gamespy has stopped working..i believe....most people use the steam edition which has a ready madeup servers available for play.....for hotseat play is generally for campaigns...as such it is better to use the kingdoms version or retrofit mod for vanilla hotseat campaign and then send the turns via email :D...lan is a local area network[basically connecting to a nearby fellow machine by cable..:D
Paladinbob, you are literally the best scenario maker out there in the Third Age community. You make miracles happen with the limitations that are present. On behalf of the viewers I would like to thank you. Just keep them coming bro :)
that is true but remember the time for the battle is TA1105 and thus sauron who travels to the Rhun from dol guldur during the watchfall peace[2063+ TA and returns to Dol Guldur in 2460TA] it is probably during this time that he found willing men to serve him in return for aggression against gondor [especially after the gondor expansion]..remember the lifes of men are short and the men of the east had probably forgetten the dark times where ancestors had fought for the evil side in previous wars..but the flame of revenge can be a great motivator :D
+paladinbob 123 paladin, there was once a time when I thought of myself as the greatest lore master in Apollo Land, but alas, Nothing Gold can stay! :P
This is definitely true, but apollo made it seem like they were already fighting for Saurons side in this video, which would mean that they were already bought to his side and were fighting for money and lands, and I guess some revenge too.
Or just be tales with little or no textual support, passed down from generation to generation. Like what the Men of Rohan do. After all, the Men of Rohan originated from the realm of Vidugavia, the greatest of Gondor's allies, and indeed, the Kings of Rohan were descended from Vidugavia himself. Even the Kings of Gondor were descended from Vidugavia, through marriage. The blood of the Northmen ran true in the veins of the Kings, and the daughter of the third last King, Fíriel, married Arvedui, the King of Arthedain, and their children would become the Chieftains of the Dúnedain after the fall of the last remnants of Arnor, and eventually Aragorn II would be Chief.
Pixie Poo-Well done boy this one was a beast but totally worth it. Paladin Bob does some great work, hats off to him and his group of players. That valley O' death was terrifying I would be busy emptying out my golden armored pants if I was commanded to take that. Those Gondor archers had one big turkey shoot. I would like another Napoleon Total War battle in the near future. Thanks for all you do-Matt
Hi there! Something i'd really like to see in third age is a historical battle series with reversed roles of good and bad, for example: Helm's Deep Uruks defend, Rohan attacks, Rhun's cavalry come to save the defenders and trolls come instead of Ents. At Minas Tirith you have orcs defending agains't the hordes of Gondor, with rhunic cav coming instead of rohan and elven archer cav instead of Mumakils, instead of the ghost army coming to save gondor you have a swarm of nazgûls/black nümenorians/mumakils coming as the last ditch effort to save the defenders. I think it would be really fun to see!!!!!
This was probably my favorite Third Age battle that you've commentated on, and I've watched a great amount of your videos. Absolutely awesome scenario, really interesting army comps, and great job on both sides in a well-fought battle. Fantastic video, Apollo.
This one was especially painful. Since it was so long and some of the tactics the Gondorian general was using was really dissapointing. Apollo makes it better, though!
I think they could've just retreated back to the castle, would've made things easier to micro, while leaving a couple cheap archers to rack up kills on the huge advancing mass
+anthony z the town center was their death. They should've stayed at the small bridgelike chokepoint. The guards of osgiliath could have slaughtered hundreds of elite soldiers in that area, and man the archer/ artillery fire...
easily one of the best battles, the death valley is so awesome, it should be its own movie it would be so good... good job Apollo keep up the good work
Thanks for the "skip to battle" annotation I know it's in every video but it helps so much because I just want to see the battle and just touching it is so much easier than finding the time it myself thanks
Really awesome battle, both the defenders and the attackers played well, even though some smaller misstakes were made by the defenders but it was all really good. The first part, the "battle of death valley" was really really good-looking and awesome, the best battle I have seen in your videos so far.
That was one of the coolest battles I've seen in a while, I really enjoyed it! The only problem I thought was, what Gondor did with the cav and What the dwarves did by clumping a lot of their units early on, though they did do some awesome play! Also I lost they way you announced that boromir had died! Ha! Great video, hope we get more like this!
i love the background music! I hope you will also upload my battle replay with Durin's Keep. If you want i can add some story behind the battle too. Great Video! Thanks to Paladinbob!
I would love to see more weathertop custom battles. Great commentary/scenario btw, can't go wrong with paladin bobs scenarios commentated by the PixelatedApollo.
The People of Rhun are not generally evil. In fact, they have known trade with Dwarves,Elves and some men of Dorwinion and Dale. They usully traded textile, exotic goods and wine. Their siding with evil factions is more like being oppurtunistic and lust for power and being from afraid from being destroyed by Sauron. They are no devout servants of Sauron or Melkor and some of them even despise them (giving Morgoth's betrayal).
Such a cool battle. Shows how far a scenario and geography goes to enhancing a battle. Not just about throwing two armies at each other. PaladinBob outdid himself with this one. Another good one he came up with was the Laketown one.
