Maybe this wouldn’t work, but could you use a soldering iron to try and melt the little metal bits you use to connect the layers? It might give more control than the blowtorch
The tin/lead solder used with soldering irons melts between 360-420 degrees F, while the silver solder he used melts at 1200 to 1400 degrees F, which is why a torch is required.
