    I use to work for a company that makes the PVC sheet. Those 4x8 sheets cost less than $10 to make. You can also just use a utility knife to cut your sheet, score it and snap it just like plexiglass

    We make and use same similar style along with the FB40, they work awesome. Just a safety note for next one you build- take the shelf pieces and stack them on top another after you routered for the heat take, clamp them together and router that side out while you are already there, less hazardous as to trying to use the straight blade 👍

    This helped out very much, thank you.
    Although I would not be cutting or routing this material outside. I would advise doing this in a garage, barn, or workshop for easy clean up.

    You could plow out the heat tape spot with a table saw . The black untreated screws are not moisture resistant and will snap after some time you should use the coated screws.

    Nice job on the racks, definitely would like to see how you run the heat tape and thermostat. Never used heat tape before but I will hopefully have my first clutch next year and want to build a hatchling rack.

    I built a rack in this same fashion. I’m using a herpstat 2. I’m having trouble getting all five shelves at a consistent temp. Should my probe be towards the end of the heat tape?

      These were actually cheaper to ship than 10 ars tubs. I got a quote from both and was shocked that FB was cheaper

    Good vídeo. It is nice to watch your videos because you are a handy woman. Eheheheh. You can use the router to create the space for the heat tape to pass from One level to other. You can use one shelve as a guide to the router. ;)

      I typically use a straight edge when i use my router but the spot on my deck that i usually clamp the shelves has tomato plants in front it so I had to improvise lol

    So that pvc dust? Seems like pretty bad stuff.
    But awesome stuff. Ive decided to build the sides from 1/2 x4in strips. So the art where the tape runs will be open and i wont have to notch the sides. I was thinking this would make it lighter overall too.

    Well I had to sub after I watched you build a rack better than any guy, and you def explained everything well, I have been wanting to build a pvc rack using FB tubs forever, so I’m definitely gonna use your video and measurements. Basically $100 for a 5 level rack can’t be beat, The FB tubs are like $15-18 each if I remember correctly? Anyway thanks for this video.

      Well thank you 😁 FB40 tubs are only $13 each and I order 7’ of 6” heat tape but you could probably get away with 4” heat tape also. Without tubs the rack ends up being just over $100 which makes it totally worth it to me

    Plan on doing this using your dimensions. There's a plastic supplier near me that will cut with their cnc. Just curious did you account for the saw kerf? Thanks for the great video

      There is enough excess on the sheet that the saw kerf isn’t really a factor

    Sweet.rack !! Usually I get slapped when I say that to a lady but I think it is appropriate for this situation. I was wondering whether to get 1/2 or 3/4. I built my own then I bought a rack and don't like it so I'm going to build something else . As a pigeon guy I thought it was only us that where never satisfied with our setup but I see snakes are the same way.

      The 1/2” is plenty sufficient, 3/4” just adds extra weight. I prefer to build mine so I can get the dimensions that I need for my space

    How come you don't use your router to make the slots for the hear tape? just curious.

      It’s quicker for me to just trim the sides by hand than it is for me to set up the router to do the sides

    Can you spraypaint the white pvc? Or would that hurt the snakes?

      Maybe? I wouldn’t do the inside though, only the outside. Definitely would need to make sure it has aired out plenty before putting snakes in it

    Did you route the area for the heat tape exactly 6 inches or a little bigger for the aluminum tape to fit as well?

      I only routed the area big enough for the heat tape. The tub does slide across the aluminum tape but I haven’t had any issues with the tape so far. None of my tubs have feet though

      Not with the setup I have, I prefer to use the knife. With a different setup you could definitely use the router though

    ? In about the next three months maybe looking for a ball python as a pet I want to get a orange dream clown mix so if you know anyone that has one is for sale hatchling or around that size I may be interested at that point in about 2-3 months down the road

      At 4:12 I show a diagram that has all of the dimensions on it and it shows you how to cut the sheet to make sure you can get a full rack from just 1 sheet 😊

    How much do all the items you mentioned come to as far as cost? And can you list all the items you need to build this? Thank You...

      There is a dimension and cut list in the middle of the video. It’s just 1 sheet of pvc, a box of screws, hvac tape and heat tape. Cost depends on your area.

    Hate to ask what size tub you recommend for full grown adult ball pythons

      I use 41 qt sterilites at the moment but the v70 tubs from freedom breeder are about the same size as that and work for the very large females

    Whats the length on the heat tape overall? It's 12in wide? How long?

      It is 6” wide. To figure out your length you add how wide your shelf is plus how tall it is and multiply that by the number of shelves. Round to the next foot when you order. Then cut cut off any excess after you install it

      I just finished my rack based off this 📹 🎥, excellently accomplished, I did screw up n grab 3/4in pvc sheet from home depot it was 98 bucks. It actually worked with the same measurements, thanks again!!

    What state do you live in? I watched a video of another breeder who showed how to build these racks with the same material. He also purchased at Home Depot. I am in AZ and I run my own handyman business. I am in different Home Depot’s daily and I can not find full sheets of PVC. They only carry trim birds, that are not big enough to build this. I looked online and I can’t find it their either. Could you share the part number for the pvc sheets by chance? I’d really appreciate it.

      I’m in Delaware, we have the beaches here so a lot of builders use the pvc. In the hatchling rack video I did I showed a picture of the label on the sheet

      CD Exotics So it’s actually pretty interesting and odd. I watched the other video and got the info from the label. I went into my Home Depot app, and tried to pull it up. Arizona Home Depot’s don’t carry it, nor can they ship it from a store in another state or their warehouse to an AZ Home Depot. I’ll have to contact the actual manufacturer in order to purchase this product. It’s so strange. You’d think if HD carries a product at one store, that you can at least have it shipped to any other location. Oh well.

      I know a lot of people struggle to get the pvc :( you can check Lowe’s but I know my local Lowe’s does not carry the 1/2”

    Excellent video but let me tell you something. I go to the home depot and i ask for pvc sheets and the guy don't have idea what is that . him show me frp sheets for shower o kitchen and i show pics from the pvc sheets but him and more people are clueless. 😠

    Use a router to cut the heat tape slot out. It would be quicker and with a guild a lot cleaner otherwise nice video.

      I use a router to cut the slot. It’s quicker for me to cut the edge with a knife though instead of of the router

    If you have a router and circular saw why are using PVC instead of using regular old plywood it works better and stronger

      Plywood does not work better due to the high humidity. The pvc is also lighter than plywood.

      @@CDExotics that works out to like 420 in supplies for a five shelf. Why not just plywood?

      Plywood won’t hold up to the humidity. You can use melamine but it is very heavy and will eventually have humidity issues as well. This 5 slot fb40 rack uses 1 sheet of pvc. 5 tubs costs me $90 and heat tape is about $25. That’s around $200 for a breeder female rack with pvc

      Did you have a bad experience with them? I got a quote from them for 10 tubs instead of these since I thought shipping would be cheaper. Tubs cost more and shipping was more, even though they are much closer to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

      @@CDExotics very bad experience. Took them almost 6 weeks when they told me 4 weeks. Did not get the grey tubs like I ordered. And if I waited on grey tubs it would of been alot longer. And I had sunsets sitting in totes waiting on my rack. I was so mad. Still mad. It was a big hassle
