The thing I hated in season 6 was how Carrie made a day when Charlotte should of been the centre of attention in the group about yet another shitty breakup. Really? She couldn’t keep it to herself for one fucking day?! Then right there she says that that day will be known as the day she got arrested?! Um NO! It drove me crazy! Charlotte loves Harry and was overjoyed to get her proposal after all the heartache. As soon as Charlotte said her news Carrie should of said they can talk about her thing tomorrow. Then she went bunny boiler on Berger’s friends. What the fuck have they got to do with anything?! Let them enjoy their night and leave them alone! I will say I lost it at the cop who quoted the fucking post it when he said he couldn’t just let her off

Carrie’s storyline felt rushed in 6B. I think MPK wanted to end it with a happy ending for all the girls. I would’ve preferred Carrie happy being single at the end. She never really learned from her relationship mistakes.

To me, Carrie and Big deserve each other. People forget that Carrie was toxic as hell too, so it makes sense her emotional intelligence is -1000 and ends up with the man who treated her like crap. You can't be disappointed if you don't expect anything from her in the first place.

I watched SATC many many times over and over again. My opinion changed a lot, but I really liked older Charlotte more than the new one... Miranda is just genius! Carrie's storyline is great but can we please talk about Carrie as a best friend, I really think that CArrie is not a good friend to the others.

She’s a bit self absorbed but that’s bc she’s a writer who’s job is to constantly interrogate her feelings. Samantha is super selfish and self absorbed but the fandom is totally accepting of her being that way but not carrie. Actually all the women are pretty much obsessed with their own lives and feelings but they all show up for each other when needed. I really hate the narrative that Carrie is especially horrible when she gets each girl better than the others do

I"ve always thought SJP looked so pretty in S6. Her make-up is so great, she just glows. For some reason in the reboot her make-up is so dark, especially her eyes. I wish they would do it in these pretty pinks they used in S6.

To me what i dont like about the ending is that Big comes to save Carrie and it feels implied that without him showing up she probably would have stayed. Given that the show centres around strong female characters, i would have so preferred her to "rescue" herself and have big swoop in

Also, Big didn’t do any work to improve himself or change. I’m rewatching the show now and Carrie just slowly gives up on everything that she wanted and accepts Big’s terms for a relationship. They are the two characters who never seem to grow or change for the better over the course of the whole show. It also didn’t make sense that the entire show was centered around the friendships between 4 single women yet ends with all the women settling down in very cliche, romcom esque endings. I didn’t expect them all to end up single or anything but it just didn’t make sense with the show as a whole.

I always loved the finale of SATC, and when people bring up any negative stuff about Big, my reply is always that he’s not great but he is exactly what Carrie needs. She’s no picnic, most of the time I think she’s a nightmare! He’s not a monster, and considering she’s so set on a city lifestyle, complicated relationship dynamics, lots of money for shoes, etc., like, why the hell NOT Big?

I really didn't want Carrie to end up with Big because of how he spent years messing her around.
Throughout the show, it felt like Big was allergic to treating her right. He ran off to marry Natasha and live his beige life and then started whining to Carrie about everything being beige right before cheating on his wife with Carrie.
He never wanted to commit and it's like he had a special radar to detect whenever Carrie might be starting to forget about him and focus on being happy.
The crowning moment for me was in this season when he tried to come back like nothing happened. I was happy that Carrie screamed at Big and told him to get lost and take his indecisive, manipulative tactics with him. Even if Carrie ended up leaving the Russian, her screaming at Big meant she was finally ready to choose herself instead of letting Big hold power over her.
I felt betrayed when Miranda of all people told Big to go get Carrie because Miranda was always the one advocating for Carrie to dump Big and stop running after a permanently unavailable man like a pathetic little victim

I love the ending bc it feels like the characters who put in "the work" succeeded (Charlotte and Miranda both went through long periods of introspection and compromise to end up Withe the lives they wanted) and Samantha realized she was never going to compromise for anyone. Carrie never really worked on herself so the end implies that her and Big get to be locked in their never ending cucle forever. Carrie wasn't willing to be honest with herself or ultimately to change her behaviors, so of course ahe got the "happy ending" that was actually tragic. Writing -wise I think it was a great way to satisfy the audience with and end that was happy on the surface, but more of a mixed bag when you really thought about it.

I just finished rewatching this series, I have different prospective from most of the comments. When I watched the show in my late twenties, my favorite character was Miranda. I was single at the time and studying in graduate school, this rational, cynical career woman really resonated with me. Now I am in my late forties and married, I appreciate the complex character of Carrie. She was a hopeless romantic, more romantic than Charlotte, she wouldn’t marry a guy like Trey just because he looked perfect from the outside and fit her list. In fact, she didn’t even have a list, she dated all types of people. She was also true to her heart, a bit volatile and chaotic, but it fit her identity as a creative writer. I like her fun and childish side, Big calling her kid was very fitting. She was the least financially savvy and materialistic of the four. She genuinely loved fashion and beautiful shoes, not because they are expensive can be used as a status symbol like Samantha trying to buy a four thousand dollar Berkin bag. I also liked Big much more than the first time watching the show. I don’t think Big intentionally treated Carrie badly, he fell for her a lot slower than she fell for him, he wasn’t ready to give her what she wanted in the first 2 seasons. I think he was really in love with her after he divorced Natasha, but Carrie moved on to other relationships. It’s understandable that Carrie wouldn’t sit around waiting for him to commit, they just had bad timing until the very end. They became good friends, Big offered Carrie money when she was about to be evicted, and Carrie took care of him when he had the heart surgery. In the end Big first consulted Carrie’s friends, if she was happy with the Russian he would disappear and never bother her again. That’s a noble thing to do to put Carrie’s happiness first. When someone was so reluctant to commit said you are the one, you can probably trust him it meant something. Not like the ‘nice guy’ Aiden tried to evict Carrie as soon as he failed to tie her down.

