Chrissie Hynde is one of the best examples of a rockin':woman who paid her dues in a big way, endured hard times and did it her way. I love her spirit always!
One of the all time greatest underrated guitar solos is that absolute masterpiece Robbie McIntosh throws down on The Pretenders' 1984 hit Middle Of The Road.
@@vernpascal1531 There is plenty of real music now, and there is more choice than ever. The only difference now is what makes it to the Billboard charts. If you ignore that garbage and look at solid indie bands the great music is endless.
Indeed! I think the best song to showcase her absolutely stunning vocal talents is "If There Was a Man" from the movie the The Living Daylights. It is much underrated, just like Chrissie, in my opinion. You can thank musical master John Barry for arranging that one.
YES !! I was there in 1983 ( 20 years young and wild !! ) MTV growing up in the east bay towns of Pittsburg & Antioch...now 55 WOW !! This tune is Hall of FAAME !
One of my alltime fave bands, with all the different personel changes over the years she never fails to get the great guitarist,s that keep that Pretenders sound.
Who were the protesters that came into the club with all the signs and shut the club down??? Love this song, I hear it over and over lol 😊 and Brass in Pocket 😉
a reporter asked Noel Gallagher If His teenage daughters Aspire to be Miley Cyrus , Gallagher replied 'I Fuckin' hope Not ,I'd rather they aspire to be Chrissie Hynde ' . . .Amen Brother Amen . . . .
One of the greatest rock songs of all time. Without a doubt the best telecaster playing solo in all rock (even better than Keith) Killer solo!!!! Bad ass!!!
About 78 we used to go to North lake and watch bands play at a picnic table water behind power plant across the water it reflects across the lake.Later one of those garage bands became Pantera. My wild teen years were great.Dallas area grapevine lake was one huge party.Always lived near it a small town of 6000 Between Dallas and ft. Worth. When I moved in 97 I drove home every weekend from Tulsa. Now It just isn't the same. All the roads going to the lake were dirt. really miss those times and people many who are no longer with us.Sometimes I remember the cat and mouse with police we didn't realize a KZEW ROCK sticker was a giveaway!
Chrissie Hynde and the boys hit #19 in Billboard, 2-11-84. Didn't think Chrissie needed to put some random harmonica on it. God bless ya, for postin' it.. Thanx! Have a great week!
HOW GREAT IS THIS SONG......HOW GREAT ARE THE PRETENDERS......CHRISSIE HYNDE IS THE KIND OF WOMAN THAT I COULD REALLY ENJOY BEING AROUND......BECAUSE SHE APPEARS TO BE A DEEP AND TALENTED HUMAN BEING.....(I WOULD NEVER HARASS YOU CHRISSE).............
If I remember right, this was broadcast "live" on MTV New Year's Eve 1983. Sad to see that it wasn't live at all, but even so it made a huge impression as a kid. I never forgot that feeling of being in the presence of such feminine power.
I don't know about 2019, but, in 2020, they put out an excellent new studio album called 'Hate For Sale'. I bought it on CD and it's excellent! It stands up to their old stuff.
The middle of the road is trying to find me I'm standing in the middle of life with my plans behind me Well I got a smile for everyone I meet As long as you don't try dragging my bay Or dropping the bomb on my street Now come on baby Get in the road Oh come on now In the middle of the road, yeah In the middle of the road you see the darnedest things Like fat guys driving 'round in jeeps through the city Wearing big diamond rings and silk suits Past corrugated tin shacks full up with kids Oh man I don't mean a Hampstead nursery When you own a big chunk of the bloody third world The babies just come with the scenery Oh come on baby Get in the road Oh come on now In the middle of the road, yeah The middle of the road is no private cul-de-sac I can't get from the cab to the curb Without some little jerk on my back Don't harass me, can't you tell I'm going home, I'm tired as hell I'm not the cat I used to be I got a kid, I'm thirty-three Baby, get in the road Come on now In the middle of the road Yeah Songwriters: Christine Hynde