Fantastic battle, just a few things to do differently next time, the defenders, more commitment to holding the first valley, that's where your going to get 70-80% of your kills, if they get past that valley with at least one full army the numbers will grind you down all the way back to the keep. Secondly less trebuchet, more archers, they got some good hits obviously and the panics always helpful but if you lined that valley up with 2-3 more units of elite archers and held up the defence better they'd have been slaughtered on a much grander scale. Finally if you didn't retreat the archers out of there when the enemy starts to push they've got two choices, come up and get you, tires them out, divided their forces (divide and conquer remains one of the most valuable military strategies to date) or they ignore you in favour of the push and you've got a solid amount of numbers to flank and harass with. Just some thoughts otherwise great battle
Ahh well, well done on your command, you did very well with what you were given, personally I'd always take balistas first, then catapults, then trebuchet if i had no choice, they're buggy, inaccurate and so slow getting them out of tricky spots isn't even worth the time
I clearly remember 10,000 I think I started watching at about 5000. I've only been subscribed for just over a year so I can't really brag it just goes to show that it took you 355 days to get from 10k to 150k which is insane so keep it up!
The Gondorian defense was a joke. It was an unfocused, scattered mess. His forces were isolated in pockets, useless once the enemy moved past. All his firepower was stuck up on bloody cliffs out of range rather than in the valley to match the attackers. Rhun had far more firepower where it counted, demolishing any defensive formations in their way. The Dwarven army was far more proactive, but lacked the support of its ally. Considering how much ranged power Gondor concentrated on that chokepoint, he should have lent more men to the Dwarves to hold it on the ground.
Agreed. The Dwarves were working their asses off trying to hold the enemies at bay. Gondor just wasted its cav while allowing it's troops to get shot at the gate and let its Boromir die.
halabala manakana Well he was defending and he had a lot of archers and a very good vantage point along with an allied army of dwarves who were keeping the enemy from getting to his archers, 3,000 kills was the least he could get.
Agreed also their uses of artilleries were not that effective. Gondor should've snipped out the rhun artilleries when they had the perfect position but they didn't and the dwarf suffered from enemy fires. I saw a lot of dwarves dead troops by rhun artilleries.
I think it is perfectly possible for the defenders to win..i did another battle of this plying with dwarfs and we scored a win at the last keep ..so it is possible :D
They should had defend that first valley, they killed way more men than they did kill in the castle. the first section of the battle was a completely massacre and sacrifice for Rhun. I hate Elves.
I think like in any team battle...the defenders have to coordinate a plan..if the dwarfs stay and fight early..then they should have max fire support from gondor..if they decide to do a fighting withdrawnal ..then gondor would be free to organise support fire as he sees fit..ultimately the plan of the defense has to be co-ordinated well for maximum efficiency :D
+paladinbob 123 You are a true legend and the almighty master of Third Age battle series. All hail upon you Paladin Bob the Magnificent. I wish I could play a match with you, if I had a proper comtputer though. Maybe one day...
Most of the early conflicts between the east and gondor was fought between Gondor and the Variags of Khand and the Wainriders. - The Easterlings actually killed the last king of Gondor directly descendent from Anarion's line. The next kings of Gondor were actually selected differently. - There is actually an underplayed plot point that Aragorn, because he was from Isildur's line, didn't have a fully legitimate claim to become King of Gondor. In the books he refuses to claim the tittle until Sauron is fully defeated, and he become king of both Arnor and Gondor. Rhovanian and the men of Dale are closely related to the Rohirrim, the Rohirim where for the most part originally from Rhovanian but migrated to their present lands (given to them by Gondor) as a result of the wars with the easterlings. Similarly the conflict with the Haradrim started with a gondor civil war when the Black Numonorians of Umbar defected and rose up against the Gondorian king. Its not well referenced in the movies, but a large part of the men fighting for Sauron came from lands formerly part of Gondor. Half of Harad for example used to be known as South Gondor for instance. The movies paint it all as good vs evil, and so do the books to an extent, but if you scratch a bit below the heavily romanticised surface there's a lot of pretty convoluted political intrigue in middle earth.
Its getting closer to the 10 year anniversary maybe you could do a siege week for old times sake on medieval 2 or even on its mods. Once again great work and you convinced me all those years ago back with the ryan king to get this game.
One hour long!? Oh yes! [I think it is called Khan, as Emperor was not really a thing for the easterlings, but i can see it in the lore perspective :) ]
The attackers played this one like pros. A few mistakes on the defense's end. I think if I were in control of Gondor I would've tasked every trebuchet to blast those siege towers apart to make it super hard to attack the actual fortress, as well as trying to snipe artillery and retreating the archers earlier so they wouldn't get caught out in the open. Thanks for the great scenarios Paladin Bob!
Hey Apollo, this was by far one of my most enjoyed battles, if you could play more battles in these kind of made up historical battles that would be awesome!!!
with the supply line down then Gondor would have to spend money and resources to build another army. considering they wouldnt be able to pull away troops from their front across the Rhunic badlands. Pushing the nation to its financial limits. basic necessities cost more. people become unhappy. then they won't want the war.
I think Apollo had more than a couple of his green tea to finish this vid...great job ...man :D
haha its true :P
you spelled scenario wrong in the description >(
+Jelly Rolls haha secinaro

