It seems to me like the whole video is a representation of what we see as the “simple” times…but like most memories we gloss over what is really behind those times. We remember the fun of it all, but in reality we were mean girls at some point, loved Victoria’s Secret at some point, and thought mall culture was cool. When in reality, we hurt people’s feelings, supported businesses who made us hate our bodies, and killed small businesses. Our ‘simple times’ were terrible times for others. And in the bridal salon, the girls represent reality; the dress and the “shopping experience” doesn’t signify a good marriage. It’s just another way capitalism and social constructs weave their way into our lives under the guise of making us ‘happier’.
This is a commentary video on how the “simple” times were really not simple, we were just too young to care or realize. From the fact that people were so fatphobic, to how people were much more outwardly prejudiced. Even that tidbit with the Asian employee in the bridal shop, how the older woman just pushed the drink on her and didn’t care. I hope people realize it was all done on purpose and don’t bash on Kacey.

The interpretation can be seen differently for everyone depending what role you were in the 90's-2000s. If you attended after that decade things started to change for you. I was in middle school about mids 2000s. I was the girl who was "overweight" just because I didn't have that 90s super skinny body. So therefore I wasn't allowed yes, allowed to hangout near the popular kids. I was used by the mean girls too, I would do their hw and other stuff to get them to like me. I never went to school dances or participate in any clubs bcs it was like exclusive. If you weren't the mean girls and boys you didn't go bcs you'd feel ashamed. So yes. Sometimes I even glamorize and miss the good times I had with the few friends I did have. But in reality. It was like this. You had to have a certain look. No one would protect you. If you got a popular group mad they would wait outside to all jump you. It wasn't pretty. Gay people were seemed as weird and if you linked with them you were a weirdo too. So no one would come out.. Bullying wasn't just words it was physical abused without the protection of school, parents or public. No one saw anything wrong. Schools now have more knowledge of these issues, with gay rights and programs against bullying it's change. It wasn't really simple times. We just choose to forget that we were. Either the outcast," fat & funny " Or I'm sure a lot were mean and didn't even realize it bcs it was normal.

I don't get it.
Perhaps the melee at the end is something like this: The wedding party represents Kacey's idealized youthful vision of life and love and the masked party that comes in to destroy it is a symbolic representation the harsh realities of life and how things don't often go as we planned (ie, the fact that Kacey and her husband got divorced). Not saying it all totally adds up but that seems to me to be an ok reading of it.

Saw her VMA performance of “star crossed” and it caught my attention. But I just heard “simple times” in an ad at the end of a UA-cam video and I had NO IDEA that it was ALSO HER! But it opened up my eyes to her talent as an artist! You could here the experience that she has in “simple times” as a singer-songwriter! SHOCKED I’m just hearing of her! Love her voice as well! Had no idea she was a country artist! The way her voice has this nuance of pop with a country undertone is astounding! Haven’t heard a country artist in a LONG TIME with that PURE OVERALL GIFT! And for her to have SO MANY ACCOLADES and be so unknown is disheartening! She’s made a fan out of me for sure!

1) I never supported doing things exactly as everyone does and I could argue that I actually supported the contrary with the lady above defying how everyone else spells the word and using her own spelling instead.
2) I don’t know why communism was brought up here as it has nothing to do with the conversation (no one was forcing anyone to do anything and the definition doesn’t allude to it being the word being needed in this context) 😬.
3) I never stated that you made fun of or bashed the original comment, I was simply sharing my thoughts as to why the commenter’s comment shouldn’t have brought about so many questions as it’s something already done by my example, America.
