Literally every topic I think to search for you already have a video on it. Thanks Chris!
I installed heat tape in my homemade rack. It is awesome. Reptile basics is where I went for that
how did you control the temp im guessing with a thermostat with a probe if so where did u place the probe
Terry Billings yes, a thermostat. The probe is taped against the center of the tape
your videos are the best, always happy and smiling. thanks for always brightening my day!
Thanks!
I try and go to other channels but ... I always come back to yours.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Same love your channel
Lol it’s crazy to go back to the beginning and see how far you came great job you are definitely one of my favorite breeders because you can see the passion you have thanks for the video
Thanks so much 😊
This is such a great channel, you have a video on literally everything!
This is my favorite educational channel
Drilling holes doesn’t work great for me. I used a soldering iron to make the holes!
I did the same with my tubs worked great
yeh i used my woodburner. =)
I used an antique soldering iron and it worked so well.
Who
ARS is down the road from me, love their racks!
Man you have some of the best videos, really appreciate the content.
Most informative videos for ball python breeding on UA-cam! !!!
I appreciate that!
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures no prob! I'm just starting into breeding this fall/winter will be my first year and I have learned more from your videos and the few questions I've asked on your live feeds and I can't thank you enough!!
What company can you order these single racks from to slowly build up a rack system?
Do you like the one ARS hybrid rack you own? I saw you had a ARS 1039... I have a few Freedom Breeder 1040-40's I like them a lot, but they are not cheap. I was just wondering about the hybrids. They are the only ones that would be cost affective for me. I live way closer to Freedom Breeder. The normal ARS rack would be too costly for shipping. Was thinking of buying a ARS 1065 and 7030.
Does the heat pad melt the plastic tubs?? Do you put the pads directly in the tub under the substrate or on the outside adhered to the bottom?
I've built my own rack also. Works just as good as a high dollar rack. The plastic shelving from lowes.
Hey if you could hook me up with the instructions that would be amazing I'm going to become a breeder and need a cheap easy rack
Same here and pricing as well.
Same here!
Question, how do you know what size to get? For instance I have 2 babies 1 adult male and going to get an adult female. I know you need different sizes for the mail or the female and the baby but how do you know which rack or which style and size tub you need? Right now I really only need a single probably three different shingles just not really sure what size they should be
I have a 5 high 70 series & a 35 series. Is it ok, having males and females in the same rack?
Which thermostat do you use with your ARS 5040, also where do you get the cups for the water holder? One more question! Where did you get your printer and magnets for labeling? Great idea.
Will the heat pad burn through the plastic
ware is the heat mat for them ????
So they didn’t need any heat? And they will be okay?
Where can I find the single level rack for $100? Looking, but no luck so far
I was able to build a pvc rack that houses 5 adults/10 sub adults plus 12 hatchlings for under $250. Had Home Depot cut all the pieces so all I had to do was assemble and add heat tape from Reptile Basics. Building a rat rack now.
You mind sending me the measurements on how you do it?
John Mendoza here is cut list: 6 PCs 24”x17” (lower shelves), 2 pcs 36” x 17” (lower sides at front), 3 pcs 24”x17” (upper shelves), 4 pcs 24” x 6” (upper sides), 2 pcs 36” x 7” (lower back - one on each side to keep tubs from sliding back, some of back is open). These were cut from 2 4’ x 8’ sheets of 1/2” pvc with no leftover). The lower section holds 10 15qt Sterilites or 5 32qt Sterilites...the top holds 12 6 qt Sterilites and there’s actually room for one more 24”x17” shelf of the top section adding three more tub capacity. Let me know if you need help, I can email you pic of finished product. Good luck.
@@dawnmurphy403 I’m really interested in seeing this. Could you please share a picture?
where oh where did you find that awesome watering can? I need couple those....

I really want to say thank you so much Chris. I can tell you that hands down you have the best videos on UA-cam if your looking for the most complete information on Ball Pythons. I can say this because I do in fact watch just about everyone's channels and they give great info however it always just seems incomplete. I sometimes feel as though they dont want to give out the information because they dont want to see new and or up and coming breeders.
