We make and use same similar style along with the FB40, they work awesome. Just a safety note for next one you build- take the shelf pieces and stack them on top another after you routered for the heat take, clamp them together and router that side out while you are already there, less hazardous as to trying to use the straight blade 👍
I use to work for a company that makes the PVC sheet. Those 4x8 sheets cost less than $10 to make. You can also just use a utility knife to cut your sheet, score it and snap it just like plexiglass
This helped out very much, thank you. Although I would not be cutting or routing this material outside. I would advise doing this in a garage, barn, or workshop for easy clean up.
You could plow out the heat tape spot with a table saw . The black untreated screws are not moisture resistant and will snap after some time you should use the coated screws.
Nice job on the racks, definitely would like to see how you run the heat tape and thermostat. Never used heat tape before but I will hopefully have my first clutch next year and want to build a hatchling rack.
Hi, love the channel! I built a rack in this same fashion. I’m using a herpstat 2. I’m having trouble getting all five shelves at a consistent temp. Should my probe be towards the end of the heat tape?
Good vídeo. It is nice to watch your videos because you are a handy woman. Eheheheh. You can use the router to create the space for the heat tape to pass from One level to other. You can use one shelve as a guide to the router. ;)
I typically use a straight edge when i use my router but the spot on my deck that i usually clamp the shelves has tomato plants in front it so I had to improvise lol
Well I had to sub after I watched you build a rack better than any guy, and you def explained everything well, I have been wanting to build a pvc rack using FB tubs forever, so I’m definitely gonna use your video and measurements. Basically $100 for a 5 level rack can’t be beat, The FB tubs are like $15-18 each if I remember correctly? Anyway thanks for this video.
Well thank you 😁 FB40 tubs are only $13 each and I order 7’ of 6” heat tape but you could probably get away with 4” heat tape also. Without tubs the rack ends up being just over $100 which makes it totally worth it to me
So that pvc dust? Seems like pretty bad stuff. But awesome stuff. Ive decided to build the sides from 1/2 x4in strips. So the art where the tape runs will be open and i wont have to notch the sides. I was thinking this would make it lighter overall too.
Plan on doing this using your dimensions. There's a plastic supplier near me that will cut with their cnc. Just curious did you account for the saw kerf? Thanks for the great video
I only routed the area big enough for the heat tape. The tub does slide across the aluminum tape but I haven’t had any issues with the tape so far. None of my tubs have feet though
At 4:12 I show a diagram that has all of the dimensions on it and it shows you how to cut the sheet to make sure you can get a full rack from just 1 sheet 😊
CD Exotics I must of definitely missed it then. Thank you! I have 20 FB40 tubs ready to go. Just haven’t measured them myself or determined the cuts. Work and life have gotten in the way haha
Sweet.rack !! Usually I get slapped when I say that to a lady but I think it is appropriate for this situation. I was wondering whether to get 1/2 or 3/4. I built my own then I bought a rack and don't like it so I'm going to build something else . As a pigeon guy I thought it was only us that where never satisfied with our setup but I see snakes are the same way.
There is a dimension and cut list in the middle of the video. It’s just 1 sheet of pvc, a box of screws, hvac tape and heat tape. Cost depends on your area.
CD Exotics thank you I’ve been researching freedom breeder and ARS and so many options kinda confusing wanting pets and if I decide to breed I’ll have the tubs for my pets falling for the pin stripes
What state do you live in? I watched a video of another breeder who showed how to build these racks with the same material. He also purchased at Home Depot. I am in AZ and I run my own handyman business. I am in different Home Depot’s daily and I can not find full sheets of PVC. They only carry trim birds, that are not big enough to build this. I looked online and I can’t find it their either. Could you share the part number for the pvc sheets by chance? I’d really appreciate it.
I’m in Delaware, we have the beaches here so a lot of builders use the pvc. In the hatchling rack video I did I showed a picture of the label on the sheet
CD Exotics So it’s actually pretty interesting and odd. I watched the other video and got the info from the label. I went into my Home Depot app, and tried to pull it up. Arizona Home Depot’s don’t carry it, nor can they ship it from a store in another state or their warehouse to an AZ Home Depot. I’ll have to contact the actual manufacturer in order to purchase this product. It’s so strange. You’d think if HD carries a product at one store, that you can at least have it shipped to any other location. Oh well.
? In about the next three months maybe looking for a ball python as a pet I want to get a orange dream clown mix so if you know anyone that has one is for sale hatchling or around that size I may be interested at that point in about 2-3 months down the road
Excellent video but let me tell you something. I go to the home depot and i ask for pvc sheets and the guy don't have idea what is that . him show me frp sheets for shower o kitchen and i show pics from the pvc sheets but him and more people are clueless. 😠
@@CDExotics I’m looking right now at HD for pvc. I’m going to build a simple 4 tub fb70 rack with heat cable instead of tape. I’ll be studying your videos! Are you in MA? By chance
Plywood won’t hold up to the humidity. You can use melamine but it is very heavy and will eventually have humidity issues as well. This 5 slot fb40 rack uses 1 sheet of pvc. 5 tubs costs me $90 and heat tape is about $25. That’s around $200 for a breeder female rack with pvc
@@CDExotics how many 4x8 sheets? I guess I’ll draw out the dimensions and copy your design but I’m doing fb70 so it might cost me more. I’ll get mathing soon
Did you have a bad experience with them? I got a quote from them for 10 tubs instead of these since I thought shipping would be cheaper. Tubs cost more and shipping was more, even though they are much closer to me 🤷🏻♀️
@@CDExotics very bad experience. Took them almost 6 weeks when they told me 4 weeks. Did not get the grey tubs like I ordered. And if I waited on grey tubs it would of been alot longer. And I had sunsets sitting in totes waiting on my rack. I was so mad. Still mad. It was a big hassle
I cant hit the like button enough!! Thank you so very much for making the diy so easy to follow..
Happy to help!
this was great thanks, deff looking forward to those heat tape videos

I didn’t even think to clamp them all together and route them at the same time, very smart!
Another awesome video and super helpful!! Definitely going to refer back once it is time to build another her rack!

