One of the key reasons that the original "Batman" TV series from the 1960's was and is so good is that the actors played their roles basically straight and the scriptwriters would add the touches of humor. For example, rarely is it mentioned that there was the humorous, absurd contrast in which at the beginning of an episode Batman and Robin after getting into the Batmobile, would buckle their seat belts thereby emphasizing safety , but then Batman would floor the accelerator of the car and zoom out of the Batcave at too fast a speed and then make a hazardous , fast left turn onto the highway behind Wayne Manor without stopping to look carefully to see if there was any oncoming traffic in either direction on the highway! And then Batman would break the motor vehicle law by driving down the middle of the road over the center yellow stripe instead of properly staying in the right lane. Then when the Batmobile would pull up outside Gotham City Police Headquarters, Batman would slam on the brakes bringing the Batmobile to a screeching halt , barely avoiding slamming into Chief O'Hara's parked police car! LOL!

I was only 10 when the show premiered and I loved it. I wasn't a Batman comic fan but the show was just epic to me. I, of course, had a huge crush on Robin. I loved the campiness of it, made even funnier by met of the actors playing it as a straight drama. When Back to the Barrage came out in the mid 90's I snapped it up. I read it from cover to cover many times. I loved the behind the scenes things and the photos were awesome. I shed a few tears when Adam West passed. Thank you for doing this video, it brought back lots of happy memories.

I still recall the very first show. At the age of 9. I was enthralled just like all my friends. Green Hornet was also captivating mostly due to Bruce Lee. We all wanted to be Kato! Looking at the original shows on youtube does not capture the excitement of what it was like to see this on tv, in 1966. Perfectly cast. All the villains were over the top. I was only a young boy, but the original cat woman got my blood pumping.

where I lived in Canada...it was first aired in the Summer of 66 during School vacation...it was advertised for weeks beforehand. On the night it was to first air, all we got was the Bat Logo and chyron saying stay tuned...it went on for two hours then was announced that it would not be shown...and I had to wait another two weeks before it finally aired...I didn't see it in colour until I watched it an Uncle's place where they had a colour set.

Adam West was Batman, he was the best Batman and the show was the best version of Batman. I like his bat car as appears to the new movie bat cars.the new movies were boring and too serious. I would like to see a series are a movie that goes back to the original formula, heroic, comedic, the car was more practical than the new versions.
I hope someone one will bring him back like he was meant to be.

My Mother was an interior designer for 40+ years in Dallas and she had attended a private party and Julie showed up
in a sheer dress with nothing on under it.. I was at the breakfast table and about 8 or 9 years old and my eldest brother was there and Mom was telling him that Catwoman had no underwear on and I mumbled of all the times im not invited to go to Ft Worth or something snidely and Mom howled laughing as did my eldest brother. Hot was an understatement at that time also as it would have been 69 or so and id have been 8 if before April.. I believe it was at Dorthy Malone's house I had visited her house weeks before that and was scratched by her Siamese cat on my thumb which cut me to the bone. The issue was how badly the cuts ITCHED after the cat got me... you cant itch or it reopens the cuts..... That all happened within weeks and I think I was a liability then and still am.. Oh to have had Julie dress my thumb and the tie in to the cat story would have been well Purrfect in my lil mind... My youngest son is 26 now soon to be 27 ill be 57 and we both went to see Adam West in Dallas my son saw the Batmobile there but I missed it.. I always missed it before in Dallas also.. I did get a parting shot of Adam and Burt though .. The Batman movie premiered in Austin Tx at Paramount theater and the Batboat was made at the glastron boat factory in Austin and likely Tested on Lake Texahoma or Travis back then a close friend of mine knew the guy who built the Batboat and took me to his house to see one in his garage he was making... he showed me the paint and I about flipped out of my socks cause no question that guy was THE GUY ..

My brother and I were glued to the TV every time a new show came on. There was a piece of land across the street from me that was all woods. So my friends and I decided to build a swinging door at the back of the woods that would hide our fort and our bikes. It came out great. I spent half my life in the woods. And after Batman was went off the air, BMX and skateboarding started up, so we'd build ramps and started jumping dug out holes... anyway this was my favorite show back when life was much simpler.

As with everything Hollywood, they take and send good and wholesome , like this original portrayal of batman, and send it down the sh@* hole of dark and disturbing.

I was 7 years old when Batman came on the air. At the time, I had no idea that it was a satire. In fact, it annoyed me that they would do the "Pow!" "Bam!" stuff during fights because it wasn't serious. hehe!
The show was a true fad (unfortunately IMO). It lost popularity just as fast as it gained it and away it went.

I got introduced to the 60's T.V. Batman show in the late 70's as a kid I loved it from the very start. A lot of eye candy, great action, vehicles, characters etc. I do like the dark batman but this colorful T.V. series can hold its own. It will run on syndication forever, timeless.

If the show could have maintained the quality of the writing that it started with in its first season-it would have lasted a lot longer--it was clear by the second season that the budget was being trimmed-and by the third season it had become a farce-even the sets were "cardboard" backdrops in some scenes---I heard a story (never sure it was true) that when the show was cancelled in March 1968-20th century Fox bulldozed the sets (including the batcave)--the urban legend was that NBC approached Greenway Productions about taking over the show and resuming the twice a week format--however when they found out the sets had been destroyed-they dropped the idea--Burt Ward (Robin) claims this is true but I don't know if this was the case or not

That story is true. NBC wanted to pick it up for a 4th season and would have restored the budget and 2 part episode format. They contacted ABC but the batcave set had already been dismantled and NBC didn't want to pay to have it rebuilt.

I dont think the show could have lasted much longer, I remember seeing it when I was very young, and people were getting very tired of that campy tone, even now when you watch it in reruns it gets on your nerves very fast.

and groom her every dark night."
Wayne : " although Julie is gone she is the one actor that will never be replaced no matter what. and on that note Julie Schwing this bat salute is for you we love and miss you a lot."
Garth : "I wonder if her costume is for sale like on E Bay. uh it's not for me it's for a... friend of mine that wants it for a costume party."

The show is campy, but it always made me smile and I don't think it hurt Batman's legacy. I think the only real issue was they never found a place for him in the Batman films. Perhaps a brief but knowing cameo.

Truly a shame they did not give them such an opportunity. But, they no doubt would have stolen the show! I don't care for the dark direction they have taken heroes, turning them into anti-hereos. The stuff they have been putting out to current is missing much needed tongue in cheek humor, play on words, intelligent writing and acting...playful theatrical performance: all of which spells FUN for people of ALL ages: with underlying morality lessons of good triumphing over evil, and justice defeats crime/crime doesn't pay. A far cry from the reality and shows of today. Take me back to a much better time, please.
