Idea 2 is pretty "promising". It could improve air conditioning control. Nowadays temperature, humidity and content of certain substances (like CO2 or flammable gas) is measured in centralized points (I gess because the cost) so it ends with some rooms very cold, other rooms very hot, some of them spreading a gas leak to the next, etc. With cheap sensors it could be measured in many points in each room and be controlled accoridng to those measurements in a more intelligent way, for example each room could have it's own temperature. Or many sensors could be connected to a more sofisticated air control system that calculates that it doesn't need to send more hot air to the upper levels because the hot air in the lower leves is gonna go up in 3 minutes.
