Thank you so much for this tutorial, it is wonderfully detailed without being too long. I'm halfway through my first cover ever thanks to you posting it. Update ** I FINISHED my pillow cover and it's FANTASTIC! Thank you again, so much, I have two more to go.
Made two of these 20x20 pillows this weekend - and they turned out great! Wanted to make 4 - but the woman who cut my fabric shorted me so I am going to adapt & make 2 more 16x16. Feeling brave! Thank you!
Great tutorial, Christina. Thank you! The pillows look fabulous. With young kids, I insist that all our pillow covers be easy to remove and wash! A good tip for outdoor pillows (or pillows in a baby’s room, or kids’ playroom) is to use the nice outdoor upholstery fabric from the store. It is often fade resistant and scotch guarded. Great for outside in the sun (and easy to wipe for the kids room or baby spit up!). Thanks for the video. I love your channel!
I can’t wait till I can get my machine out and see a few after our move. My hubby and I were talking about making some new pillows for our new home just last night. It’s like you were listening to our conversation. 😆
Totally missed this party by a few years but... it is exactly what I needed. I am going to be making 3 Euro Sham Covers for my King Sized bed and wanted to put in a back, but not bottom zipper. This tutorial is perfect for that. FYI - I taper my corner in about an inch from each corner x 4.5 inches towards the center for Euro shams and that way I don't have the "dog ears" and the pillow looks more square. Sometimes - as when you are adding tassels - the "dog ears" look cute tho!🤩
Hi Christina, thank you for sharing. I’m so looking forward to doing this for Christmas season pillow covers. 😉 Love the fabric you choose to do your pillows. If all goes well for me I’ll probably do more covers. Thanks again!
This was a great tutorial The one thing I did was that after everything was stitched together I turned it over and stitched around the piping once more. This way I could see my prior stitches and make sure I was inside those stitches and closer to the piping. Worked perfect.
great diy real i liked it so much will try it too , for advice if u are sewing u can out the sewing thread in glass gar it will be more stable and u wont worry about the thread at all .. happy weekend
Thank you for the tutorial it was very informative! It was interesting to note that you had the bulk of what you were sewing in the harp of the sewing machine versus the opposite side ( to your left) which is “normal”. LOL! It works for you so that’s all that matters.😊
Well done.👍 I don't sew but I wish I did. You made this look so easy. Some tutorials I have seen are done in a way that makes the project seem a bit intimidating, but you did such a fabulous job creating this tutorial that I actually want to take sewing classes so I can make this pillow. Thank you for sharing this awesome tutorial ☺
A really great tutorial, very well explained. Maybe a suggestion with the zipper. the opening part you can sew a tack stick, the longest length on your machine along there. Dont oversew each end. When the zipper is sewn in you just pull the threads out. this will keep the edges together.
Awesome! Great tutorial on a beautiful pillow cover, I agree on sewing the corners just take your time, thank you so much for this video, I haven't sewn one in a long time, but I really like a piped pillow. Guess I will try my hand at this again, you make it look so easy, and it's not hard just takes a bit more time.
Hi Christina. Thank you so much ! I love making pillow cases and this is very easy and nice way to do so. Thank you so much for sharing your inspirations with us 💖
Christina amazing pillow tutorial! The pillow covers looks so beautiful and you did a awesome job! Thank you for sharing! Have a wonderful and blessed week.👍👏💖💖💖💖💖💖
I’m a little confused regarding the measurements. Your written instructions say 1 20x20 piece and 1 20x19. Shouldn’t it be 2 pieces that are 20x20? What is the 20x19 piece for?
hi,i really loved your tutorial.but im a little confused about the measurements, coz mine is a rectangle cushion.its 20 x 23. the zipper is 22.could u pls tell me the measurements i should cut.thank you.
Susan Velez I'm with you. I can't sew either & this tutorial makes me want to learn how to. I think it would be fun to take some sewing classes. I can just imagine how great it would feel to be able to make a pillow like these...lol.😄
So LEARN! I am now 70 and started sewing about 18 months ago, from scratch. I now make my sons and my daughter trousers, tee shirts and loads of other stuff for myself and friends. UA-cam is brilliant for learning. So, ........... GET TO IT!
@@marlabaldwin7011 Joan's has classes you should check your local store , is where I leaned the basics and then practicing I got much better , now I can make everything around my house 😊
I got a tip for sizing bias strip correctly: Make a sample of piping! First, cut a 2-3 inch piece of piping. Use it to create your sample by wrapping it with a scrap of fabric. Keeping in mind the seam width you want to sew with, measure the widith of the fabric scrap. This allows you to adapt to any size piping and any seam allowance while creating the correct width of piping. I hope this made sense! I find it hard to explain and so easy to do. Another tip I learned a while ago. If you struggle with pinning zippers in and don't want to baste, use wash away zipper tape. My experience is the zipper can be placed exactly where I want it, the tape doesn't gum the needle or add bulk and it washes or dry cleans away.
In this video, I made a cover for my 20 x 20" pillow insert, and the measurements for the fabric pieces are as follows: 20 x 20" square 20 x 19" piece 20 x 2" piece 1 1/2" x 90" strip for the piping I recommend cutting your first square to be the same size as your pillow insert, then when you add the 1/2" seams your pillow cover will be 1" smaller than your pillow insert creating a fluffy, overstuffed look.

