Thanks for that. Is there a way to pin this video on refrigerator door so I could see it again at least once a day for a reminder
Well i pinned the comment so anything is possible i guess
I got a guy for that
I’m definitely writing notes
Well, actually...get a cheap tablet, um, make a copy of the video, (Don't tell Jon I told you to do this) and make it loop. tape it to your fridge door?
@@DarkGloComics Yeah. Well thats the way to do it 😄
I once heard practice doesn't make "perfect" but permanent. i feel like this exemplifies that well.
Perfect practice makes perfect.
All practice and no play makes Jon a dull boy
practice makes progress
Practice makes Progress
@@lukehanson6077 progress in something for sure but maybe not in the exact way you wanted at first lol
Jon was HELLA slept on as a rapper. I constantly have people ask “who is this!?” while I’m bumping his music in my car, or at work. Dropped some fire bars and now he’s dropping knowledge on everyone and putting us onto game. F’ing Legend.
same here!
i forget his last name jon ...i remember him tho
Wayne... just came to me hahah
That last point "Don't buy more gear" the amount of people that I talk to that say "if I just had (insert piece of gear) my set up will be perfect" is crazy. Learn what you have inside and out and you will get ideas from your head into the world faster.
Best comment!!!! Correct work with what you have !!!!! Stay blessed!!!
Facts, I kept using the same sound over and over again I started hearing different melodies each time that made the instrument sound completely different.
very real. Great video man
Learning how to learn is something i wish more people talked about. Well done
I'm a composer, not a beat maker, but the points you describe here are such gold that really anyone wanting to get into music can take notes here
you are both still artists
massively appreciate these videos clarence. youre really sparking my passion for making music again
This guy think he is a gangsta?
Dude it's Lance wtf? Don't disrespect the guy put his name up in lights 🙌
@@hendrx and clarence's parents have a real good marriage.
Thank you for helping me. I find your words incredibly supportive and wise.
I was jsut sitting down and having a terrible session today. Sometimes there are those days where nothing good is coming to mind and it can be really frustrating especially when you are working on a commission project. Watching this video definitly made me feel better and I think it's important to know that you can absolutely walk away and take a breath. The music isn't goin anywhere and sometimes we need a fresh brain before getting into a creative space . This is especially important for when you get home from a long day at work and you put a ton of pressure on yourself to use your time "valuably".
Looking up tutorials as you need them vs. trying to learn it all at once is very effective. It's learning by experience vs. memorizing steps.
Deep down I know a lot of this stuff already, but it's always great to hear it from someone who's got their sh*t together. As inspiring as it is with what you are doing already, this also made me laugh so keep 'em coming!
This is just what I needed, man. I remember the days when I had a shitty laptop, Reason with stock sounds, and a cheap midi keyboard. I was so much more productive and didn't have a care in the world. Now I just bounce around different hardware and DAW's, judging my creations and lack of productivity. Time to take a few steps back and get back to what's most important.
Yep just focus on getting the idea out and dont worry so much about how that happens
This actually hits pretty hard, because for the majority of my life, I‘ve substantially limited myself with the pathological urge to figure out everything on my own, which slowed down any kind of process by a ridiculously large amount.
I‘ve recently stumbled upon a supposed quote of Mozart who said something like „I wouldn’t have been able to compose all of this without studying the great minds before me“.
On the other hand, someone HAS to have pioneered a specific creative field with no real point of reference, so I wonder if this was just an incredibly slow gradual process or if divergent thinkers with unfathomably high intelligence and creative talent basically created ingenious works of art from nothing.
every artist takes inspiration from others, whether they’re aware of it or not
@@Samuel-ek7zc And what about the first ones?
This dude is so underrated every single song he puts out is pure gold. Now he's blessing us with the knowledge?!?! 😳 You the man John Wayne!! 🙌🔥
didnt click out of the vid as soon as he smashed my whole world view on greatness within the first 9 seconds. im now the best
Greatest advice I’ve been trying to internalize over the past few years is accepting when I suck at something, and not letting that awareness turn into judgement and self-negativity!
Very interesting! I understand from this video that I have to buy the Octatrack and focus on specific aspects on it instead of watching 2-hours generalist tutorials
With something as open ended as the Octatrack you really have to go in with an idea because it's capable of being a lot of things to a lot of people.
I can’t stop giggling at the thought of making variations of hot crossed buns for eternity
Jon 4 President, heat advice dude - especially about being bad/not being afraid to make mistakes.
Please don’t shut up, and please do more of these. I feel a lot of people who try to do videos like this just make very bland, vague points. You actually made sense and gave me something to think about here.
thank u thank u thank u
I love your messages Jon, thanks, for bringing these to the people
This was great. Needed this. Appreciate it Jon 💪🏽
"Don't be afraid to be bad, that's the only thing that eventually let's you be good"

This channel is a true blessing. Hope to see you reach millions of subs! Such an inspiration!
my man hit all the points, truly blessed
this was very helpful thanks man would love to see more advice like this
So cool seeing you in my YT feed after being a fan of your music for a few years, great vid mate!
From my experience, your observation about hardware is spot on. Hardware has its place but has always hindered me making music. I think one of the reasons hardware sales have gone up is because of content creators. They need something visual to make a video. A DAW screen isn’t good for making social media content.
Appreciate the wisdom Jon!
These are the most important tips you can give a newbie.
Fantastic video. I love you man. Your music always inspires me to create mine.
This video is awesome. Love to see Jon make beats. But a video like this every once in a while would be great!

I don't think i've ever heard someone spit so many straight facts in such a short amount of time
Love you dude
Pure gold dust man! This is the kind of advice everybody needs to hear, across all different stages of learning any skill. Even the stuff you already know, you need to be reminded of to keep checking yourself and acting on it.
thanks man. I needed this.
Really appreciate those insights, man!