I've had Ball Pythons and a few other types of snakes as a teenager and when I was about 20 or so I had started a family and found that I just couldn't keep up with the animals and so I had given my snakes to people.. now I'm 42 years old and things have slowed down and so I really want to get into breeding of these beautiful snakes. I'm absolutely blown away at all the different morphs that are out there now. I've recently picked up a few hatchling. at the time i got them i wasnt thinking breeding however with each passing day I'm gearing up to do so maybe next year. like I said I picked up hatchlings. so over the next 6 months I'm gonna look into adult females. I currently have a male normal het for pied and he is a yearling. I have a male black pewter bee and he hatched in july. I have a male phantom pinstripe who as well was hatched in June and lastly I have a female orange dream and I believe shes also a yearling. they are doing so awesome. anyways.. I just wanted to thank you for sharing everything that you do! i really want to do this as a hobby and not so much for making money. i really love these snakes and I'm so excited to try this out. i do have a question. i notice that almost all the other UA-cam ball python breeders always get together here and there. there is even a podcast of sorts called triple b tv and he has a lot of reptile folks on there. have they even reached out to you to be an interview oranything? or to invite you out to there places?? I'm just wondering is all.. I wish you the best and cant wait to watch all your new videos...
I think a lot of those guys get together because they live pretty close, I'm way out in Colorado. I think I'm kind of the new guy on the block too, haven't been into it as long as some of those other guys, I just put out a lot more videos LOL.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures well that's not necessarily true. I know brian lives in California. he's the triple b TV guy. theres another brian and he lives in Detroit Michigan and then there is kevin from nerd and nerd stands for new England reptile distributors. he is up in new Hampshire.. I also live in new England as well. I live in Connecticut. I hope that one day I see an interview of you on triple b TV.
Get a large bucket and fill it with soapy water then you can just throw the used water cups in there and when it’s time to wash then you’ll only have to rinse them out almost like how they do glasses at the bar. Just an idea 💡 👍🏼 good video
Great idea!!
When you mentioned the ball pythons getting RI from too much humidity is that the case for colubrids as well?
Yes.
Where do you get those gray bins of yours?
They are all from ARSCaging.com
So the snakes doesn’t need a baskin light?
Its not problem when the racks only have the heat source coming from the back side and not the bottom? I can’t seem to find any rack systems with heat coming from the bottom.
These racks have heat on the bottom but only in the back of the tub.
I built a rack system like this with clear plastic tubs I blacked out with tape, I have belly heat on a thermostat and all make ball pythons went off feed, is it possible they just don't like the set-up? its been over a month now and they are still not eating.
Hopefully you fixed the problem by now, but a month off food isn’t uncommon for ball pythons. You might just have picky eaters I’ve noticed it varies with each individual snake. I’m not a breeder yet but one of my females for instance has a very nice setup with tons of space and places to climb but she spends 100% of her time hiding and would be at home in a rack system. My girlfriend’s male on the other hand is insanely active and flips out if you mess with his enclosure at all.
a 48" wide shelving unit is the exterior dimentions. Can't fit 2 24" wide tubs side by side. wont work
Bummer!
Hallo sir may i know what's the name of gray plastic box you use? Thanks!
Check it out: www.arscaging.com/welcome.php
Thanks!
What all do the racks come with or need? Jus a single one I’m looking to get
They come with the tub and heat panel, you just need a thermostat to control the heat.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures and what was the website's name? I couldn't catch it
Does that rack that you got from ars caging ship to the uk?
I'm not sure...
Where would u put the probes when heating with the pad?
I put the probe right on the heat source so it doesn't get too hot.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures inside or outside the tank/tub
This may be a dumb question... but what size are all your tubs?