You can place your thread cone in a coffee mug and it will contain it and keep it out of your way. The thread will come out very nicely.

Momof2 cutebois Haha, great timing! Thanks for watching. ❤️
I did your velvet one, but except I did a contrast tone on tone linen fabric on the other side, I love the zipper stop idea…great job…
LOVE!!!! I’m making memory pillows for my friend from her Dads shirts. This is perfect!!!
You make it look so easy. Well here I go! Hope they look as good as yours. Thank you.

Thanks Ann!
Thank you. I used your instructions to make a pillow.
Beautiful pillows and beautiful job on the tutorial. I shy away from piping but will definitely give it a try now.

Excellent video even if it is an older one. But I'm wondering why the fabric for the piping isnt cut on a bias?
Brilliant 🤩

Thank you so much for this! I always find zippers tricky but this really helps!
Hi Cristina, great job. Thanks for this tutorial. Have nice day.

Holly Nielson I'm glad you enjoyed it! I haven't sewn much lately either, but I love that it's easy to pick up again after a little practice. 😊
Very nice
Beautiful pillow covers and a fine tutorial, Christina. Cheers, Ardith

Hi Christina. Thank you so much ! I love making pillow cases and this is very easy and nice way to do so. Thank you so much for sharing your inspirations with us 💖
This will take a few tries but the tutorial is great, thank you!
Beautiful. Thank you. I will be trying to sew some.
Very good tutorial, thank you!
No need to pin the piping. Just sew and adjust as you go and snip the corners. You get a tighter fit this way because fabric shifts.
Very good pipein attachment
Love this video have used it over and over - I like seasonal pillows! What size pipping do you use?? 3/16 or 1/4 inch?? Thanks you
Nice, I will try it, simple and cute
That was a awesome tutorial.....so clear and understandable....I'm off to the fabric store....Thank-You!
Great tutorial, one of the best, thank you.
Awesome tutorial
Yes Yes Yes thanks for re-
doing!!!

Great tutorial....Beautiful pillows!
I will try. tfs
I liked your technique with the zipper. It seems less fussy.
Excellent video of sewing ! And I love the Fabric Choice!! TF the TiPs. 👏😆 HUGS Debbie
Thank you!! This really helps!!
Hi! Is this possible if I don’t have a zipper foot? For the piping?
Trying today! 👍
Love this great job editing and explaining... thank u for taking the time to do this.
Lin Bron Thanks for watching!

You got this!
Very beautiful!
A really wonderful video
Awesome!!!
New subbie! Just found you on FB, Christina. Great tutorial...now, if I only knew how to sew!
Preciosos .
My pillow is 12x20. Can you help me with the size fabric pieces I am to cut?
I’m a little confused regarding the measurements. Your written instructions say 1 20x20 piece and 1 20x19. Shouldn’t it be 2 pieces that are 20x20? What is the 20x19 piece for?
The difference is for the zipper panel :)
Very nice!
Your patio set however is adorable, can you say where you got it please?
I like it
hi,i really loved your tutorial.but im a little confused about the measurements, coz mine is a rectangle cushion.its 20 x 23. the zipper is 22.could u pls tell me the measurements i should cut.thank you.
very good
Great tutorial but I can't sew 😩.... That fabric is just stunning Christina 👍🏼

Susan Velez Thank you! You might be surprised how fun sewing is with a little practice! It's definitely rewarding. 😊

Great video 😍!!!
What fabric is this its beautiful
Where and what pillow inserts do you get. Also for 18" to 20" pillow, how much fabric? Can't wait to start!!
I used IKEA inserts! The measurements are all posted in the comment box below the video:
In this video, I made a cover for my 20 x 20" pillow insert, and the measurements for the fabric pieces are as follows:
20 x 20" square
20 x 19" piece
20 x 2" piece
1 1/2" x 90" strip for the piping
I recommend cutting your first square to be the same size as your pillow insert, then when you add the 1/2" seams your pillow cover will be 1" smaller than your pillow insert creating a fluffy, overstuffed look.
loved your video- where is the description box for this...

@@thediymommy thank you! can i purchase this transcription?
White size and fabric is your piping cord?
The way you put the zipper in looks great but more info about the separate piece for it.
The piece of fabric is so that the zipper is on the back bottom of the pillow instead of on one edge. It's more for looks than function.
so you do not have to cut the fabric on the bias?
I wondered the same thing.
B
What size cording do you use?
Ohh.. sorry Kellie! I'm not sure, I just had it on hand!
Piping is always cut on the bias.
do you. line the fabric?
No, I just used my printed fabric along with a pillow insert
You need to explain the boxing for the zipper way more clearly
👍👍👍😍🍀🍀🍀🍀
I tried onceand ot turned out not so good 🤭 so i”m not planning to do it again 😅
very uncleaar why that additional piece is added for zipper.
This zipper is not sewn in the piping end at all. No a good lesson
Still way too fast
Just wondering why you say to cut 2 rectangular strips for the zipper when you used only one piece in the tutorial. Did I miss something?
