I literally disassembled one of these tonight to start a paint job, and was scratching my head on the operation and function of the internals. A truly fantastic video. Thank you so much for the guide.
Thank you for this video, I finally fixed my slingfire that has been broken for years now and I didn’t know why. I’m so happy to finally be able to use it like I used to, definitely one of my favorite blasters.
I rescued one from goodwill outlet, took it apart, gave every part a good rinse, rubbed it down with some lithium grease and reassembled but the clutch was janky so it would slip every single time. So i sanded the internals and superglued the clutch together and now it works!
Hey Captain....there's an arrow on the bolt sled as well as that gear to help with alignment. You can even see it in your still image.....it's directly above the orange gear.
Aha! I knew there had to be a way to align them for the people assembling them. I should have looked closer. Might jabe to do an addendum after some more research.
Excellent video! Enjoyed every second, explained almost every single fringe case I dealt with and all errors I had reassembling the blaster I later realized were simply from not watching or listening close enough. Excellent, truly excellent. I really appreciate your content! It seriously means a ton to have someone who clearly and without judgement explains toys, both as a calming background video and as a piece of instruction. This is IMMENSELY helped me in my quest to create the perfect Courier Six cosplay (from F:NV) and no Courier cosplay is complete without a badass, fully painted slingfire. Thank you so much! Also, I'd just like to brag, I got the gears right first try >:D
I've tinkered and upgraded the bolt sled and gears in two different slingfires and I put the gears back in the reverse order from you did here and I've never encountered the issue that you had with incomplete priming. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but food for thought I suppose. Loved seeing the complete breakdown and explanation of this blaster as it's given me a headache before when I upgraded the bolt sled. Thanks Cap'n!
Well if you wanted to take the stock off, it could be used as a master-key. However, the lever action could prevent proper functioning on different blasters.
Thank you! I took mine apart because the lever action wasn't working. I had it in a pile of parts before I realized I should have taken pictures. You are awesome, thank you for this video!
Thank you Captain X. Great tutorial. Butterflied my Slingfire, sanded, repainted and placed everything back in. Now, for some reason, it's not closing. Not to worry, I'll work out out. Awesome video! Peace from Perth Western Australia.
Thanks for the in depth video! My slingfire has been broken for years now where the bolt wouldn't quite close all the way to fully open the dart tooth so after every time I primed it I had to manually push the bolt forward to fire. Your gear alignment picture finally helped my fix it.
It seems like you really are enjoying these videos. Seems to fit with you love of teaching and education of people. Can’t wait to see the next video in the series. Keep up the good work Bangarang
OK OK, I know im supposed to watch the entire video before commenting but, Before I even got 2 min in, "Theres a lock release button on there! Why did I not know this!" Had to go get my slingfire to see for myself. Thanks Capt. I'm Always learning new things from your videos.
Okay man props! I had no idea the gear teeth would not work if they weren't put in just right. I've had the same slingfire since 2015 to maybe 2016 and it feels good to finally get it going again. Just goes to show that sometimes a video can help people fix stuff 1 year later!
Thank you so much I liked and subbed. But I have a question. I took apart my sling fire bc a bullet got jammed and I opened to remove it. But I made some modifications to it. To make matters short it doesn't lock. My gun now won't cock plz help me Edit: OMG THANK YOU MY GUN NOW SHOOTS. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH
...can't really help you without knowing what mods you made. But the answer will likely be something along the lines of "watch this video and figure out what the issue is." ;)
I have a scravenger that I took apart to lube and enforce the O ring. I couldn’t put back together due to a time crunch but thanks to this vid I will apply the knowledge from this Study. Thanks Cap’n!!
When take apart a blaster with Gears I try to mark the alignment with a Sharpie across the two gears. That way (hopefully) when the Sharpie is aligned the gears are aligned. Thats the plan Anyway...
Hmm wonder if the issue is with the spring of the trigger lock on your blaster Captain and that is why it isn't working correctly. Spring seemed a bit bent to me for starters.
I really want a Slingfire due to my love and use of real-steel lever action rifles. Once I find one to thrift, I'll be using this video to repair it like I did with your Retaliator teardown!