Wow these custom battles are great. Seriously like Paladin bob out does himself everytime man; appreciate it.
bless you grandmaster, the thumbnail itself sent shivers down my third age deprived soul
I love how appollo puts those little side vote things just to make things a tiny bit more exilerating
hahah I enjoy them too :D
+Pixelated Apollo I enjoy watching u :)
Its actually the other way around, Rhun sided with mordor because Sauron promised them gondors lands and wealth.
that is true but remember the time for the battle is TA1105 and thus sauron who travels to the Rhun from dol guldur during the watchfall peace[2063+ TA and returns to Dol Guldur in 2460TA] it is probably during this time that he found willing men to serve him in return for aggression against gondor [especially after the gondor expansion]..remember the lifes of men are short and the men of the east had probably forgetten the dark times where ancestors had fought for the evil side in previous wars..but the flame of revenge can be a great motivator :D

Easterlings have traditionally sided with sauron and morgoth

Hands down best battle EVER! I watch this reply over and over again. Can't get enough! This one and the D-Day with the Spartans two of your best!
I just stumbled upon your channel but now I really like it. I watch a lot of your total war videos. Keep the great content coming.
1 million view video.....keep it up Apollo...
Yes, ur amazing keep it up
Which one?
I don't think he does
?
+Sirmaximus000 Probably 1 million views in total for his whole channel.
This was probably my favorite Third Age battle that you've commentated on, and I've watched a great amount of your videos. Absolutely awesome scenario, really interesting army comps, and great job on both sides in a well-fought battle. Fantastic video, Apollo.
"Oh, and the camera and I are doing battle" gave a thumbs up just for that lol.
One of your best vids so far, my 4 favourite kind of things combined: 1. Third Age 2. Sieges 3. Long battles 4. Choke points
can we have an epic siege where the defenders win? it's always so depressing when they lose...and that's almost always
This one was especially painful. Since it was so long and some of the tactics the Gondorian general was using was really dissapointing. Apollo makes it better, though!
watch the episode where the dwarves invades rivendell.
+nico LoL it's impossible for the guards of osgiliath to kill 100 because they are gonna be shot to death with the help of the cab and infantry
One of the best battles i have seen so far. Great job Apollo and Paladinbob.
This is easily the best video recap I have ever seen. Totally worth the time. ( He says half way through.)
that video felt like forever! In the best way possible! Such amazing battle and good commentary!
I've watched a lot of your videos and this is by far my favorite. Such an epic battle
this. was so cinematic. holy shit that was amazing to watch. awesome commentating man! love your stuff!
easily one of the best battles, the death valley is so awesome, it should be its own movie it would be so good... good job Apollo keep up the good work
This may be your best Third Age video yet! Absolutely awesome battle to watch, mad props to Paladinbob.
Keep up the good work bro!! Your vids got me back into doing lego lotr war gaming so really grateful and I really enjoy your video bro.
8:20 "I don't want to be here for 1 hour, one hour and a half", the video is 1 hour and 12 minutes...
yeah and if I didn't cut some of it, it would be an hour and a half
u earnd 15 min :)
Thanks for the "skip to battle" annotation I know it's in every video but it helps so much because I just want to see the battle and just touching it is so much easier than finding the time it myself thanks
That was a good move by DeluxePenguin at 42:00. A very well-executed maneuver.
Ole ole ole Omg so excited to watch :) and its also paladinbob
Really awesome battle, both the defenders and the attackers played well, even though some smaller misstakes were made by the defenders but it was all really good.
The first part, the "battle of death valley" was really really good-looking and awesome, the best battle I have seen in your videos so far.
an epic battle ..great job by paladin bob and you PA!!hope we will see more awesome maps like this one
Old total war how long the battle are and how epic it is. Wish creative assembly and sega would look back and make their games great again
