Dude so many people are demo’ing amps through UA Ox boxes now with simulated cabs it’s really hard to get an idea of what things actually sound like. Love your channel because you don’t do that and what we hear in your recordings even though it’s through UA-cam, is authentic and pretty much what you are going to get. Just want to say thank you man and you rock brother! 🙏🏻💪🏻🤘🏻
i completely agree... but i think what it mostly means is recording a cab properly is not that. you see some demos with a 57 right in the center of the cone which sound horribly bright, etc.
I had never heard of Drab Majesty before but loved the chords and tone so much I looked up Dot in the Sky and now have gone through their whole catalog and am hooked!
I bought one of these a couple weeks ago but I'm still waiting for my new cab to arrive so I'm just living vicariously through youtube demos until I can play it 😩
One of many things that attracted me to buying my Friedman BE and SmallBox is being able to get those great tones at a manageable volume, even with 50 and 100 watt amps. Although I've always wanted a JCM 800 and have had my eye on this amp for the reasons you mentioned. It's on my radar, but I haven't quite committed yet. Nice playing and good information. Amp sounds real good.
After growing too old, I found that it's not a surprise. When I was younger, I really thought his studio sound for Enema and TOYPAJ was his Strat with an SD Invader through a Triple Rectifier - turns out they're mostly Les Paul's through a Silver Jubilee. Not many probably know this.
@@guitarexpert2245 just Tom, and live (Mark was using a Mesa Boogie head at one point in 1997). It was reported that their producer Jerry Finn hated the sound of the Mesa Boogie amps, so he always brought his collection of amps to the studio when they were recording. I read in an interview with one of the engineers who worked with blink-182 in the studio that Tom was using mainly Les Pauls through a Silver Jubilee during the recording sessions, although it was not clear as to what extent it was used, but they also used a lot of different amps in the studio. Maybe the Mesa was used for a specific purpose during those sessions? That we probably may not know.
Even as mainly a hard rock and metal guy, I have been in love with Dot The Sky since the first time I heard it when it came out. I’ve seen them a few times live.
Sounds awesome. And that Gretsch Falcon Richard Fortus' signature looks and sound great too. Love your playing on all this, I like how tight you play the rhythm stuff.
You did something that VERY few other people have done with this amp, and that's show off the clean channel, which I thought was non-existent until this video. WOW. It sounded great with that strat! I'm trying to get the Nuno Bettencourt tone (from the 1st Extreme album) at bedroom volumes, which he apparently go by hitting a JCM800 with a RAT pedal. I can handle that part of it (if it truly has those 800 characteristics). That said, he didn't say anything about whole "learning how to play" thing....so I may have a slight hangup with that end of things. But, the JCM800 and a RAT pedal I can definitely handle. Thanks for the great demo, brother!👍

I used to have a JCM 800 2203x head + 1960AV cab. It was the best sounding rig I ever had. From everything ive heard in demos, this SC20 sounds every bit as good.
Killer as always dude! Man, I'd love to see what you can do with the Orange Rockerverb 50 MkIII, the old Thunderverb and so on. All of the Mastodon riffs... Also, slow car fast anology = best analogy.
I’m late to this party, but as a sub > your channel, you’re band’s lucky to have you & that FMan GPearl nearly stole the show, THX for turning us onto that! 👏
Killer demo and playing, as usual! I had one of these, way too loud for home use - unless you keep the master low. Pretty much same as a 2204 - with smaller iron and less punch.
Around The Fur sounded menacing, I have the mini Jub version of this 20watt series but I love this JCM 800 version. I tried it at GC once and loved it. (Even if it wasn’t my gear/pedalboard with it)
Sounds like it's bigger brother to me.🤷 Always wanted to try one of these as it would be the perfect size for my small home studio. Excellent riffage, as always. 👍🤘
I have this amp and really like it. I like your videos Zach because you set the amps in their sweet spots. This amp comes alive when the pre-amp is set between 6 and 8. I’ve seen other reviewers including a big one in England that set the preamp at 12oclock and say it’s just a good amp…. But they aren’t even hitting the sweet spot.
Definitely! I think it could hang in a band practice situation depending on the band, but if your band is pretty damn loud, it's asking a lot of the amp. When I tried it out, I could see it working in a pinch, but the volume was maxed out and it wouldn't have been able to clean up much when you're pushing it that hard. Still a killer amp, and for playing at home, I'd rather play this 20W than the 100W head. Thanks for checking out the video!
I am personally not knowing a lot about those amps, but I just keep coming back and watch this video because of his amazing guitar solo. the way he played make me fall in love with Marshall.
Better than the 100w- I don’t know it depends on what you need but that amp sounds awesome! I’m still loving that Gretsch, too. So cool. And the black custom LP w uncovered buckers always makes me smile.
Excellent video showing a wide range of this amp's capabilities! I have one and i'm very happy with it. Your drummer must pound like the incredible hulk because these are pretty loud, almost a little too loud for a basement. I absolutely love that beautiful black Gretsch, and it sounds killer through the SC20.

I always preferred single channel JCM 800s. I also preferred the 50 watt to the 100. I loved the Jubilee when they released it in '87, especially the 50 watt. 100 watts is seldom ideal, 50 is much better, and sometimes even 50 is too much.
Billy Corgan ran it in the low input with a big muff for an iconic Siamese Dream sound and I wonder if the 20w version would be able to do the same thing?
I just love listening to you play iconic riffs through all these great amps! Your tone always sounds freaking amazing!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Took me forever to figure it out, but JCM800 and 800-style tones are where it’s at. Perfect for clean and gain.
I've had mine for about ten years. In that time I've bought other amps and drifted around a bit but I always keep coming back
I mean I don't know about clean but gain for sure!
Best Part of the clean is when you hear that volume knob roll up
I played a JCM 800 for years. It's a lot more versatile than most people think.
Agreed, but i found after couple years of using it, that there's something missing....usually some TS to go along with it 😁
