Years ago I saw guys doing this on the crowded streets of midtown Manhattan during a Brazil Day festival - I seriously thought fights were breaking out...

The gymnastics in capoeira are called "flourishes" in English, but "floreios" in Brazil. They include things like head spins, hopping handstands, back handspring saltos, and cartwheels without any hands on the ground (or "au sem mao").
The hopping handstand in place is called "banana tree", or "bananeira".
My fifth grade English teacher did this for 15 years and he always did moves around the classroom

I love Capoeira and I am currently studying and practising this at home, but the problem is that there is not enough space to do all these awesome flips.
You don't need it. Sometimes it is good to have a small space to help with the refinement of moves and control.

Looks absolutely beautiful. Must've taken a lot of effort to learn, all those turns and spins look very complex.
Most of the moves are trash compared to other fighting styles, I know this from experience because I use Muay Thai and never lost to a capoeira, but some of the moves are actually good
@@celenial6009 In Brazil they use capoeira as a form of leisure, not always as a fighting style or self-defense. Usually when capoeira is used for fights it is used together with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
@@celenial6009 Because it's not a super technical martial art. It establishes a lot of basics like how to kick with power and momentum. In a real fight it wouldn't be so flourish-y. The reason it's like this is because in the 16th century, slaves were trying to learn how to fight with it looking like they were practicing martial arts. There's a lot of history and culture behind the style and in the manner displayed in the video is more about the art
Who else is here because of Dustin Hoffman from "Meet the Fockers"? I know what some of you are thinking but it's not the weirdest place to get a glimpse of a Martial Art. Still though, when I heard that there was a thing such as "Dance Fighting", it was honestly the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard. Seriously, this puts the Art in its' designation as a MARTIAL Art. I hope to learn more of it someday.

2:22 mark - That was a spectacular "folha seca" backflip (dry leaf) in the air!!!
In that folha seca, he does a sort of skewed angle like he would do that "parafuso" or screw jump, so I would call this a "folha seca parafuso". This capoeira move is definitely not for "iniciantes" (or "beginners'").
It's professional wrestling! The dance is the wax on / wax off training that builds the muscle memory for maneuvers which could be used to great strength in battle when applied with pressure

In Gaelic Football, it’s describe as having a ball resembling a volleyball 🏐 , the impact of rugby 🏉, the speed of badminton 🏸, scoring of basketball 🏀, and the suspense of soccer ⚽️.

How is capoeria going to deal against krav maga or BJJ?
I don’t think it’s really meant as a true fighting style, some of the movements and techniques could be helpful, but O doubt they’d be doing all the dancing and stuff if they were on a real fight. That being said, I still think Krav Maga would be better in a fight, although Capoeira is a really pretty thing.
We don't try to deal with anybody. We just have fun with capoeira that no other martial art offers. Capoeira is, by far, the most fun and exciting martial art! Everybody who has done capoeira and other martial arts will say the same thing.

Capoeira emerged in BRASIL as a form of resistance from slaves brought from Africa in colonial times. In addition to being used for physical defense, capoeira was a way to safeguard the identity of African slaves. Mainly because it was consolidated in Quilombo dos Palmares (Brazil)
Well; i think its from both countries. Slaves from Angola developed the art in Brazil, and in Brazil it became consolidated.

It looks amazing martial art cuz of its fancy moves but almost emphasis is on kicking high that's why it cant be useful in real time. Imagine if your opponent successfully grabs your leg then he won't forget to drag you & you'll be totally *ucked!
It can be useful, and I invite you to look up proper capoeira championships and full contact competitions, to see what a proper, full power kick can do when the restriction of not giving your partner/opponent a concussion and broken teeth is taken away.
