Hey Shannon & Katniss! I think your camera/video skills are very helpful with your cat sitting business! Mine aren't so great. One of my cats knows how to open our glass door so that is a huge issue for us. We just returned from a 8 day trip and used a new pet sitter that, for us, is a one and done unfortunately. I learn so much from your videos each and every time so thank you for your time in making these!

@@Mphscat thank you for saying that! I am glad the videos are helpful! What happened with your cat sitter? It always makes me sad to hear of people having bad experiences with them. I feel like these stories are way too common!

@@MeowmyandMe I was referred to her by another pet sitter and not Meowtel. This lady has a pet photography business so I had high hopes. She was to come once per day (morning) to let our two dogs out and feed/water/litterbox our 5 indoor cats. My neighbor was going to come in the evenings. The pet sitter was repeatedly late even starting with our meet & greet. Red flag. She did the bare minimum with the dogs & cats including us coming home to dirty cat water bowls which made me sad for them. I also feel she overcharged us for the care she provided. She did take alot of photos but we do that ourselves! What do you think would have been a fair daily charge for a 30 minute (if that) drop in?

@@MphscatI am sorry you had a bad experience. There is no excuse for being late repeatedly, and leaving dirty water bowls is even worse. I wonder if she is using these pet sitting jobs as an opportunity to get pics to promote her photo business - definitely check her website and social media to see if she puts your pets’ pictures up. If they are used in an ad without your permission, that is a problem. As for a fair rate, it somewhat depends on the area and what all she was asked to do but roughly around $30 for 30 minutes - possibly a bit less if not booked through an app (because there would be no one taking a commission)

@@MeowmyandMe I forgot one other thing: The first day after her visit, my neighbor went over to check on everybody and found our back door left unlocked. Again, the entire experience with her was a huge disappointment. During our meet & greet she took a call from another client and stayed on the phone for 20 minutes with them in our presence before meeting with us. She was extremely unprofessional to be a business owner IMO. She charged us $35 with was far too much for what little she did. Thanks for your feedback on this.

@@Mphscat leaving the back door unlocked was unacceptable and potentially dangerous. Taking another call at all and for sure staying on the phone for any period of time was definitely unprofessional. I am sorry this was your experience. Does she have a business page you can leave a review on?

    Awesome! Thank you
I’m curious about how many hrs a week “part time” has been for you?
Also, how many sits do you typically handle at the same time?
And last but not least 😁 if the client “breaks policy” and the meowtel insurance is void, does that mean you are on the line? Or safe because they broke policy?
    Thank you so much!

You are very welcome and thanks for watching! On average I would say part-time is 10-15 hours a week for me, which includes drive time and time I spend on the written summaries and video clips of my visits. The number of sits varies…I try not to do more than two a day, but 3-4 does happen occasionally. They are all either 20 or 45-minute visits. And lastly if a client breaks policy and insurance is void the sitter is not protected (nor is the client if something happens to you). This part really caught me off guard and I think it’s important to be aware of

I recently got accepted and am waiting for clients at the moment, how long did it take you to get a client? I’m excited to get started! I just started a new job as well that’s full time so wondering if i’m going to get a lot of clients or not.

Awesome! Congratulations! It took me about two weeks to get my first client, and about six months to get things really rolling with a handful of now regulars. I have found it is one of those things that snowballs - the more reviews you get, the more requests this leads to. And it's so exciting because cat sitting is so much fun! Also congratulations on your new full-time job as well!
