Ford F150 OEM Receiver/Hitch repair

My 2014 Ford F150 came with the "Trailer" package which having the stock FORD OEM receiver or hitch installed in the rear of the truck. What makes this receiver different from after market receivers is Ford welds a plate on the cross member of the receiver to provide support under the plastic step that is created by the plastic bumper cover. This welded piece of metal is so thin that after several years is begins to rust and becomes useless in supporting anyone from stepping on the bumper in front of the license plate holder. Because my truck is going in for undercarriage rust proofing, I wanted to replace this as soon as possible. In this video I show what is under the plastic bumper cover, why their bumpers are cheesy and the rusted metal support I plan on replacing with the correct support. Over all money spent on this....$20 bucks for the steel stock.
New trailer 7pin round/4pin flat connection - $45 from eTrailer - No wire harness. Just the connector.

Oh, steel and aluminum DOES mix, and that's the problem. Yeah, the gasket is needed to keep them separated. Normal there is no corrosion until moisture is introduced. I found your video because I think I overloaded my hitch receiver which caused a crack and I'll need to replace it. Thanks for your video!

The biggest issue really was the plastic bumper cover having no support to step on. Now, it can easily support my weight. Would not change a thing.

Nice work! I have a 6.2L F150, driven in the Northeast! I would be scared to to even look there :lol:. I have rust around the backup sensor on the bumper. Helpful info to tale the cover off. I plan on painting the bumper.

You can buy that whole receiver section and bolt the rest to it but I like what you did.
