blue 72 Chevy c30 ramp truck i wish they would rerelease that kit it's another one that got broken happens when you move and your little brother and nephew move into your room...
while I understand that your reviews are ''box stock' builds, one thing this kit & the "Gear Hustler" el camino kit would benefit from would be the inclusion of a BALL HITCH! they're trucks firchrisake. if you're gonna use construction graphics, as well as a hard hat & tool box, a trailer hitch of some kind is almost a requirement.
Hi, I'm building a old Mpc jeep cj5 model kit,the parts are molded in red and I was wondering if you had any tips for painting over the red because I've never painted a kit that wasn't molded in white
MrBreeze Thankfully I don't have to hide anything. If you check out my stash video you'll see I have an extensive RC addiction as well, just haven't put many on video yet. :)
I know the answer to my question it's about money but why can't model companies make their tires out of real rubber like they do with some military vehicles. I bought a Trumpeter personnel carrier from Trumpeter and it had all rubber tires you could smell them it smell like you were in Pep Boys. For what they charge for a plastic model nowadays they should have real rubber tires.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the review Chris great job
Always cool to see what's in the box !
Glad you enjoy them Corey. Have a great day.
I like this kit. Growing up the father of a couple of friends of mine had a light blue one with a white roof.
Nice review, I love these kinds of kits and the options are great. I like the idea of doing a custom off-roader and a contractor work horse.
I built this when i was a kid. It was molded in Orange. I used the tires but i had some different AMT custom wheels from another custom kit.
Awesome review, I have been contemplating buying this kit and you just sold me on it!
Thanks Willis!
Excellent review! Thank you for posting your video!
JackFlemingFan Thanks for the nice words. Enjoy!
Great review...I want this one !, your detailed reviews are just great keep em coming
Thank you, I really appreciate that!

Glad to help!
As always another great review! The decals are nicely detailed. Should make the kit pop once painted.
Thanks Mike!
The reason the door panels are molded in is it is vintage tooling. That's how they did them when this kit was originally tooled.
yes sir i agree with you on the tires wish every kit would have tires like those
Those Firestone All-Terrain T/C off-road tires are interesting.
When I built my AMT T-200 "Boondocker" Chevy Blazer kit in 1977-78, those off-road tires were Gates Commando XT tires.
Very nice kit. Can't wait to get one.
Yes, Yes! I absolutely agree about the Ebay scalpers comment.
I get a warm feeling when the scalpers cry in their styrene when re-releases come out.
There was another box for this called "Boondocker Blazer" that I remember from the late seventies. I built several of them, one of which was molded in orange, the other in white.
Cool!
I remember the "Boondocker" my brother built it back in the late 70's. He still has it, it looks awesome!
I would like to see the furnished version and i liked the video. Thanks keep it up
I find when i cut along the seam the wrap will wrinkle and fall off, so i cut 1/2 and inch inward, which when the bottom is removed, it curls inside the lid and keeps it taught.
I had had fun watching your video !
Rene Glandorff Thank you :)
i built many of this kit over the years
i've always been disappointed about one thing
the front bumper is wrong
that bumper is a 67-70 where the kit is a 72
the 72 bumper should have turn signals
overall, its a real beautiful kit
i want more, many more
I actually used a bumper from the coke c10 model to make it right
monogram issued a nice blazer i still have the 2 i bought when i was a kid built one the other one is still sealed it was maroon on the box
Yes, that's a nice kit too.
Hi, I really appreciate your vidios. I even watch ones for kits ive already built. Just a point on the extra fuel tanks. Back in the day the woild have been aluminum, some guys would polish them some would be painted. So do what feels good to you! Thanks.
Thanks for the info :)
Another great review thanks gotta pick one of these up!
Thanks Rick :)
Good thing grandma is in the other room.

I prefer the hood for the Cheyenne super kit and the ramp truck both are made different
I do wish they would make a 67-68 Chevy custom trim or cst for 68, and the 69-70 grille option they look more classic and flow better with the timeless bodylines in my opinion although I know I may completely stand alone with that thought process of well I don't try or want to fit in...

@@hpiguy Yeah and Firestone Wide Ovals
The odd thing about this kit is that the rear wheels are 5 lugs and the fronts are 6 lugs.
Heck with what the Goodyear parts pak tires cost, it is almost worth it for just the tires.
Right? I agree.
that match paint guide be helpful went go auto or model shop for paint on this kit
Looks like a cool kit! I have the amt Thunderbolt monster truck and it has all the same parts as this kit, so we know what that kit was based off of. KUTGW
That's cool, never heard of that one. Great reference!
The original Boondocker kit (AMT T200) predates the Thunderbolt kit by a few years.
You should build this to match your AMT ‘65 El Camino and bull dozer.
Anyone remember the blue 72 Chevy c30 ramp truck i wish they would rerelease that kit it's another one that got broken happens when you move and your little brother and nephew move into your room...
Nice review, I'm building a version of this kit at this time. Great kit!
while I understand that your reviews are ''box stock' builds, one thing this kit & the "Gear Hustler" el camino kit would benefit from would be the inclusion of a BALL HITCH! they're trucks firchrisake. if you're gonna use construction graphics, as well as a hard hat & tool box, a trailer hitch of some kind is almost a requirement.
I blame the weather for the camera issues LOL
Have you noticed that truck has no front turn signals?
They should be in the front bumper
Can you assemble this? You built the caterpillar and gear hustler.
do the 50 olds custom
I have a 69 Cougar eliminator. What color do you think?
+Karen Romberger What color do I think your car is?
Okay so you have the bulldozer, the crew chief Blazer, the El Camino now you need a big rig to haul the dozer lol.
Right, I have the Autocar I built, just need a nice flatbed.
I had one.
Round air cleaner is not stock.
nice !
Thanks! Very nice kit, I agree.
great reveiw consider yourself subbed to lol
Thanks Gene! I appreciate the nice words and the subscription. :)
nice
The mini box is a waste. I would much rather see factory stock and gauge decals.
Hi, I'm building a old Mpc jeep cj5 model kit,the parts are molded in red and I was wondering if you had any tips for painting over the red because I've never painted a kit that wasn't molded in white
+Brandon Gray You can prime the parts with a grey or black primer, should help cover it up.
Thanks I'll have to try that
If I prime it I should be able to paint silver or steel over it right? +hpiguy's Workshop
+Brandon Gray Black primer would make the shadows and panel lines stick out nicely under a steel paint job.
Thanks for the help I'll send send pics when I'm done the build+hpiguy's Workshop
If you have to hide plastic model kits from your wife, then you don't want to get into RC
MrBreeze Thankfully I don't have to hide anything. If you check out my stash video you'll see I have an extensive RC addiction as well, just haven't put many on video yet. :)
Awesome, I'll check it out.

For what they charge for a plastic model nowadays they should have real rubber tires.
Rubber also dries out and falls apart, you'll see kits with rubber tires sometimes crack and fall off.
Lol hide check book put grandma In other rm right on
Hahaha!
