- In this video we head out to the range to sight in my new hunting rifle. A Tikka T3X chambered in 7mm Rem Mag topped with a Vortex Viper 4-16. Started out by grouping a couple different ammunitions at 100 yards. Then backed out to 450 yards using the ammo with the best groupings. Gun and Ammo information listed below.
Tikka T3X
-7mm Rem Mag
-24 inch barrel + break
Vortex Viper 4-16 x 44mm
-sunshade extension
Barnes VOR-TX LR 139 Grain
Remington Core-Lokt Tipped 150 Grain
Hornady Superformance 162 Grain
Just a tip, once you fire a shot, open the bolt asap and let that barrel start to cool. You're having much better results than I had with my new Tikka. It was about on par with a Mossberg Patriot
I had the best results with the 168 hybrid hunters in my t3x 7 mag. 5/8 groups @100. I was getting 1 1/4 with the 162 hornadys.
A Tikka chambered in 7 REM Mag topped with a Vortex Viper. Pretty great set up at very reasonable price. Only thing I’ll say, not a big fan of SST bullets or Core-Lokt ammo. SST I’ve used on game have just didnt preformed well and I just wouldn’t trust Remington ammo on a hunt I cared about
Check finger position on trigger. On long shots it will make a difference
I love my Tikka really want another one in 300 mag or 7mm mag
Maybe try norma bondstrike as well
I find that Tikkas aren’t really picky with any ammos
What height rings did you go with? I plan on buying the same scope for my new tikka t3x hunter
I think I have 1/2 inch ring height on there, I would go a little higher next time
Why would you go higher. Those already look too high....
What jacket are you wearing in this video?
Worth the money?
That is the Kuiu guide jacket and yes it is definitely worth the money. Its been a great cold weather/wind jacket. It will last you a life time if you take care of it.
What bi-pod do you suggest on that rifle?
I think any bipod will do on this rifle, nothing fancy is required. In the real world if I was hunting I would prefer a solid rest on my pack or across a stump. The important thing being that you are shooting level.
Are you using dovetail rings? If so what kind?
I am, I’m unsure what kind but I know they sit pretty low
Pro tip: If you're going to make content in a wind tunnel you might want to invest in equipment to reduce wind noise or dub over the portions that have excessive noise. I wear ear buds and some of the wind was crazy loud. I couldn't watch the whole thing.
👍 This video was almost a year ago, I’ve upgraded since then
No, I prefer to hear the wind, that way I know exactly what the conditions were that day.
