I'm fairly certain it is a dedicated "series" if you could call that. There are so many of their custom scenarios on this channel it's just frikking amazing. They're a whole lot more fun to watch then pitch battles because of the amount of troops and epic stands.
Viridis It just gets tedious after awhile or for me [and if one person finds it this way then I'm sure there's more thinking that]. I just miss the pitch battles because they're *pitch* battles.
You do have to realise that pitch battles comprise like maybe 5-10% of all the battles ever fought during Medieval times, on which, TATW is based. Sure, with the invent of gunpowder pitch battles became more common but even today we see that 90% of battles in the Syrian (can't call it civil because 80-90% of the fighers aren't even Syrian) war are in fact "siege" battles. So it's quite understandable that there are more siege battles being fought but there are still plenty of pitch battles on the channel.
I've never understood the timed battle thing. Like, you're fighting to the death, then suddenly, "oh, it's 7:00, gotta go to dinner. See you tomorrow."
Armies get tired fairly quickly in real life. Obviously, they cant keep fighting forever. Also, it is almost imposible to fight during the night. Torches are not enough to do the job, they dont provide enough light for the armies to keep fighting.
thanks amillion apollo" ^^ glad u liked the replay, next scenario i make will be crayz, gonna make it sometime this week xD and thank you again pbob for sending this in"
hey synn, would you consider doing some battles from the Silmarillion? might have to adjust some unit stats because things like the elves were much stronger than in the third age. I think it'd be cool to see people like Morgoth or Feanor or Gil Galad
the timer thing was great in the beggining when every armed just clashed in a row of death but it completely killed the bridge taking part for both sides. Anyway one of the greatest first 30 minutes ever in your videos :D
Synn of the DarkCloud did a spectacular job on this scenario, it was amazingly set up and perfectly executed. Especially the way the timer forced aggressive play, rather than a battle of skirmishing for an hour.
a epic vid by Apollo here...large forces on the battlefield can crash a recording..so kudos to him for doing this :D.....I bet he had a few oh-no moments in this battle until the numbers went down :D
pixelated nice job the music was perfect for this battle i thought that i was going to get bored watching this but there never was a moment when i was tired
do the 2nd crusade, fall of Jerusalem, Balien of ibelin defending Jerusalem against saladin and the 200,000 Saracens. ( do smaller than 200,000 unless you want a new computer)
How come this channel is so small with such good content? I mean, I never played a game like this, but I love watching these big wars sooo much. Btw gj on the giggity
Hi there! Something i'd really like to see in third age is a historical battle series with reversed roles of good and bad, for example: Helm's Deep Uruks defend, Rohan attacks, Rhun's cavalry come to save the defenders and trolls come instead of Ents. At Minas Tirith you have orcs defending agains't the hordes of Gondor, with rhunic cav coming instead of rohan and elven archer cav instead of Mumakils, instead of the ghost army coming to save gondor you have a swarm of nazgûls/black nümenorians/mumakils coming as the last ditch effort to save the defenders. I think it would be really fun to see!!!!!
i really like your videos, and i do like the close ups, but more birds eye views would be nice, especially when catapults fire :D keep up the good work :D
This battle replay was amazing! A little unfair, mainly because it takes such a long time to get through the choke points, but still amazing! Please do more replays like this one!
