( I also did a rogue in Vanilla) But, as my new dwarf priest nears 60 (She is 56 at the time of this writing) I've been looking up multiple guides just to refresh my memory and see what people are saying these days. I think the Bartender4 addon has an option to enable mouse-over casting for abilities on your spell bar. Very nice for someone who doesn't want to spend time writing their own macros.
OMG! So I play a human priest and I was using Flash Heal often. Yeah the mana conservation struggle is real, but I felt that its speed easily off-set the mana cost. Anyways, glad I wasn't the only crazy one that thought that was a good idea. Guildies convinced me to try lower rank heals (renew, heal) to lower rank flash heal. Trying it, but with your video, I feel like I'm back to the drawing board. Thank you! Will be checking out your blog.
I did my first MC yesterday and I felt the same. We were 8 healers and if I weren't using flash heal, by the time I cast lets say heal, they would have already been healed especially since we had 3 Shamans who had constant chain heals on. If the raid are speedy, I personally think the best approach is to use flash heal.
bonus tip 1: if there is ever some downtime in the middle of a fight and you start getting mp5 ticks don't be shy to use your inner fire to keep the ticks going 2-4 times more it really makes a world of diffrence Bonus tip 2: make a macro for renew that lets your warlocks know they have been renewed they will love you for it and you can use it as soon as they start getting low on mana even if they are sitting on full hp still :D
I want to just put this out there also.. I have never played a healing priest before so everyone who sits here and say "everyone should know how to do this" is forgetting some people are trying new things.... Not everyone has played every class specially in a classic wow setting. Thanks for the tips I will put them to good use =)
Renew is so good with it benefiting 100% from your healing power but it’s only good situationally. Being disc I only use on mt when there’s no holy priests. I never use in bigger raids as it just gets sniped. Flash heal is the better option imo
PW:S Is definitely way more beneficial than people give credit. Predictive damage, LOTS of fights in BWL, Lab packs, Trash in AQ. It should definitely be used way more often than most people say.

tip #5: Keep Fade Handy. YES! The 5 piece T2 set bonus has an "Auto Fade" like feature that is REALLY helpful for groups that have a tank that has trouble grabbing aggro. it procs ALOT with crappy or struggling tanks and is well worth dropping some spell power for a dungeon pug group.
@@SilviteSoltis robes, pants and boots of T2 gear are not needed. boots of pure thought, empowered leggings and truefaith vestments are what i use. also i swap out to the zandalar belt and shoulders for raids, dropping to a 3 piece for T2.

Definitely need a new robe though, since i'm too cheap to craft Truefaith and am still rocking the ones from Strat UD. Problem there is that my guild has yet to see even 1 priest robe drop from nef (on farm for 3 months already) and i'm pretty low on the loot ladder atm XD pretty much banking on the aq40 robes at this point.

Yeah that was what WoWhead had up and I was quite conflicted about taking it personally. Glad I did though. Having the extra damage is awesome for trash, dungeons, and soloing as a healer. Basically trade reduced threat for it too, so, meh. ;)
I've also ran with a deep disc talent build, and offer top charts with other healing classes with a low Overheal comparatively. I've been playing a Discipline priest since 2004. Going disc doesn't mean you are sacrificing your ability to be a "strong healer", there is no reason why you can't keep up with other healing classes and Holy priests. Just gotta find your place.
@@hobbitpsi In 60 you're always going to be in two pools either way. If you're deep holy you usually still be 21 in Disc for Divine Spirit. If you're deep disc you still put like 19 into holy.
In general, +healing is the most important stat for healers in Classic, so losing ~40 healing in that swap was a big cut to my spells' potency. Robes of the Exalted is widely considered the best healing chest up til AQ40 for most classes (minus tailors). That said, I still swapped for the other stats and looks back then ;)

Basically start casting a heal before the tank takes damage, then if they don't take any damage, cancel the cast by moving, jumping (if you're bad like me), or a stopcasting macro.
I left a remark at another guys video but I'm going to ask here too. As a new priest I have been following the advice I see in video's like this: spell ranks, mouseover macro's(love them) but in a raid I am dead last in healing. I notice over and over again that the other priests, including the #1 healing priest, all use exclusively Flash Heal and Renew. That's it. How do they not run out of mana? How can they do this thing that every video I see says not to do and they do it successfully? What am I doing wrong?
Hi. It might have to do with your gear and who you're healing. Gear-wise, you need quite a bit to spam heals without going oom. Do you have the addon HealCommsClassic? It shows who is being targetted for a heal, so you don't end up wasting mana on someone who's about to get healed anyway. Finally, do you use pw:s at all? The damage prevented can really help tank survival, though it reduces their threat gen a bit. Check with your healing team about who is using it and when.

