    I waited so long for the series to come out on video and couldn't believe it when it did. I bought the series on DVD and the limited blu-ray release of the series. At some point I came across the 40s serials, interesting and cool to have. I wasn't aware of it. I grew up with 66, therefore I live for it. 🦇

      Interestingly, this tv show's version of Batman is the closest to the original Batman in the comics when he first came out, with the distinction that the original Batman carried a handgun for dispatching mooks.

    Years ago my sister and I met Adam West who was giving a lecture for the students at Utah State University in Logan Utah. We sneaked behind the curtain before his lntroduction and found him lightly tapping a ball point pen on a Kettle drum that was being stored. He was a bit surprised to see us back there but was a total gentleman. He autographed an old Bat Man book that I had brought along. Great memory!

    I don't care how old I get and how many versions of Batman I get to see. The truth is whenever I hear the word Batman the only person I think about is Adam West. To me he will always be the original Batman.

      That was because Ceasar Romario was such a great actor that he set the true tone of what the Joker should be. He was able to bring the Laughter to the part. Even though he was a serious actor. And he set the bar at a very high level as far as I'm concerned.

      Oh yes! Remember Victor Bueno who played King Tut? The only thing I remember him also from was as a piano player/voice coach in the very dark movie, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.
      I always thought it was a mistake to make him King Tut because he could have been Emporer Nero instead. Playing a lyre while he plans to burn Gotham City to the ground. Same flamboyant personality and the priceless opportunity for Robin to say "Holy Roman Empire Batman".

    Don't forget Bill Finger ! He created Batman too

  • @SciFiFan2012
    @SciFiFan2012 6 років тому +15

    Kane did not create Batman in the sense that he just sat down and drew him as he is. Bill Finger redesigned Kane's designs and came up with several of the characters and places in the books.
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Finger
    Kane kept his name attached to Batman, even going so far as to his family putting the bat symbol on his gravestone! Kane was a credit stealing a**.
    There's a really good documentary about Bill Finger and what he did for the character, how he fared after comics and later life.
    Very sad how he was treated.

    • @dalethelander3781
      @dalethelander3781 6 років тому

      Hell, Bill did the modifications and pulled the fiberglass molds off of the Futura so Barris could produce more Batmobiles.
      Things like the roll bar with the Bat Parachute lever, the afterburner, the rocket tubes on the rear deck, and the chain slicer (which was never used) were installed by the special effects department at Fox.

    A couple of really interesting things they left out were: 1. ABC did not in any way feel they were "Taking a chance." on Batman. They went all in in the pre-production phase and had an intensive national advertising campaign with vague teaser pictures and the line "Batman is coming." months before the premiere. In fact, they were so confident that they would have a big hit on their hands that before the show even aired its first episode it was slated for 2-seasons (unheard of at the time, when many many shows were premiered and quickly killed off after one season if audience response wasn't as hoped.). In fact, the Batman movie was not something inspired by the success of the first season but actually part of the production plan all along. It was made and released between seasons 1 and 2. The producers also were smart enough to know that the 2-part formula where it looks like "curtains for the dynamic duo" at the end of episode one and then they escape certain death and defeat the villain in part II would wear very thin after two seasons so they played it by ear on success at the end of season two to decide if a third season would be made. They were exactly right and while there was still an appetite for batman, the 2-part was too much and they limped through season 3 with so so ratings and a greatly reduced production costs with the half-hour production change.
    2. It was the first, and I believe only, U.S. TV show to be on in 2 time slots simultaneously each week. Both episodes aired in the same week ABC didn't have a full 1-hour slot available in prime time for the show but they did have 2 1/2 hour slots open and the gimmick played perfectly.

      good info. I've begun re-watching the series and what I've noticed is that the first season is great but with the second season it went quickly downhill and I've been trying to figure out why. I think the show got the "cutes" and became somewhat self-conscious. I don't think they had a strong grasp of what made the show good. It was as if no one was doing quality control. I know Lorenzo Semple was doing script consulting but you have to wonder how much input he had. They just seemed to go for the cheap and easy laugh.

    • @kellyhiggins2867
      @kellyhiggins2867 2 роки тому +1

      @@dalethelander3781 wow, you're right, I had completely forgotten about that. But Payton place was kind of the pioneer of the primetime soap opera, to where it wasn't even on anymore when I was a kid (born in 1966) but any seemy romantic intrigue in real life was still referred to as Payton Place.

    • @kellyhiggins2867
      @kellyhiggins2867 2 роки тому +2

      @@gerrydooley951 Yes, they were so concerned with making it, the forgot to figure out why it was so popular. Adam west was really what made that show so great. He was an up and coming actor and was actually approached about replacing Sean Connery as James Bond but didn't think he could pull off the accent and he thought it was just wrong for an American to play Bond. Though over the years Bond has been played by a Scotsman (Connery), Englishman (Roger Moore), Australian (George Lazenby, for only one movie) and Irishman (Pierce Brosnan). Then Adam West did a series of funny commercials for either an aftershave or maybe a cologne where he played this suave, almost secret agent type but he played it tongue in cheek and that's why they recruited him for Batman. Ruined his career because he was so typecast after three years as the caped crusader. I was very happy that in his 80s Seth MacFarlane tapped him to play himself on Family Guy as Mayor of their town and voice work is both lucrative and very easy so Adam West lived out the remainder of his life financially comfortable and still relevant. Both Seth MacFarlane and Seth Green do that a lot in their respective shows (Family Guy and Robot Chicken) recruit people whose star has faded and give them work again.

Bill finger designed the look, invented the batmobile, Gotham city, and pretty much 99% of the world and Kane took all the credit. Sadly, Stan Lee is also allegedly guilty of similar behaviour, although I doubt the extent will be known until way after his death.

    They should have paid Sinatra a lot to play himself in an episode he could have been abducted by Penguin or just an open window cameo would have been funny and Frank would have done it.

    the outfit is dreadful looking, your telling me a major movie studio couldn't design something more sleeker or cooler than that crap, it's like a costume you would buy at the store, and i was just watching the dark knight, that cawl is not too great either, look at the first scene with batman talking to the commissioner inside the vault, the cawl is blotchy and deformed

      Would you consider doing a history of two of the greatest man on the run tv shows of the 1960s the fugitive which of course had an excellent movie version and a pretty good short lived tv remake series in 2000 and the invaders that had a bad tv movie continuation in 1995 which had no resemblance to the tv show at all