Man my gun just like this stopped working and just a little bit ago I decided to see what was wrong in it and after a desembled it a whole bunch of pieces flew everywhere. Me of course, me being me, i did not know where they went and and was bummed. But thankfully i found this video and now it is assembled just how you did it. But my trigger does not like to smoothly go through and sometimes, it gets jammed 🤷♂️
Great video, confrimed everything I had gleaned from hours and hours of taking the thing apart and putting it back together again. Just wish this had been out before I took mine apart and put it back together a million times. A tip from the second one i took apart, put some sharpie on the gears so you can see where they line up before you take them out, (if thats not the problem with the blaster).
...how do I not have a video on this yet? I will get one made in the near future. There are several ways but they all involve tools that I don't know if you have. You need something like a metal punch or a nail to drive the pin out with, a hammer, and something to brace the sled against without obstructing the pin. Then you pound it out. Alter native you can force it out with a vise or large pliers.
Thank you so much!!! I took my sling fire apart a couple months ago, and can’t get it apart, which is bad because it holds a lot of nostalgic value. The only other problem I have is I lost the catch, but I can always get a new one
I personally removed both magazine and priming lock so can remove the magazine without having to reprime and clear out jams without having to shoot first.
Thanks so much for this very thorough guide! I've always wanted to totally rebuild my Slingfire, but as you know, it can cost some serious $$$ to do it properly.
Yes it does...I recently got the metal gears and metal bolt sled. Ended up not using the bolt sled as it did not fit properly (bit annoyed about that). I also have the half dart kit and a long barrel (but I didn't have to pay for those). I am very pleased with it...but it was not cheap. There are better blasters for much less...
I took mine apart but there's still several teething issues. When priming it doesn't always lock in battery. It starts to prime but the gear slips early and it doesn't even half cock.
If the gears are slipping you either have a broken tooth, or might be missing the orange ring on the middle tooth, or the shell that holds the pins for the gears is cracked.
I'm having a strange issue...The bolt sled jumps forward just a bit at the very end of the priming stroke (just before the lever is all the way back, ready to fire). It prevents the mag release function properly among other issues. I'm starting to think I'm running the lever forward too hard/far and the slip is activating. But unless I push it all the way forward I can't release the mag. I'll remove the mag release lock and back off the lever a bit and see how it goes...
Wanted to write a quick comment about some differences in my slingfire. I have a european one, which might change it a bit. It's mostly in the gears It's different. First off on the lever-gear, mine has a second little loop on it, the one you see interacting with the post that you use to align the gears. Speaking of that post, It's plastic in the european one. They all are, in fact. The second gray gear, which doesn't actually have the little orange cylinder, that has a plastic post, and the orange gear, which also has a plastic post. I don't know if the second loop on the lever is meant to make it easier to align, but It's worth pointing out.
I did this so i could fix an issue where at the end of the priming action the lever would get stuck and the blaster would lock up and i would have to try to make the smallest movement possible to get it to work but all it did was tell me my gun was very dirty which helped because i cleaned it but i still cant figure out why this is Edit: It worked i just miss aligned the gears in the lever action thanks for the guide
I miss the sling fire so much, oh my lord it was fun. I dry fired it like 400 times for every like loaded shot, I'd just sit at my desk dry firing all day. Sadly I had to give it away because the mechanism to seat the dart broke off, it only worked if you like primed it upside down.
I just got a Slingfire with a broken breech and boltsled. I found the Worker metal boltsled replacement at Out of Darts, but was unable to locate a replacement breech. Does anybody know if an aftermarket Retaliator breech will fit? Also, are there any alternatives to the Worker metal boltsled?
@@CaptainXavierI think maybe I didn't align those little pieces on the bolt sled correctly, if it still doesn't work after I double check i shall be back

@@CaptainXavier that helped and it seemed to work ok. but after a while it will start to jam and i have to open the orange lid and then give the orange part inside a small push forward into place before it will fire. i must have taken it apart 100 times lol.
I've got it exactly as in the other video. If I move it one tooth either way it doesn't work at all. It seems to work for a while then starts jamming up. I think it might just be old and there's slack in the components. It was working better when I didn't have all the screws in lol.

A silly thing to do is to take the stock off and use it with out it. It works with out it.