Paladin BoB has out done himself again! He is amazing and should deserve wayyyy more noteriety, without him I wouldn't be able to watch this! Thanks BoB
+KuroGuroChan sweet could be a harad/Rhun v arnor or gondor with Rohan? I wish evil factions had more versatile cav, like warg skirmishers would be amazing
"This won't be over an hour long" A RIP sign pops up. It's okay brother, It's 1:03:18 Hours long. But you know it, Happy little accidents (bob ross) happens. -wink
Omg lol at those two Catapult shots on the bridge at 51:17 (somewhere near there) I was thinking to myself that the defenders would not be able to win unless they get a couple miracle shots, then just as I thought that those shots came from nowhere and landed right in the orcs.Oh how I love Third Age Total War
true.imagine holding that gate with a lot of archers at the wall and a wall of spears in front of the gate with trolls behind just incase there is a mass push.a bit op since the walls cant be destroyed but still good
yea its true, but the settlements are too buggy to edit more if trying to tweak them internally, hence why i made more outer defences and stuff, i also reduced the orc unit size from 220/250 to 180 to be less op, perhaps giving the defenders only 2 armies would have been better :/
Because the 3 troll units were like 1% of the army, the % looked in favor of the good guys for most of the match. The evil armies probably would still have won even if the good guys didn't have a timer.
I dont know why but the battles and the family tree from MTW2 are the best Sega has done. if they could mimic it for every historical total war that be great.
Just decided I would give in some lore info for the curious This battle in the lore would have been a field battle in Northern Arnor a bit further south than Carn Dum, fought between The Witch King himself and opposing him a Massive army from Gondor, so massive there was supposedly not a coastline in Eriador that could fit the entire transport fleet. This army was lead by Prince Earnur of Gondor, and was supported by an army from Lindon lead by Glorfindel. "Realistically" There would be so few Arnorian warriors left(That were in a position to be able to join the battle) that having an army of only Arnorians would simply be impossible in the battle, though it could be assumed there were a few regiments of Arnorian troops sprinkled here and there amongst Gondorians. Ultimately the battle would be a success for the "Good Guys" with the Witch King fleeing to Minas Morgul all the way in mordor after Glorfindel managed to route him. Earnur wanted to chase him down after the Witch King's embarrasment when he scared Earnurs horse near off the battle field making it seem that he was retreating yet he managed to regain control and continue. but Glorfindel advised him not too, saying the whole "He will not be killed by the hands of man" thing.
Man, I've always thought the troops and animations in the Medieval 2 engine looked a lot smoother and organic than they do in Rome 2. Dunno what CA did with their new engine, but they really screwed the pooch.
:P And since Rome 1 has basically the same graphics as M2, does that mean it's good too...? I mean I've always loved it... it was my first TW game, and.. Beserkers... Does anything more need to be said?
I may be mistaken, but I don't think Carn Dûm was ever besieged. I believe that the battle was fought outside the ruins of Fornost. The Arnorian king Avedui (which means last king ironically) sent for aid from Gondor to fight the Angmarim forces but they arrived 2 years too late. They knew that the North-Kingdom had fallen by now, yet they still decided to meet with the forces of Lindon and Imladris led by Glorfindel and possibly Cìrdan...? The Witch King surged out of Fornost to attack the free people's but was almost immediately pushed back by the elves and men. A rout of the orcs began but they became completely beset by the Gondorian cavalry which Eärnur, Prince of Gondor had sent up and around the Hills of Evendim. Every single member of the Angmarim forces was slain and the war ended with the Witch King using his fearful scream to make Eärnur (prince of Gondor) to lose control of his horse he unwillingly fled. He made to pursue him but Glorfindel (of Fellowship of the Ring fame) said "Do not pursue him! He will not return to this land. Far off yet is his doom, and not by the hand of man will he fall." However, Eärnur thought himself disgraced by fleeing before the Witch King and either 7 into his rule as king, the Witch King (who I believe was in Minas Morgul at this time) called him to the Tower of Dark Sorcery for a duel and the king went, as the Witch King had insulted his honour and his steward Mardil was no longer able to restrain him, as he had for the 7 years prior. Eärnur was never seen again.
I like the pressure that the the time limit brings to the attackers but i still feel that in this case it would’ve been nice to see how it could have played out.
