Very Good video. I bought mine from Sears in 2016. No problems whatsoever. Price was $99 on sale. It is kind of bulky to lift and position but doable by myself. Traveled from CA to to WA a dozen times. The price and size is outstanding compared to other brands. It is rugged and I am glad I got it. I don't understand your statement about 50 lbs though. That hasn't been my experience at all.
@@ericyoung772 Thank you! I only used it a few times because it was shaky otherwise. The weight created some stability. I finally sold it to someone off Nextdoor last year.
This box is wonderful. I crossed 30+ States in the USA (over 10k miles in a year) with that attached to my Corolla on a Thule roof mount and it had no problem doing 90mph+ in the many hours the road was empty in the hot desert. I was taking around 50lbs of luggage and other things (I added blankets to the surrounding and tied it with light hooks so that the luggage wouldn't crack the black plastic. The corolla is low enough that it barely affected stability, and I didn't notice a whole lot of extra fuel (and it's hard to tell exactly how much was due to the air drag and how much was due to the bike in the bike rack in the rear, and all my luggage inside the car. For a 10+ year old car the corolla excelled at every aspect and this Sears box was definitely the best choice
That’s awesome! With my current car, an Alltrack, stability shouldn’t be as affected, either. I haven’t used the box in a while and will probably sell it.
I can appreciate your attitude about Sears, I feel the same way, I just purchased the same cargo rack from a garage sale, no locking mechanism, 50 bucks, however I will sort that out, My question is was there a metal plate inside and outside the box, I have one plate for each bracket.
That’s awesome! I still haven’t used this box since 2017. My dad dropped it when I got it, so it was too rough to return. Maybe I should list this box online and advertise it as featured in a UA-cam video with 50K views!
I found one in my town, used one time, in near pristine condition for $40! Going to use it tomorrow for a 2500 mile road trip I make every summer, this is the first time with a carrier. Interested to see how it goes!
@@anonymoususer1824 no problem at all. What I would consider to be normal amount of wind noise. Fuel economy was within expected range going 70 mph attached to the roof of our 2020 Nissan Rogue. But going 80 once we hit Nebraska... Oof. Huge fuel economy hit
Taxedtodeath If you watch my recent update video, you’ll see that Boxy is living a quiet life. His keys are still around, thankfully, but Boxy is just relaxing.
Actually not difficult. Today, I took a picture of the lock, went to a lock shop, gave them the numbers off the lock and they made me a new key. $9.50 + tax (& a copy of my DL). Didn't even have to bring in the cargo box.
can also get them on e-trailer. Thule actually made this box, and the lock cylinder is the same for Thule, so you can use that number, and order replacement on e-trailer!
This video has gotten a surprising amount of views. I'll need to search around to see if any sites promoting the X-Cargo are using this video or something.
Always use side straps as well. Crossbars can fail.. I've seen videos saying that so I'm using side straps to the side trails for extra protection. And thanks for the video!
I zip tied over the crossbar to my rails in two directions in front and back of each of the crossbars. I checked everything at each fuel stop. No problems!

All sears boxes were msde by Thule....fun fact
Thx for the review. Very informative
I’m glad you liked it! I haven’t used Boxy in years. Maybe I could get some cross bars for my Alltrack and use it again.

Thank you! I don’t remember the plates except that there was at least one for each corner.
Lots of good info.
We appreciate the video! Love the crocs as well!
Dude has the chillest accent ever
I got a used one for $50! Woohoo! I love it!

@@scottkriegerjr.6205 hey I have my first trip with mine tomorrow. How did your trip go?

Nice tip! Thanks
Thanks for the video. I will most likely be getting this one
Germain Gonzalez You’re welcome! I haven’t used Boxy since December 2017. She’s just been vibing in my basement.
Why do you say it needs at least 50 lbs in it al all times? Is there a problem driving with it empty?
It shakes a lot. I haven’t used the cargo box in five years.
Don't ever lose your keys. It will be very hard to find a replacement. Sears does not carry parks or lock mechanism anymore.

Thanks for bringing up Sears and their financial troubles.... They need to bring their stores up to a modern day look.... Sadly.

The maker of other boxes you reference is pronounced like "tool-y" not "thool"
Otherwise, pretty good review.
Have to carry 50 lbs at all times? That makes zero sense.
craig march That’s why Boxy is living a relaxing life away from the spotlight now!
It sure doesn't give me warm and fuzzies about the design of it. . . .
Voice sounds like Bruce on family Guy

I saw crocks. Ewwww.
And you mentioned opening a box but there was no woman in the entire....ohhh you meant, ohhhhhh.