I am not brought into BWL because we have so many priests and all much better geared than me and they get weekly gear upgrades. I really do wonder why they recruited me at all when I all I do is sit on the bench and only get to MC or Ony when they bring in their alts. So frustrating to want to play a character and can't! Ah well, maybe someday :)
@@user-wn5ld9ny1i Sounds like you need to find a guild that is in greater need of priests, or try to get pulled into the MC runs by talking to the ones in charge of setting those up. There's also a ton of ZG pugs going on most servers where you can grab some of the best items available outside of BWL (if your guild doesn't take you to those). Either way though, I'd suggest shopping around. ;) Good luck out there!
They're most likely using differing ranks of flash heal. Depending on the raid/boss I use rank 1 flash heal for long drawn out fights that dont do insane damage consecutively and rank 4 for when abit more damage is coming in and rank 7 as an emergency, but this does depend on healing power and overall mana. Recommend at least 450 healing power and 5900 mana
What do your healing comps look like? Horde or ally? Sounds like ur priests are just sniping for heals. Do you guys struggle in bwl? How much are they overhealing? Parses don't always tell the full story. In my raids spamming rank 2 heal (I am pretty geared) has always performed better in the longer fights of bwl. I spam flash in mc because you don't really need to worry about conserving Mana.
Interesting. I kind of assumed that most guilds have at least one spriest at this point for the shadow weaving buff, but definitely a cool idea for anyone in a guild without one.
@@SilviteSoltis funnily enough, the highest ranked guilds dont take any spriest, since a healer can just take shadow weaving and just be slightly less effective heals.

I have a question! i never play with Macros ever! Even back in Vanilla days, I copied and pasted your PI macro and i got a warning that i'd could get banned or something. so i kinda went with it and then my game crash.. I'm really worried now...

You never throw away different ranks. You can't delete lower ranks you just select different ones. HIgh rank heals are good for early on when you're fresh but you start getting over 700 in bonus heals you down ranking big time. No reason to have say 1100 in bonus heals and cast high rank heals. You're overhealing and wasting mana
just had one of the most humiliating times gaming ever - I just wanted to casually play some wow, played some on duskhaven, queue for dungeon, and apparently i'm so bad everyone just called me names... i know its just a game and ignore them but it sucked
Because most sites would remove Tier 1 priest robes and say use the pre bis ones for more raw healing but the stats suck. Truefaith Vestments gives you 73 heals and 6 mana per 5 second but 0 spirit or intellect compared to high stats of tier 1 robes which means bigger pool of mana and more heals to cast. Once you get tier 2 robes it voids it all out because now you got good heals and high stats

I presume you mean inner focus, not inner fire, as the latter will consume mana and get you out of the OOC regen.

Yeah i'm hoping to get gloves at some point for that auto-fade. Robes and pants are basically out of my reach at this point though XD

Had a tank in SFK tell me to never use powerword shield on the tank. I definitely agree people make things harder than it should be.

I've always had respect for healers but after watching this video, it just reinforced it. Seems very stressful.
Honestly when looking at the specs I prefer Disc healing over Holy. Like having more utility in parties as opposed to being just a raw healer.

I would say use Vuhdo as u will know who is healing who and for how much and who has threat. So will not over heal targets.
you should also talk about PI/shadow weaving! it provides much more utility and dmg for warlocks, adding some variety to the game. :)

why use downgrade the Heal when you could use Lesser Heal?
Because the healing spell power you have from gear will apply to the lower rank spell, making it very mana efficient
Hmm... There is no need to downrank Greater Heal? Like Rank1 ?

Definitely possible. You have to grind a lot with a set team from what I understand though.
I'm not super experienced with PVP though.