Could you have used a different wording than "make their game great again"?
+Ketil Flatnose i done it as a joke :p
The warhammer one is actually really epic with the clashes, charges and animations but they somehow dumbed down sieges and made the battles too fast.
there is a mod that makes the battles last longer like old total wars
What Mod?
This is probably the best video to the date
Wow, your videos are amazing! Keep up the good work! Subscribed!
The best hour and ten minutes of my life :'D. Keep it up Apollo!
awsome video apollo keep up the good work
Oh God I saw the thumbnail on your twitter and I am hyped..
I don't even need to watch it to say it's gonna be good!
MW2 will never get old. Great job Paladin bob, as always.
What a battle, this is straight from a movie 👏👏👏
That was one of the coolest battles I've seen in a while, I really enjoyed it! Wow, this battle is so epic! Great job Apollo!
This is one of the coolest longest battle I have seen I wish to see some more of battles like this one :)
Defenders made so many mistakes in their defence. Still voted for them knowing they'd be annihilated, lol.
So epic! Loved it!
i love the background music! I hope you will also upload my battle replay with Durin's Keep. If you want i can add some story behind the battle too.
Great Video! Thanks to Paladinbob!
nice.never saw this awsome senario befor! keep up the good work
I would love to see more weathertop custom battles. Great commentary/scenario btw, can't go wrong with paladin bobs scenarios commentated by the PixelatedApollo.
This battle was worth every second to watch. Great vid👍
Wow, in my opinion this is the best battle ever displayed on this channel
This has to be one of the most enjoyable battles I've seen yet.
one of the greatest battles i have seen on your channel, very godt job! but sadly not the ending i was hoping for, but stil very epic
Great job Apollo this battle was definitely intriguing

Apollo man i fucking love you! You are the youtuber i have been looking for :) i love your attidude and your humor, it makes my day every time!
Thanks man! Means a lot
Very epic battle. This was an awesome scenario. So many bodies. Through the defile of death wow.

Agreed. The Dwarves were working their asses off trying to hold the enemies at bay. Gondor just wasted its cav while allowing it's troops to get shot at the gate and let its Boromir die.
Yeah, the whole thing was pretty bad. The Gondorian force was far too arrogant with their positioning.
Way too late to be of any practical use. Once he did, they were just left out between his walls and the enemy army, and butchered.
halabala manakana Well he was defending and he had a lot of archers and a very good vantage point along with an allied army of dwarves who were keeping the enemy from getting to his archers, 3,000 kills was the least he could get.

That battle was really unfair for the defenders, 4 vs 2 armies?! Still really good battle
I think it is perfectly possible for the defenders to win..i did another battle of this plying with dwarfs and we scored a win at the last keep ..so it is possible :D

Normal people when they see dead bodies: oh no what a waste of life.
Apollo: wow it must really stink
Great battle, big up from Hungary to Apollo an Paladinbob!☺
Its getting closer to the 10 year anniversary maybe you could do a siege week for old times sake on medieval 2 or even on its mods. Once again great work and you convinced me all those years ago back with the ryan king to get this game.

Another great battle Apollo, keep it up:)
What, Rhun finally won a battle, by themselves, against Gondor and the Dwarves?! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!?!
thanks for spoiling the whole battle
Definitely like the obvious visible progression during the battle.
I would like to give Aoppol a shirt that says Get your Snack and Drinks ready. Good catch phrase
love these vids. would love to see more gondor vs easterlings
You know this is going to be amazing if its more than an hour long :D
But Apollo's videos always are amazing
Those were absolutely BRUTAL artillery hits on those poor Dwarves.
Hey Apollo, this was by far one of my most enjoyed battles, if you could play more battles in these kind of made up historical battles that would be awesome!!!
Yes i love itttt!!!! :DDDDD please keep uploading stuff like this! :D
