At point 7 you say that if it fails completely it will stop sparking the plugs in that particular cylinder. But if it completely fails would the engine be able to start at all/wouldn’t all spark plugs stop sparking? Asking as i have a 5.0 v8 mercruiser that can be difficult to start and on changing plugs noticed two of the 8 were blacker than the others and i definitely get a smell of gas when moving
When a spark plug fails in an engine, it typically only affects the cylinder it's in. In your V8 engine, if two spark plugs are fouled and blackened, it's likely that those two cylinders are misfiring. This means that those specific cylinders are not burning the fuel properly, which leads to the unburned fuel smell you're noticing. An engine can still start and run with one or more bad spark plugs, but it will run poorly and be less efficient. If the problem is severe, starting can become difficult, and the engine will exhibit symptoms such as rough idling, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption. Given your description of the symptoms and the observation of the spark plugs, it's a good idea to replace the fouled plugs and check for any underlying issues, such as a rich fuel mixture or ignition problems, that might have caused the plugs to foul in the first place.
What if my Mechanic used NEVER SEIZE on new coil packs when installed by accident instead of Dioelelectric grease, he stated it would be fine, at higher speeds, I start to get like a shutter or misfire, this same issue happened before and under warranty, I took in on Pontiac Grand am V6 3.1L and ended up being the coil packs there was 3 sets of 2 and 1 was cracked and showed to me, I thought it was the Transmission going because it did it from 45 to 65 and it feels the same, I also use Amsoil after warranty ran out but went to dealer that was 5 miles away and wanted great carfax records on it, they closed down during the COVID-19 years in 2021 which caught many off guard, then a $55 oil change went to $99 plus taxes that fast. I heard they used Synthetic Blended oil and never burned oil until started using top oil, at 1st was Valvoline synthetic oil with the top notch fram oil filter that catches microns pretty decent for price, AMSOIL Filter was $51 and then went to WIX as just as good, but I do watch ENGINE MASTERS and they tested all these but not the AMSOIL 1, best was racing Filter from the White Filter with nut on end that doesn't work and slips off and Ford Motorcraft Filter works great with Royal Purple and that is testing for microns and gallons per minute going through engine fast. If haven't seen episode, I highly recommend it as Steve the ENGINE Dino master was surprised as well but will buy WIX at its price, you can't beat them, but I still want to know about coil packs, anyone with answers, please leave some remarks about what you think, I don't want to replace a Catalytic converter as I'm not rebuilding the engine as they say it's the Factory Rings on Pistons and they only gotten worse on newer models, these can run as high of 400,000 miles with 1 timing chain done. Put Michelins on it and it's like a fast go kart in 4WD EX model and son burned off set that came with it in a year but found out that how he was driving, I showed him on my SUV how Antilock brakes worked and how fast mine was as he drove it and got 10.5 MPG when it was at easy driving could get 16 flat but mostly was 15 to 22 miles for V8 4.6L Ford in Explorer awd limited edition with just 69,000 now but had 32,500 and warranty ran out plus friend started to fix more things on it, gave me a great deal then when worth $10K, paid $4,500 then coils went and 13 months old, he gave me all recipes with it, I replaced everything he did and 1 winter it sat as though bad intake but no heat, bad water pump and never left a drop. I replaced rubber cap on intake 3 times as cracked and blew out all antifreeze, 4 gallons it takes, couldn't buy from Ford, bought at auto zone and not as good or close to factory one, alternator twice an tensioner from local and went bad again, no warranty, pulleys twice and I replaced all pulleys/idlers so all new at same time from same company which I believe was Gates recommended or Dayco, would have to look at receipts, for 4 I believe $85 for all online through Rock Auto, just watch shipping as comes from another warehouse and another $11.99 for shipping and buy local for same or 2 bucks more but cheaper still on stuff, also Summit racing has great deals as well. be safe as he didn't. Summit last knew has free shipping over $100 and get the best Rotors and pads Combo sets or buy Separately and very fast shipping over other company or pay higher prices for it and 1 day earier wasted money back then as raining out and was supposed to be 2 days earlier but hung up at location they said, with Summit, I believe it's done ASAP and picked up and not waiting for more to come in as there busy over other place and if call, can get better deals as work on sales commission so can knock 5% off if order through them as I have because I asked if work off commissions or not, just had a question before placing but saved me over $40 on order for a bunch of stuff back then. Been awhile, so don't know. If any, will get electric bike to get medicine as can't afford stuff anymore. I'll use a kids seat for 2 and put food in it. , when they came out in 2003 era, bought 1 for son and removed seat and put wagon handle over post and seat back on and pulling kids around then on 350 from Schwan went 10mph and 8 miles on a charge. Used at the campground back then
I have a Nissan Nerva Ka24de 2000 petrel RWD with the coil inside the distributor cap, I had a small misfire when the car warmed up and when i pulled the number one cylinder sparkplug out, the plug had a wet residue build-up on the sparkplug thread, when I cleaned the corrosion from the pins under the cup and the green corrosion on the coil, The misfire went away and no more residue after a cupel week of driving on the number one plug thread, which means the cylinder combustion is firing correctly again, but this problem keeps on coming back every cupel of months.. I have new Leeds, new sparkplugs and a new cap and new PVC valve.. Could It be a faulty coil be causing this residue build up on the sparkplug thread..? Ps, The valve cover gasket is good no leaks, compression rings is good and valve seals are good, no burring oil or smoke out of the exhaust..
100% spot on!
Is there a way of knowing if it is a spark plug misfire vs an ignition coil misfire?
Love your videos - short, and to the point!! Thanks!!!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
What component on the coil wears out and how? What should the voltage be going into the spark plug of an average 4 cylinder car?
Thank you for knowledge this ❤
My pleasure 😊Glad this was helpful. Thanks for leaving a comment!

@@HonestMechanicChannelthats great, thank you. Ive got new plugs, leads, distributor cap and coil to fit. Thanks again 👍

My car has rough idle and when i start to drive it jerks for max 1km then when it warms up it runs normal bad ignition coils?

What if I pulled out the number 4 coil and it has green slime at the bottom of it
Thanks
