This American railfan is very sad to hear of the 37s retirement. They are international icons of railroading. From me, these units receive a railfan's salute. Thrash on 37s, thrash on.
I live by the line and you could hear the different engine notes notes of each loco. Some were more bassy and some, like the Mary Queen of Scots, were really rough and unreliable, while the last 37558 Vulcan was quite refined. I ride the line many times a year and much prefer the older real coaches to the DMUs. I will miss them all. The new 68s are all the same. See link for details and photos of both at St Bees at the same time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Rail_Services
Had i the time and money i would have taken a trip on these. A bit reminiscent of the loco hauled days on the scottish lines. Was that bars on the windows though stopping you leaning out? 👎
Fantastic footage. The Class 37s and Mark 2s are very much missed.
Very fond memories of them going to Carlisle and hearing them in a morning

For anyone who's never travelled Barrow-in-Furness to St. Bees, it's a beautiful journey around the coast, you'll love it.
I once saw a picture in a Railways magazine of 37425 hauling a Greater Anglia Class 90. Great video!
The 558 number is a tribute to the last operational Vulcan Bomber. Its official number is 37424.
railcam put in the info box 37588 when the number was actualy 558

How the Island of Sodor would look in real life with the 37s!
