    Goldfish
    Downsides:
    - Abysmal HP
    - Goes splat on rocks
    - Cannot survive if it doesn't land in the water
    - Probably won't survive even if it lands in the water from 1000 feet
    Upsides:
    - It'll be hilarious when all of that happens...

      With real life physics:
The problem with that drop is that you don't land *in*, but *on* water. Your splattered remains will then sink or float.
Then again if the goldfish is light enough you might actually land in the water.
Safest bet would be mouse for high drops. If you land on water transform after you land. (Insects are so light they will be carried for miles so you have no clue where you might end up.) Terminal velocity complicates this issue a lot as you might see. But don't transform into anything big/heavy(anything bigger then a mouse has such a bad surface to volume ration you will probably die) if you play with real life physics. In DnD physics go for highest HP always. Because that's the only metric taken into account outside of flight.
This is the reason cats can consistently jump out of the window on the second floor without getting hurt if they land correctly. The first part is said ratio, the latter is their acrobatics.

  • @EmerlyNickel

My first character is a druid tiefling named Flourish. It is overwhelming having so many spells. I ended up having to make cards for my favorites. Then I end up having to take an extra couple of minutes to prepare and pick which ones I'm going to use.
Also, Circle of Dreams (not in the handbook, but is an official circle) is really good if you want to be a healer druid. Balm of the Summer Court is awesome.
Flourish is still alive because she's good at running away and not jumping off cliffs.

So happy you mentioned Faerie Fire. I know a lot of new druids that completely overlook that spell and it's MASSIVELY useful in every tier. It gives everyone advantage and STOPS INVISIBILITY!!! Such a powerful and useful spell. Overall, I think the character quick builds are really starting to hit that sweet spot you guys have mentioned you're aiming for. They give good, understandable overviews of the beginning levels of the classes without getting too complicated. Good job!

      @crookedclown9499 5 років тому +1

Faerie Fire is great when used in dark places too. Especially if not everyone has Darkvision. Anything affected by Faerie fire sheds light and illuminates the area.
It pays to judge on a case by case basis on whether you think Entangle or Faerie Fire is a better use of your concentration and the enemy is more likely to fail their save.

I was heavily persuaded by my dm to make a druid after my wizard died... one word that wrecked my life: CONCENTRATION! It's easier to keep track of what's not concentration than what is because about 90% of your spells require it. Another thing that wrecked my life... casting times. About a third of druid spells take a minute or more to cast, making them useless in combat.
My point is that druids are super harder to play than most people think. And if you ever give a druid any flack without having tried to play one... go take a cliff dive!!!

Don't feel too discouraged if you're new! A friend of mine picked moon druid as her first class and she kicks ass. Without her frontlining with beast shape my party would be dead several times over, and if not for a well placed moon beam (2nd level spell, 10/10 would fry zombies again) from her we would have gotten destroyed by an ogre/orc meat grinder we got stuck in.
It is a lot of work but if you have someone more experienced helping you out it's not too overwhelming, and there are plenty of great resources online to help you keep track of your wildshapes.

I love my druid so much! A godsend tip I would add is use a D&D spell and beast app to help organize and store your spells. I personally love "5th Edition Spellbook" and "Druid Wild Shape" apps on the Android Market. The spellbook app allows you to make multiple tailored spell lists for different characters. It allows you to filter spells easily, put them into spellbooks and prepared spells list, and can add in expansion spells from other supplements like Xanathar's Guide to Everything. Druid Wild Shape app helps wrangle most creatures you'll most likely wild shape into (also, side tip, check with your DM before playing to make sure you are on the same page as to what animals you have seen that you can wild shape into). It's a little limited in filtering and moving around, but most of your beasts are there in one spot and able to get pull up stats quickly. These two apps will keep you from having to lug an entire druid book around with you on game nights.

While I don't fully disagree with the quick build thought of having the druid tank because a moon druid can be a tank, transforming into any CR 1 creature they seen off the bat, the real reason a Druid should invest into Constitution is due to the fact nearly all their spells are Concentration based.

While Keyleth wasn't my favorite character from C1, she did give us some great moments from time to time. Most of those came from being a druid and I think people should play Druids more, especially with the new subclass (well the one good one) it opens up so many ideas and the biggest thing I can add is. DO NOT feel like you need to conform to the theme of the class, come up with the flavor you want to add. The world needs less tree hugging Druids. lol Great episode Marisha. o/

Haven't read the book yet, is the good one the one with the 9th level conjure animals when you die or the other one?

Bear Grills Yeah the Cricle of the Shepherd, being a pure druid or multiclass it just great all around. All you need to keep mind of it a lot of druid spells are concentration. So know what you are preparing along side the summon spells.

Was trying to find an interesting "Summoner" class to transfer from Pathfinder to DnD 5e, and thought I wouldn't be able to find one.
Then I found Circle of Wildfire druids and they're as close to Summoners in DnD 5e that I've been able to find.

I think it would be advantageous of anyone wanting to create a Circle of the Moon Druid to watch the Force Grey episodes with Dylan Sprouse playing Tyril Tallguy, a Firbolg Druid. He absolutely knocks it out of the park with the badass beast shapes and summoning critters.

I'm starting with a Half-Gnome/Half-Elf Druid and I know I'm gonna be so overwhelmed with all the spells but I think, dnd beyond will help with that so I can track all my spells even if it doesn't include all spells. I just hope, my roommate (who is the DM) will help me with that 😅

Just starting with my first Druid. She's more a support build, able to make potions and poisons along with delicious tea. She wears her pet Belladonna nightshade plant like a flower crown and has crazy high passive perception. Perfect for maning the crows nest of our teams ship. Sometimes as an actual crow.

As a DM running a game for people who have mostly never played (and only one player out of my four is going with a class she's familiar with), Handbooker Helper has been a life saver. Especially because I'm the DM Friend, so I haven't gotten to play most of the classes myself. (One day...)

druids: nature domain clerics, except they will murder you in approximately 0.5 seconds if you so much as think about killing that squirrel-
    circles:
circle of the land: you considered playing a wizard at one point
circle of the moon: fuck yeah let's commit bear crimes
circle of the shepherd: you looked at the path of the totem warrior barbarian's abilities, looked at the spell speak with animals, and said "what if i found a way to make both of these abilities completely obsolete"
circle of dreams: taste the feywild. become the feywild.
    circle of spores: m u s h r o o m
    circle of stars: astronomy bitch
circle of wildfire: haha arson go brrr

I was just starting out as a druid, but on today's session a guy rolling monk joined us. His character is basically a straight upgrade to mine, same weapons, same stats and backstory, we even rolled the same number during ability checks and especially initiative a ton during this session. Not very happy with this turn of events.
