Making my first sword has been quite a journey! So many lessons learned, so many new bigger tools I want to make, I suspect it's a never ending rabbit hole! And I can't wait to jump in deeper.
This sword is made of 1070 high carbon steel (aka c70) with cast brass guard and pommel and iroko wood handle with brass and copper wire inlays.
Needless to say the most challenging part has been the heat treatment, being used to heat steel with my temperature controlled oven these days, going back to coke forge it's been rough. The main problem is the heat being too high and too localized, so yes, I'll make a long propane forge sometime soon!
Making the cast brass guard and pommel on the other hand has been very straight forward starting from a 3D printed pattern.
For the handle I really wanted to try again wire inlay like I did on the quillon dagger to put into practice what I learned last time. It came out better, the wires are tighter and the grooves more consistent, but still far away from being perfect. Needles files is probably the way to go instead of dremel tools.
Finally the resin "gems" are not the best, they could look more interesting and the way the two on the blade are set could be better. I had to make those work to stick to the reference.
Overall very happy with the final product and I can't wait to try my hands at making swords again!

You, a normal person: wow, this guy is really talented.
Me, a guy who makes knives in his spare time, watching him grind a perfectly straight fuller freehand on a 6-inch contact wheel: WOW, this guy is unbelievably talented!
Don't worry, I've seen enough of these done to be blown away by that too lol. I thought for sure it was going to look sloppy. I thought wrong.

I think you really should make more of giant/oversized weapons turn into a more functional size/weight weapons. That would be a pretty cool series imo

Awesome craftsmanship! Now all you need is a shield to go with it. ;)
How much fun!...I haven't sand cast since high school...I wanted to make a potter's wheel and the art teacher let me borrow the aluminum head to use as a mold to sand cast my own...great times!
Você poderia nos ensinar esse processo de derretimento do aço e modelagem de formas? Achei muito interessante.
Você é muito talentoso!
Que Deus continue lhe abençoando!

How does it feels to be so gifted? 🧡
This is cool, good luck you, thank you for video 👍🏿
Cool knife man.
Spectacular Sword !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ciao!
I’d love to see you make a weapon from World of Warcraft. There are so many beautiful, and recognizable swords, hammers, axes, and blades, in the game!
Frostmourne has been a dream project for the longest time. Huge Warcraft fan here!
Nice work 👍
Great piece