We kinda abuse the term toxic nowadays. How come that by focusing on inclusion, acceptance etc we get less accepting, more shallow, less nuanced, less realistic and less mature towards humanity? Weird. People are so focused on appearing good and moral that they slide on the surface of things.

I loved how all the girls (except Carrie) had such amazing character development and storylines in season 6. Charlotte, Miranda and Sam all progressed outside of the stereotypes they initially portrayed and came so far from where they started. I was so happy about how their stories ended. Was disappointed that Carrie showed no development and stayed, in my opinion, immature and self centered. I never hated Carrie, but as the series went on I was way more interested in the storylines of the other three. They just showed more growth and depth, to me at least, so it became more interesting to watch them and much less interesting to watch Carrie.

Charlotte's wedding dress lives rent free in my mind (same way Carrie's Richard Tyler floral dress from the s3 finale does) and if I ever get married I want my dress to look exactly like that, hell I don't care if I don't get married I just want a dress like that lol.

  • @victoriaedwards2301
    @victoriaedwards2301 Рік тому +8

I think the reason why the ending is unsatisfying in terms of Carrie’s character is because the way they portrayed her image and what her legacy has become, didn’t match the ending that she got. Charlotte, for the most part has been consistent throughout the series. She wants love, marriage, and the baby carriage. Even with Miranda, she was always subconsciously looking for a man that understood her which she got in Steve, with Carrie she was looking for this all encompassing consuming love, but she was never realistic about it, and she looked for it in every man that she was ever with which to me, isn’t smart. I wish she ended the series single because like she says, in the end, the most fulfilling relationship you can have is with yourself, and I felt like Carrie was never a fully formed person to begin with her identity was wrapped up in the men she was with. Even when we got single Carrie, she was always preoccupied with her latest fling or the relationship that she just got out of, we never truly saw her for who she was except for season one episode one. Everything after meeting Big was a male centered woman.

Big and Carrie's relationship is basically "I want you but you don't want me" ALL THE TIME.
I was so mad she ended up with someone who treated her like crap.
Like the show felt so ahead of it's time and them being an endgame was destroying that.
It's like she absolutely needed a man to be happy and she had no other option than the toxic one... She's never learnt to LOVE HERSELF FIRST to find the perfect match and be appreciated for who she was.

Big was a 45 year old divorcée who already had a marriage fall apart that he thought he’d hold on to for the rest of his life. But he drifted away and then cheats on her and divorces. He is not going to enter a relationship with Carrie as neurotic as she was and rush to get married to her just bc Carrie (a woman who’s never been in love yet) demands it. I love them coming full circle together & her going through a journey to become mature enough for him and him going through a journey to realize no Carrie is everything to me, but the narrative that he abused her is crazy. He was just jaded in love and stuck in his ways

I actually like the necklace detail. I love this TikToks (I don’t remember the profile tho) that do style analysis for each episode and something they noted is that when she starts going out with the Russian she’s more elegant style wise and she wears lots of pearl necklaces and stuff like that. So we don’t see her wearing her Carrie necklace throughout the whole duration of her relationship (I think) until she finds it again in Paris.

Apparently Darren Star wasn’t happy with the s6 ending of all the girls finding ‘love’ thus a so called happy ending. Meaning that if you don’t, then it isn’t! The final voice over of Carrie stating about the most and significant relationship is the one you have with yourself (which I truly believe) but if she had said this and being happily a single girl would have meant more to the show and us, the audience. Not everyone is blessed with a god damn ‘soul mate’ and that should be celebrated in itself 🥳

I just finished the show two days ago for the first time. The first 3 seasons I HATED Big. But as the show went on, I felt like Big and Carrie developed and refined some of their more negative traits. Carrie and Big have crazy chemistry, and Carrie will always be bored with someone that doesn't have the kind of spark that she always had with Big. She needs someone to keep things interesting, and even if someone is perfect on paper, it won't work if there isn't a slight taste of toxicity in the mix. Plus Big really does admire Carrie, and there is always a playful push and pull with them to keep the relationship going long term. I think it was fitting, and Carrie ending up with a wooden, cookie cutter perfect guy would have not been realistic.

The problem with Carrie she just never seemed to learn, Big fooled her so many times, gave her nothing for a really long time but she was so enchanted anytime he seemed to give a damn about her. I think her romance with Petrovsky would have put her in the right place, actually I liked him because he was so realistic and that's what always Carrie needed but I feel like Carrie actually did not love him in the first place but the opportunity he could have given: financial stability and someone in the middle between Aidan and Big....Aidan was his nicest guy and she treated him like crap and Big who never seemed to be committed to her but still Carrie waited for him..... Plus never forget Paris was an important milestone in Carrie's life and Petrovsky offered to move with him to Paris.
Anyway I kinda hate Carrie ended up with Big but if you think about it...They totally deserved each other.
