10 Minutes at Nubble Light House

- I was in Maine this week. I set this up to be a time lapse, but when I sped it up, I realized that sometimes watching a light house while the sun goes down in real time is also quite nice.
This was my grandfather's favorite place in the world. He was really involved in civil rights and caring everyone in his community and each of the students that he served. This light house has become a symbol in our family of him and whenever I see this image I am reminded of the light he brought to the world. The fact that you two chose to spend your time there honestly almost makes me tear up. So many people have deep connections to different places and views, making them meaningful in so many different ways. This was what I thought of when I watched this, and I am wondering what others were thinking/feeling.

So I have always thought time ought not to be killed, but sometimes I also think it wasn't meant to be spent. Sometimes, I spend my time trying to work hard enough to buy myself a future where I don't worry about the passing minutes as I try to finish my homework, a place where somehow the clocks don't try to measure me anymore.
But time is not money. Time is just the sunlight goldening and waves lapping over me. I think I need to let go. I need to just let it happen.

Sarah Burgess John Lennon famously said "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." Working hard now to enjoy life later can be a dangerous path, as often later comes too late, or sometimes not at all. So be careful young padiwon, and do your best to always enjoy the now.
I agree with you completely. Yes, we have years ahead of us. Yes, we should prepare for those coming years. But we should not spend /all/ of today preparing for tomorrow.

When my mom passed away, my sisters and I made a trip to Maine to spread her ashes. During that trip we visited all of her favorite places, restaurants and shops. The Nubble was my favorite stop. Thanks for sharing this. She loved that lighthouse.
I had to write an observation for my English class, and decided to write it on this video. Listening to the waves crash and describing what I saw was honestly so peaceful

Oh my god I live in Maine and visit the Nubble all the time! It's so beautiful during Christmas when the lighthouse and the little buildings are lit up. Sitting there on the rocks is one of my happy places.

This reminds me of what it's like to watch a crowd instead of an event. Like, you can have pictures upon pictures of something like a rocket launch. But swivel the camera around and watch the crowd instead, and suddenly the moment is much more real. We can see thousands of pictures of monuments and mountains, but the moments behind them are even more beautiful. Take pictures of a monument under restoration, capture images of people enjoying the view, and watch a world of sunlight instead of just watching the sun and sky. Beauty isn't just in its own epicenter--it's in everything around it and in everything it touches. I'm sure there's an artsy and psychological way to talk about it in terms of focal point and attention :) But I'll just drift off in these ocean waves for now.
Hank, This is a place I have visited every year since I was born. A place that has seen me through so many trying times. And today I needed this video of my favorite place and audio of the eocean more than ever. Thank you.
As stressed out as I am lately, this was acctually a much needed break for me, and a reminder to go outside when everything feels too much. Thank you Hank!

it is everything and nothing at all. Imagine sitting on those rocks one day in the future with your dog and you think to yourself im here because on a Thursday in march 2017 it relaxed me and i wanted to see it in real life.

my gram and pop always used to go to maine on vacation, so after my pop died, my family and i would take my gram to maine every couple of years. three years ago was our last time bringing her; pretty soon after that, we had to move her into a nursing home, and a few months later, she died.
my gram loved, loved, LOVED lighthouses. and nubble lighthouse was one of her very favorites. so that last trip in maine, we drove to nubble lighthouse and sat there watching the water for a while. at the time i was pretty impatient, and i kind of regret that now.
anyway, thanks for posting this. it reminds me of that trip, and my gram, and that taking some time to just breathe and watch the water is important.

I spent the entire video trying to figure out if the tide was coming in or going out. I finally decided on coming in. It was so calming to just focus on the waves though.

I put this on full screen and left click and turn on the loop function. It plays all day as my window on a wonderful sunset and the audio is really really soothing as background sounds.
This is nice background noise, and it's especially cool because the scene just gets prettier every time you click back.

I have been to Nubble so many times in my life and I have never seen the tide so low. I scared me for a moment. Other than that, this video is calming and reminds me of my childhood visiting York Beach with my family. Thank you.

Really pretty, but I think I woulda liked it better if I was there. The sound of the waves is half of it, I want to smell the water, be close to it, it's such a wonderful feeling... Would make the beauty all the more engrossing.

York Beach, Maine! This is my extended family's go-to vacation spot. Hank, did you go to Goldenrod to get some ice cream or salt water taffy? Did you walk down Long Sands Beach at low tide? Did you get your fill of chowdah?

The very spot you filmed from I climbed all over as a child.
I was here in August of 2015. I sat down and sketched the island and lighthouse from this vantage point. The water level was higher than what I see in this video, I wonder what that's about. Tides? Seeing this brings back some fond memories. Thanks for sharing, Hank!
This reminded me somewhat of the setting of "Dear Esther". I got violently sick going through that virtual story, for some reason this unsettles me. I can see why others would find this nice though :D

Ive been there! My aunts used to live in Maine and they took us here once to visit. Its a beautiful place and very somewhat nauseating if you stand too close to the ocean on the rocks.