I think Mordor would have won that battle if it had continued because they evened out the kill percentage when they were down 15% and they pushed the elves and Arnor back. Pretty impressive. Nice battle :)
Ah, but the whole reason why the percentages were more even was because they had to charge all their troops in a desperate push because of the timer. Though I agree, even if the battle had continued *and* they had not ran all their troops in recklessly the defenders still would have won with the force they had left.
tushigbayar Oh, yes. I am mistaken. I was thinking of the Siege of Esgaroth video he did. A battle of dale would be cool, though, especially if the defenders could somehow fall back to Erebor, as they did in the battle itself.
Wow, awesome battle, as always, but I did notice a few inaccuracies. A) this battle isn't historical. the forces of Angmar were completely destroyed at the battle of fornost only the witch king survived. B) Glorfindel was not Hing King, Gil-Gallad was the last hing king of the Noldor (Galadriel could have claimed the title had she desired it) but overall great scenario and battle replay keep up the great work.
Pixelated Apollo I have a suggestion for your total war game play stuff Maybe you could play games of this with your subscribers if you can in total war because it might be more entertaining sorry if you have already tried this or if it dosnt work because I do not have this game and I am a new subscriber :)
I know it's a long shot but is there any chance of doing a attack on angband that took place in the first age? I know it was destroyed by the gods but hey a couple of huge elves and men armies would mimick those pretty good
Ah, I love when sieges end for no discernible reason. Cuz everyone knows after an hour, armies sieging real settlements gave up if they didn't capture.
This should get it's own dedicated series if Synn of the Darkcloud, and Paladin Bob are just going to keep flushing out these babies.
dont forget kurogurochan"! he is also a great custom scenario modder ^^
It would be awesome darkcloud,Paladin, kuro. To team up with the dac as a gusto. Terrain . I'm not saying they should be is just a suggestion tho.
I'm fairly certain it is a dedicated "series" if you could call that. There are so many of their custom scenarios on this channel it's just frikking amazing. They're a whole lot more fun to watch then pitch battles because of the amount of troops and epic stands.

Huge armies, Awesome settlement, Apollo talking
And popcorn
HEAVEN
I've never understood the timed battle thing. Like, you're fighting to the death, then suddenly, "oh, it's 7:00, gotta go to dinner. See you tomorrow."
u hit the nail on the head, the only reason i put timer was so that it would force aggressive style play ^^
I understand it from a gameplay perspective, but it's just one of those things about video games that otherwise doesn't make any sense
Armies get tired fairly quickly in real life. Obviously, they cant keep fighting forever. Also, it is almost imposible to fight during the night. Torches are not enough to do the job, they dont provide enough light for the armies to keep fighting.
I keep a timer on because my friend is a massive turtle. I like putting his feet to the fire
To be fair this battle would probably take much longer irl
thanks amillion apollo" ^^ glad u liked the replay, next scenario i make will be crayz, gonna make it sometime this week xD
and thank you again pbob for sending this in"
synn could you make a big dwarven custom scenario?
kurogurochan has one actually, we have tested it several times, and i believe well make a replay for it very soon ^^
www.dropbox.com/s/j2d6ohzp1ikn0ww/CarnDumFinal.rar?dl=0
hey synn, would you consider doing some battles from the Silmarillion? might have to adjust some unit stats because things like the elves were much stronger than in the third age. I think it'd be cool to see people like Morgoth or Feanor or Gil Galad
that would be interesting, tbh i dont know very much about silmarillion, nor how i would implement it into thirdage.. but its an interesting idea.
medieval II still has the best battle simulation of all the tw games.
you're goddamn right
nooo mann. Medieval 1212 ad has
plss play of king and men agian.
agreed
but sometime the unit cannot move or stuck at the wall, i hate it
Such an awesome re play!!!! I enjoyed this one. I ate like 12 bean burritos/soft tacos from taco hell during this re play.
the timer thing was great in the beggining when every armed just clashed in a row of death but it completely killed the bridge taking part for both sides. Anyway one of the greatest first 30 minutes ever in your videos :D
Synn of the DarkCloud did a spectacular job on this scenario, it was amazingly set up and perfectly executed. Especially the way the timer forced aggressive play, rather than a battle of skirmishing for an hour.
thanks xD
glad u liked it.