Actually I did that video, check it out:
ua-cam.com/video/sWQ_DJ6U5So/v-deo.html
New to racks
How do you prevent them from escaping
Make sure there's no gap in between the rack and the top of the bin, and make sure the holes aren't too big.
Can I plasti dip the outside of the clear enclosure? To maker it dark?
I bet you could!
Was wondering the same! No one online has mentioned the topic
@@ryanconklin6835 Ive done it multiple times over the years for snakes - you dont even need plasti dip just spray paint cans of dark matte colours that specify they work on plastic. Make sure you put the tubs upside down and get only the outside surface covered, two layers are usually enough. Do it outdoors and let the paint dry fully for atleast a day so its safe for the snakes
If you were going to use a tote would it be better instead of using a clear one and adding hides to use a colored tote and treat it more like an individual from the rack, where the whole tote would basically be the hide?
That's what I would do.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures Thank you so much for the quick response, the amazing video, and also for answering one of my lingering questions since recently getting interested in Ball Pythons 😁
Where do you buy the rack?
I got all my racks from ARS Caging.
Hi Chris, I'm looking to get a ball python or blood python. Do you sell your snakes on morph market? I would like to buy a snake straight from someone that knows what they are doing like you
Here's a link to my Morphmarket store:
www.morphmarket.com/us/c/reptiles?store=cchardwick
Awesome video!
Do these have lights? I've always heard 12 on 12 off.
There's no lights in the tub, but there are holes in the top above the tub that lets in ambient light. I pretty much turn on the lights when I wake up and turn them off when I go to bed LOL
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures You have become my inspiration to start breeding. I currently have 2 females. A Super Lesser BEL, and a Enchi Calico Spinner. Both are not breeding size but ya have to start somewhere right?
@damnitbobby man that’s what I immediately was thinking as grower myself 🤣
Do you sell your hatchlings?
Yes, I sell them on Morphmarket but I don't have any for sale right now. Here's a link to my store, I should have more in about a month or so.
www.morphmarket.com/us/c/reptiles?store=cchardwick
I have my ball python in a blacked out fish tank with only the front unpainted so I can check on her. I am wanting to get a rack but they're so expensive. Cheapest ones I've found are for juveniles for 70 bucks on TGR. I'm on a fixed income so I can't really do what most breeders do. I am researching breeding tips so I can have a little extra money to get through the month between checks. My question is what was the name of the site you got that grey rack behind you in most of the vid? I'd like to give it a browse

@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures thank you
@@jessecrump2959 I too am in a similar situation. I recently found someone locally in a Facebook group who builds racks and agreed to a half now half later payment arrangement. That would be something to look into.
@@willywonkabrah314 do you have a name for me to contact? And do you know whether they take PayPal or some other kind of payment? My card isn't accepted with PayPal and I don't trust Venmo.
@@jessecrump2959 no. Im sorry I wasn't more clear. I was implying that would be a good method for you to use. Join local Facebook reptile groups and ask around.
Wait why didnt you have water in your temperary tubs.??...
It's just a prop for my UA-cam videos, I don't keep snakes in there.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures no yeah I Know that but I'm saying because you said you had them set up in the temperary tubs an you said the only thing you didn't have was water...
When i first started out i housed all my ball pythons in 48qt tubs for long term housing wirh no problem.
And i have never ever used a hide but i do use paper instead of a chip or husk substrate. So i guess they did have hides because they would hide under the paper.
🐍🐍👌🏿
All the heat mat makers told me you can't use them with plastic tubs. Even with a thermostat.
Interesting...
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures do you know why heat mat maker are against it and think is not suitable?
@@funnygaming2672 its likely a liability statement that way if there's a malfunction their butts are covered.
I can’t find the video of all your snakes my dad was telling me about 😍

Do they live in the racks?
Nice video but the title says how to build a rack...nothing in this video about building
When I got my block of bedding with my reptile kit, I didn't know I was supposed to break it apart. I decided it was too much to keeping cleaning up the mess so I took it out and gave Jewel newspaper bedding instead, and her doctor said that's okay.
