2024 Mathews Lift | 3D Archery Shoot
In this video we take the brand new Mathews Lift 29.5 to a 3D archery range. For this season I built some axis long range 4 millimeter arrows with AAE hunter max fletching's. I've been really happy with this setup so far and taking it to the 3D range is the best way to practice for real situations and prepare for the upcoming seasons.

Trail Camera Check 1 | 2024 Summer Scouting
Переглядів 81Місяць тому
Draw results are out and summer scouting is in full swing. Weeks ago I set out a bunch of trail cameras in preparation for a archery elk hunt I expected to draw but did not. So I headed out for a day on the mountain to check out what was on camera and prepare to scout my over the counter hunts.

Переглядів 1612 місяці тому
With spring bear and turkey seasons over, its time to gear up for summer scouting and prepare for the upcoming fall season. I'll be archery elk hunting this year and I'm kicking off preparations with getting trail cameras up early. I'll be covering old and new country to show you guys what I'm looking for when I set cameras and some of the things I've learned over the years.

After striking out on the solo backpack hunt on part one, I head back in pursuit of my first spring bear. This time I changed up tactics to covering one drainage a day from a glassing knob as the heat of summer starts to roll in.

    Felt like I was right there with you Tyler... except for my legs weren't tired! Spring bear is crazy some times. The seem to really like sunny days over 55-60 degrees then they just pop. It seems like you are in a desert for days and they all of the sudden, they are everywhere. I didn't draw this year so thanks for taking me along on the hunt! Eric

    At 600 yards, generally, that's when you have to start possibly accounting for spin drift. Thus, have to consider starting to aim slightly left, especially beyond 600 but your rifle and ammo will tell you. Bipod and rear bag are your friends for stable shooting. Awesome video. I'm about to pack up and go test some handloads right now. Just a thought, but the way scopes are designed with their springs, when dialing up or dialing right (counter clockwise), go past your intended DOPE by 3-4 clicks, then back it down where you want it. Not necessary when dialing down or left (clockwise). I've found that to be the case for Zeiss, Leica, Leupold, Vortex, Swarovski, Arken. Only scope I've found to not need to do that is Nightforce

    What kind of groups will that tikka 7 mag consistently shoot? I have a browning a-bolt 7 mag that averages 1.5 moa. Wish I could get it down to 1 moa.

    • @in_season_outdoors

      I’ve played around with a few different bullets to find the round the gun likes. At 100 right now I am sub 1 moa, and at 600 I’ve had shots that are an 2 or 3 inches apart. Overall for not have a 1 or half moa guarantee you gonna get your moneys worth out of it. I think some of the inconsistencies Ive had could be solved by getting away from the bipod or from myself. The gun is great

    • @derekmcmurry
      @derekmcmurry 4 місяці тому

      @@in_season_outdoors Bipod is your friend. I recommend sticking with it and a rear bag for practice and accuracy testing. Bipods are typically rock solid. I've been using them for 20 years. I used to do all bags but with my heart beat and breathing noticed the rifles were moving too much. And, I use a bipod when hunting. I don't use bags when trying to fill tags.

    • @derekmcmurry

      Trade your Browning in. I sold all mine and now own almost 20 Tikkas. Most of my rifles were custom built but when I finally got a tikka in my hands in 2022 for the first time, I never looked back and have sold several of my customs since the Tikkas shoot so well - especially with my handloads.

    • @elkhuntr2816
      @elkhuntr2816 3 місяці тому

      @@derekmcmurry I am debating going to 6.5 or 7 PRC from my 7 mag in an attempt to get more consistent accuracy. Is your experience with the tikka 7 rem mag that it will consistently shoot MOA with factory ammo? I know they have a MOA guarantee, but we all know those guarantees are pretty bogus. All they have to do is produce a single 3 shot group and they are good. For long range hunting 500 and beyond, ideally I need to be able to shoot 10 3 shot groups in a row (with cooling), superimpose them and have them all be within 1.0 - 1.5 MOA. That's really hard to do.

    • @derekmcmurry
      @derekmcmurry 3 місяці тому

      @@elkhuntr2816 Why not go in the middle and get a 270-7PRC? I've got all 3. My 270-7PRC shooting a 170 Berger VLD is now at 3230fps. Plug that into Berger's website calculator and you beat anything 6.5PRC but also beat a 7PRC with a 180 Berger VLD at 3000fps as well as the 195 EOL in a 7PRC at 2900fps. I'm seriously considering selling my 7PRCs and 6.5PRCs since my 270-7PRC has all of them whipped. Regarding Tikka 7RemMag, yes. I have 2 I worked up loads for with 140 TSX and 150 TTSX. Every time I shoot, I get subMOA, not MOA, but SUB and often HALF or even QUARTER. Now keep in mind that's with my handloads and ridiculous brass prep. I have a ton of Tikkas for a reason. I think the main issue I hear time and time again about 7RemMag is how inefficient it is. Frankly I love all 3 of mine. Killed my biggest mule deer, 202", at 800 yards with my 26" Krieger/Stiller 7RemMag using 168 Berger VLDs over Retumbo at 3000fps. The 7RemMag is my first cartridge I ever shot and got one hole groups, literally, caliber sized hole with 3 shots. First one was a Trued Rem700 and a select match #4 Shilen with 150 Btips. The 2nd one is that one with the Krieger. So inefficient or not, I think I'll always on 7RemMags. But the 7PRC is nice. The 6.5PRC is nice and there's Lapua brass. But my new fav is the 270-7PRC hands down