Man, your Third Age vids are truly satisfying to watch Apollo, keep it up! Btw nice stream last night!

halabala manakana that's why I mentioned do less than 200,000, 8,000 vs 40,000
:D you funny movie all about wrong man :D you realy think preasents kill 10 islamic swordsman arabs cant fight but that dont make sense
holy shit. when he showed the settlement all i could see was the huge amount of troops....one of the largest sieges ever... well done
How come this channel is so small with such good content? I mean, I never played a game like this, but I love watching these big wars sooo much. Btw gj on the giggity

Thanks BoB
this is synns scenario and with Apollo managing to make a vid thru all those units...the kudos is for them :D
but also thanks pbob for enabling the dac custom settlements, without you i wouldnt have been able to make this ^^
18:42 That was thee greatest arty volley on Apollos Channel ever!
Maybe the siege of Gundabad next time? It's chronologically accurate :)
or isildurs death? xD
+Synn “of the” DarkCloud or a massive cav battle? Rohan v Rhun
Yeah isildurs death is sent, yeah massive cav battle soon
excellent ^^
+KuroGuroChan sweet could be a harad/Rhun v arnor or gondor with Rohan? I wish evil factions had more versatile cav, like warg skirmishers would be amazing
I've watched a hundred and 2 vids, this is my favorite yet.
Omg the music fits so good! Awesome vid! :D
"This won't be over an hour long" A RIP sign pops up. It's okay brother, It's 1:03:18 Hours long. But you know it, Happy little accidents (bob ross) happens. -wink
Awesomeeeeee!! I almoust watched all pf your 3rd age total war videos and my favourite units elfs and gondor! Very cool video!
10:29. aaaah! this is disgusting. (fainting from pleasure)
That battle has the defenders at such a good advantage holy :0
true.imagine holding that gate with a lot of archers at the wall and a wall of spears in front of the gate with trolls behind just incase there is a mass push.a bit op since the walls cant be destroyed but still good
yea its true, but the settlements are too buggy to edit more if trying to tweak them internally, hence why i made more outer defences and stuff, i also reduced the orc unit size from 220/250 to 180 to be less op, perhaps giving the defenders only 2 armies would have been better :/
true, But it was still an awesome map! keep up the great work:)
thanks man ^^
Yo, that's a nice map you made but i wonder what is the background music in it? Is it in gameplay or did uploader just add it?
This is the best siege battle I've ever seen in third age total war!! just amazing XD

FAVORITE BATTLE EVER. AMAZING artilary shots. favorite team won. closeish ending. just amazing. I wish I could like it 100 times
I love it when you say "ya know". I just love it!!
This is the first video I've ever watched in 1080p :D
One of the best videos u have made
When he tried to say, "They have taken a lot of casualties," It sounded more like, "They have taken a lot of cowsualties."
I decided to replace the onion analogy with, life is like minas tirith, it has layers.
what a battle, cant wait for rise of mordor mod battles
" Pretty good hit here, took out one guy "
Pixelated Apollo on catapults

One of the best sieges on this Channel !
Ohhhhh i am so excited to watch this thanks Paladin Bob and Pixelated apollo
Apollo Says "Not over an hour" sees 3 minutes more "TRIGGERED"
Because the 3 troll units were like 1% of the army, the % looked in favor of the good guys for most of the match. The evil armies probably would still have won even if the good guys didn't have a timer.
