I learned forever ago just by jamming with people that were way better than me and sounding terrible for a while. I got to the point I could pick up and play with strangers and get compliments I didnt understand at the time. "I love how you play behind the beat" I had to look that one up when I got home. I am getting back into it after a several year break and your videos are very to the point and informative. Thank you. Now realizing ghost notes on bass also comes naturally to me... maybe just from playing with a drummer that drenches things in ghost notes at times. There are so many gaps in what I can do. At one point I could slap decently but I cant remember how I muted before. I can kinda melodically solo over something around the 12th fret on a good day but its not great... I have a drummer buddy that wants to jam with people but hes way too good lol.
Rocco Prestia was truly the master of ghost notes!: I am certain Jaco built upon the foundation that Rocco grooved on for ages! This is a great lesson for those who are just getting into bass! Well done!
I´m doing your beginner course and I must say you're such a great teacher and communicator. The way you explain makes it look easy even when it's not. This extra videos are an excellent complement to the course. Thank you!
Thank you SO much for patiently explaining and not skipping any steps for those of us who have never done this before and are trying to learn correctly! I’m spending a LOT of time just practicing a few moments at a time of this tutorial. This is EXCELLENT, high content teaching. I appreciate your teaching style so much.🥇💐
Great video as always. Your tone is also fantastic. May I ask if the recordings are directly from the bass, or do you use something in-between (for tone I mean :) ). Cheers!
Thanks Dan!! it’s like you are a mind reader!! This is exactly what I have been wanting to work on lately, and I have been a subscriber for a while now! Love your videos!! -Chip in Tacoma, Washington
Thanks again Dan, truely great stuff. Currently waiting for USD/JPY to be somewhat reasonable so I can sign up to your basic bass lessons, it's time for me to progress.
Just took advantage of your recent Summer special discount and signed up for the beginner to bassist course, the discount made all the difference, thanks!
I'm a recovering ghost note addict. There's something to be said for playing nothing but clear, distinct, unambiguous notes. I still use them, just less often and more deliberately.
Play a lot! I’ve been playing a lot of bass over the last 32 years so my advice is to be prepared to put in the time, work hard, take it seriously, learn your craft, and play a lot. Don’t aim to play like me. Find your own voice. How? Play a lot…You will find many lessons on my channel and website.

Dan Hawkins was born to be a great teacher. I'm glad he chose bass at some point because I wouldn't know half of what I know now.

I have waited forever for this video
Good lesson. Practiced these ghost notes. Your method of playing certainly work really good. Thanks again Dan for showing me the way.😊
Glad it was helpful!
This was a very timely video. I'm learning the Sultans of Swing, and this is my first song with really noticeable ghost notes.
Awesome lesson, Dan.
🙏
Love from Durban, South Africa🌍Amazing content🎉
Thanks!
Awesome and, thanks for the class!
This is a lesson I needed badly. For some reason, I have struggled so hard with ghost notes. No clue why.
They’re not easy that’s for sure. It takes time to get it down.
I love your content Dan! Keep it up!!!
THANK FOR THE VIDEO.
Oh this is really nice Motivation again. Sounds like it should. I love your style and approach as a teacher 👌

@@OnlineBassCourses not sure… 🧐

I love ghost notes. I just discovered that raking ghost note triplet thing, and I use it way too often
Thank you so much.

I’ve been wanting some practical exercises on this, love this Dan, thanks plus how do you get your recording tone , it’s not just bass and amp is it

That's called taste (and wisdom). 👊
Awesome thanks!
That's what I need to work on. Ghost notes when I'm plucking with fingers
I'm a beginner and don't just know what to do to play like you do one day !!
Please I need your help 🙏

@@OnlineBassCourses That's encouraging! Thanks 🙏
Hi Dan. Looks like you have rounds on your MM. Is that correct?
Yes. Elites Players 45-105.
See tryna play with 3 fingers and hard attack for me anyway doing the odd ghost note then going to another string is difficult
Great, but cant wait for some good lesson on harmonics
Coming soon!