U just helped me decide what to do with my breeder racks. Love it. Ur always helping me! Ur amazing!
I’m loving these fb40 tubs so far. Curious to see how they eat in themm
Great video. Was looking at ars and it was like 3 Grand. I only have 5 ball pythons. Was definitely looking for a good diy
This helped out very much, thank you.

Awesome job!! You’re a thought lol’ lady. 🙏🏼🤙🏼💪🏼
This was a great tutorial. Thanks a bunch
Thank you for this! Just the video I needed, I was planning on building my own PVC breeder female rack.
Good luck with your build!

Great video doing research
This is an excellent Video Thank you so much!
Great vid
I like your build Courtney ❤️😍😘
Can you use a mini router for this? For heat tape? I’m looking to build my second rack but I don’t have a router
Nice vidio,, thaks for Inspirition

Coming soon! That video should be up in the next week or so :)
What kind of board did you use? I can’t find em at Home Depot or Lowe’s lol but I think I’m just looking at the wrong thing

What with heat tape are you using?
Verry nice diy Video. I am about to build one myself AS fb40 are nie available in germany too!
Go for it!
8:10 have you ever thought to use your router fro the shelf side?
With my setup it’s easier to use the knife for the side
Thank you for the DIY video. Do you have one for the FB hatchling tubs as well?
Yes I do :) it’s on the end screen of this video or you can just look through my videos for it

I love the fb40 just don't like the $50 shipping
These were actually cheaper to ship than 10 ars tubs. I got a quote from both and was shocked that FB was cheaper

There is enough excess on the sheet that the saw kerf isn’t really a factor
@@CDExotics fantastic! Thanks again
Did you route the area for the heat tape exactly 6 inches or a little bigger for the aluminum tape to fit as well?

Can you spraypaint the white pvc? Or would that hurt the snakes?
Maybe? I wouldn’t do the inside though, only the outside. Definitely would need to make sure it has aired out plenty before putting snakes in it
Great video
Thanks 🙏
Where do you get your pvc?
Very nice...
Thanks 🙏
You've stunning eyes🤩👍
How come you don't use your router to make the slots for the hear tape? just curious.
It’s quicker for me to just trim the sides by hand than it is for me to set up the router to do the sides
Would it not be easier using the router to trim out edges ?
Not with the setup I have, I prefer to use the knife. With a different setup you could definitely use the router though
I may have missed it or it wasn’t mentioned in the video but what were the dimensions of the shelves in the rack?

I know how that goes. Hopefully this will make things easier for you!
hello I want to start this build how did you figure out the measurements for each piece should be
I use the tub measurements and add a little extra everywhere

The 1/2” is plenty sufficient, 3/4” just adds extra weight. I prefer to build mine so I can get the dimensions that I need for my space
Nice!
Sorry so many comment. I got some plastic spray paint and painted the outside of my clear tubs and let them dry for a week .
Impressive
I wish my home depot had pvc here! They tell me they can't get it here. What area are you in?
I live near the beach so they use pvc on a lot of the houses here because of the salt air
@@CDExotics I miss living in FL I was able to get it there. Being land locked sucks in Colorado. Ty for the response
How much do all the items you mentioned come to as far as cost? And can you list all the items you need to build this? Thank You...

Hate to ask what size tub you recommend for full grown adult ball pythons
I use 41 qt sterilites at the moment but the v70 tubs from freedom breeder are about the same size as that and work for the very large females
CD Exotics thank you I’ve been researching freedom breeder and ARS and so many options kinda confusing wanting pets and if I decide to breed I’ll have the tubs for my pets falling for the pin stripes
Waiting for the last couple babies to shed out and I’ll have an update on my most recent clutch, it has quite a few pinstripes in it 😉

Yes, I am sure. I don't buy the 3/8" pvc
Use a router to cut the heat tape slot out. It would be quicker and with a guild a lot cleaner otherwise nice video.
I use a router to cut the slot. It’s quicker for me to cut the edge with a knife though instead of of the router

🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you haven't subscribed you are making a mistake.
Awwww thank you soo much!!!!!
Use your router to hit the sides rather then the utility knife
I prefer the knife, just easier with my setup
If you have a router and circular saw why are using PVC instead of using regular old plywood it works better and stronger
Plywood does not work better due to the high humidity. The pvc is also lighter than plywood.
I feel I just witnessed an attempt at mansplaining something. An unsuccessful attempt at that lol
At $78 a sheet for pvc why not just buy a rack?
I can build a rack for half of what it would cost to order one. Plus I don’t have to deal with crazy long wait times