Love ur vids pixelated apollo. Keep up the good work! That's one more subscriber! Thanks for no swearing. I hate swearing
awesome vid apollo

Omg thank u so Much Apollo❤️
This channel is a display case of Badassery
The kingdom of arnor, with a lot of arnorian soldiers- pixelated apollo
I dont know why but the battles and the family tree from MTW2 are the best Sega has done. if they could mimic it for every historical total war that be great.
great video! Pixelated Appolo keep up the good work
NASA called . They want their computer back. :3

48:56 LOL you cant hide that from me pixe by saying it quickly i always get it.
amazing battle my favourite along with the river crossing one in medieval 1212AD
Does anything more need to be said?
gandalfthegreatestwizard the only good new two is Shogun 2
Hands down best looking custom settlement
this custom battle gonna be good series to your channel :D
I'm so early again and you still the. Greatest of all time
I may be mistaken, but I don't think Carn Dûm was ever besieged. I believe that the battle was fought outside the ruins of Fornost. I like the pressure that the the time limit brings to the attackers but i still feel that in this case it would’ve been nice to see how it could have played out.
Obviously you'd want to live in the shire. Loads of weed, loads of food, loads of ale and loads of hobbits to boss about. Hahaha
Lol, Synn always putting himself in the absolute best situation on his created maps. Can't say I blame him.
Call To Arms was great! Thanks for the good times.
pls make more of those scenarios i love them its really fun to watch this
Great vid, plz do a life of a soldier on the Orc spearman at 34:20
I think Mordor would have won that battle if it had continued because they evened out the kill percentage when they were down 15% and they pushed the elves and Arnor back.
5 units of those elite trolls is way too op hahaha :)
gandalfthegreatestwizard yeah because the fortress is op
You should do Battle of Dale during the War of the Ring! That would be so awesome!
I think he already has, actually.
Stefan Pyne He did the Battle of the Five Armies but not the Battle of Dale that happened at the same time as Siege os Minas Tirith
tushigbayar Oh, yes. I am mistaken. I was thinking of the Siege of Esgaroth video he did. A battle of dale would be cool, though, especially if the defenders could somehow fall back to Erebor, as they did in the battle itself.
kurogurochan is making the battle of dale as we speak ^^ it will be epic.
Synn DarkCloud Ah, eggcellent. Time to replenish my stocks of popcorn, then.
Pixie poo on point with those hour long third age sieges
PIxie lov e u and your vids keep up the good work 200,000 soon
Wow, awesome battle, as always, but I did notice a few inaccuracies.
A) this battle isn't historical. the forces of Angmar were completely destroyed at the battle of fornost only the witch king survived.
B) Glorfindel was not Hing King, Gil-Gallad was the last hing king of the Noldor (Galadriel could have claimed the title had she desired it)
but overall great scenario and battle replay keep up the great work.
you are right, it wasnt intended to be historical either ^^
+Synn “of the” DarkCloud was the time limit the longest possible?
i believe 1 hour is as long as is possible, but tbh i have not tested going any higher before
Awesome battle, thanks for the replay! Whats the name of that sound track that you loop btw? it sounds epic
Wonderful)))))Hey,Apollo! Will you make any medieval 2 total war battle?
First time we have a timer in med 2 siege battle ... man I would like to see it to the bitter end.
holy shit that's way too many troops but 1 hour long videos are the best
Finished my snacks before you were done talking about army comps. RIP
BEST VID YET (been around since 80,000 )
life of a soldier for that morranon guard spearmen dude
Pixelated Apollo I have a suggestion for your total war game play stuff Maybe you could play games of this with your subscribers if you can in total war because it might be more entertaining sorry if you have already tried this or if it dosnt work because I do not have this game and I am a new subscriber :)
An epic battle of men and elves
great replay loved the battle good job
Awesome trebuchet shots at the beginning in slow motion, and you miss them hitting the ground, why?! 😂
This single siege battle is better than all the Warhammer game. I hope CA return this type of battles.
Not gonna take over an hour, takes over an hour 😂 but that's fine I really enjoy this content and your commentary
epic battle pixelated Apollo
I know it's a long shot but is there any chance of doing a attack on angband that took place in the first age? I know it was destroyed by the gods but hey a couple of huge elves and men armies would mimick those pretty good
Ah, I love when sieges end for no discernible reason. Cuz everyone knows after an hour, armies sieging real settlements gave up if they didn't capture.
