Dinky toys were really, really well made. That quality does not exist anymore...
A lot of toy Eagles need restoration, and this is one of them.
Darn, I had that one. Now I'm waxing nostalgic. I had the water pistols too.
I had this toy as a kid and traded it to a friend when I got tired of it. I wish I still had it!
wow this brings me back , had the white one of these as a kid .
Me too!
me three
Don't you miss how toys used to be made. I remember metal toys throwing them about hitting them against walls leaving them in mud come back days later and playing with them all again. If you did that with toys now they just break.
Cj Hartwell I sure do. I think that is why I have stopped buying most of the modern toys. They are not really toys anymore!
This reminds me how I repainted mine as a kid with Tipp-Ex to make it white!
Fantastic post. Shared it on my Space: 1999 Merchandise FB page. Can't wait to see the second vid.
Gordon Moriguchi Thanks :D I am just working on the second video now, will be up this week. What's thats the name of you FB page? Feel free to post on my FB page, link is on the banner.
Great vid. One tip. If like on one of mine the part that holds the engines has cracked or been damaged you can drill out the rivet under the nose and swap ends over to hide the damage. Re-attach the engines to the nose part. There will be a bit of exfoliation corrosion inside the nose area as it was unpainted but that can be cleaned off then polish the area up with glass paper then prime it.
Oh and the white eagle transporter was released with the white pod. Not many were released according to a guy who I spoke with who worked as a sales rep for Dinky. I was lucky enough to get one as a child and I still have it. I have a couple of the green ones to restore too.
by the way there is a rivit holding together the front cabin as well, you may want to take that apart and clean the soda out before it eats the metal from the inside out.
Awesome, I think one stripped and then just spray painted gray, so it looks a little pewter could be fabulous. Looking forward to part 2 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you for your videos love them!!!!!
I just LOVE watching your vids; they're so FASCINATING! (I haven't seen Dinky toys in a skunk's age!)
Just watched all three parts of your video ! Good work can you please repair an cargo one to go with it ??
Lovely! I've been looking for some Dinky models, particularly the Thunderbirds merchandise.
Great job with this! I wasn't fond of the green either.
Corgi Classics make Thunderbirds models as well as James Bond cars. I've ordered some from the website.
so pleased that you did it in it's proper colours. I wonder why Gerry Anderson Dinky toys cam in the wrong colours?
That always annoyed me too. Thunderbird 2 being made in blue, instead of green was a baffling choice.
Same same ufo mobiles.. someone at dinky was bonkers
The Dinky Eagle always sat too low for my liking. Bending the spring steel strips that hold the legs a small amount, improved it's stance immeasurably.
I have done 2 of these now. I found it very difficult to drill out the back rivet (by the engines) because it is pointed, and the bit just slipped around. The second one I simply used a pointed flat file that reached between the nozzles, and in about 3 minutes, the rivet was gone and the nozzle section simply popped off...no muss, no fuss. I highly recommend this method.
Alan's crashed Eagle One again....
I have restored several of these too.
It seems to depend on the paint. Castic soda worked really well on the eagle but didn't work at all on a corgi Buck Rogers starfighter.
Cracking restoration by the way. I have several unrestored Eagles that you have inspired me to look at again. The two restored ones I have I did in 2001, so I may re look at them too. I also have a SHADO ground unit that needs restoration, and being Dinky a very easy job to do. Also when I restored the Eagles I found an online company that sold die cast replacement parts - so I purchased those and replaced the retro rockets and broken engine sections and landing legs with those. I never thought to ad decals - so if I re restore them I will do that too. Thanks for that. Brilliant videos and I have subscribed to watch the rest of your videos later.
Thanks for the nice comments. I did look at some of the diecast repro parts, but then decided to stick with the plastic bits so it still has some of the original charm of the toy. I think the decals are what really finish the ship off.
i had one of theses as a kid mine was white tho
I have my grandmother's pre production model of this. she's dead now...
my Eagle has a date of Jan-Aug 1972, which is what the pre production era was.
Sounds like you have some cool pieces. Very lucky. What did your grandmother do?
@@toypolloi She was the main builder of the toys, she started working there in 1955. My uncle was the main person to get pre production models from her, but my Eagle survived. Most of the pre production models she made are deep underground due to my uncle putting them in the ground.
I found using Nitromors a lot easier for paint removal.
I can confirm those caustic burns are bad.......really bad. I've had my scars from caustic use now for 40yrs.
Have you ever tried or thought of using a small sandblaster versus using the solution? You did a fantastic job but if the stuff is that dangerous maybe need a different method?
+Nativtexan2 I try to make my videos so that anyone can do them with bits people will have easy access to. Not sure many would have access to a sandblaster. I'm sure it would do a good job if you had one. You can also use nitromors to remove the paint. Cheers
Anyone knows the ref. for the green and blue paint for the restoration of these vehicles ???
Hi, Have you made a landing pad for an Eagle, i want to make one.
Congratulations indeed a good job! I would like to know Where can I order spare parts for this ship, I also have one and I would like to restore it but I don't know where to buy the spare parts. Thank you
Thanks. There are a few sellers of replacement parts on ebay. cheers
Great video.....just wondering if you sell the decals?
+man7e You can buy the PDF from my website and print them yourself. Follow the links from my channel. Cheers
can you still pick the metal eagles up
Yes. They are easy to find in all conditions. There are always plenty listed on ebay.
Why did they release them in the green colour?
I mention this in my video. Dinky didn't think kids would buy and all white toy. crazy.
And a blue thunderbird 2 lol
Because it was viewed as a toy for kids and kids always want some 'exciting' .... Yes British management in the 70's has a lot to answer for 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Have you got a mid section spare
No. I don't seem to find these often at a good price anymore.
I must confess . I've never seen Space 1999 . :( Have you ever seen Galaxy Of a Terror ?
tee bizz I haven't, I will add that to my list of things to watch. Space 1999 is pretty cool. And has great set and ship designs.