uhuh...Santa Barbara County Bowl 1980...2nd row pit seats...still to this day perhaps the best concert I have ever experienced...and still some of most danceable music on the planet...the next week i saw B52s, 999,Talking Heads and DEVO at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
DIfreighter watcher DIfreighter, San Diego is right this IS what radio sounded like in the 80's. What you're hearing is the studio cut from the single in '82 then added to the '84 album Learning to Crawl. What you're SEEING is a directed video for MTV / VH1. --- Agree though, live music is a whole another magic. Especially small club venues. This exact studio recording came out when I was 20. Heavy rotation on KDF in Nashville for many years. Great repeating driving bass line, amazing twany? lead over Chrissie's funky guitar riff. Very original. And of course the sexiest voice in rock and roll!
So, just realized that what I wrote starting with "great repeating bass line..." I was thinking of their song "My City Was Gone". Another heavily played song from same album. And I just found a true live version on UA-cam. You need to check it out.
This song belongs on the list of "most perfect pop songs ever made". And, with the possible exception of Stevie Nicks, Chrissie might have the sexiest singing voice of any woman ever!
I love finding underrated guitar solos. this one is in my top five. mannford mann's cover of blinded by the light and Billie idol's rebel yell, david Bowie's putting out fire with gasoline and lou Reed's heroin ( off the animal recording).
she was badass and still is,, a lot of women talent back then for sure :) , Her , Pat Benetar, Stevie Nicks, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Grace Slick, Anne and Nancy Wilson , Annie Lennox ,, man i loved my 80s :)
Chrissie Hynde is one of the best examples of a rockin':woman who paid her dues in a big way, endured hard times and did it her way. I love her spirit always!
Chrissie went from Akron to the UK, formed the band, James & Pete both OD, and she's still kicking ass. I love & admire this incredible Woman!
Me too!!!Christy is awesome and a great performer!!!she gets into it with her swagger and defiance only she had]]!]
One of the all time greatest underrated guitar solos is that absolute masterpiece Robbie McIntosh throws down on The Pretenders' 1984 hit Middle Of The Road.
Yup. This what real music is before Heavy Metal,Rap ,and vapid pop took over.
Absolutely!!!!! Agreed. But! I must say Back on the Chain Gang is my absolute favorite. The change from major to minor slays.
Undies!
true

She is still killing it. Great show in Dallas two nights ago
That’s Rock n Roll !!
You're in a class by yourself Chrissie , well done.
Indeed!

Fantastic lyrics in a genuine footstomping classic. Such a distinctive sound!
Chrissy is a force of pure raw talent ..she has held her own personal style in the music industry for so long and still rocking today..
This is one of my all-time favorite Telecaster riffs!
YES !! I was there in 1983 ( 20 years young and wild !! ) MTV growing up in the east bay towns of Pittsburg & Antioch...now 55 WOW !! This tune is Hall of FAAME !
We used to play this in a cover band I was in a million years ago. It's one of those tunes as a drummer that just fires you up! Loved playing this 💪💪
Thank you, Chrissy Hynde for my teen years. Your words were of and still are an inspiration to me. God bless you.

This is probably my favorite Pretenders single.

This was the first video that inspired me to buy the cassette. "Learning to Crawl" is still a fantastic album, one of my faves.
The band made magic. Such catchy yet intelligent music. Hooks and lines.
I like this Band more now than I did years ago.
Isso sim é 80, cada um dançava do jeito que queria !!!
I think at one point that guitar solo was in Guitar Magazines 100 greatest guitar solos of all time, as it should be.
The best female rock artist I know.
I’ve always liked Chrissie’s vocals & attitude - and the music, of course!😘😍😜😝🇺🇸🇺🇸😊💙😃
That rock-a-billy guitar sounded cool. Like... really snappin' daddy-o

I agree with you about her voice...her's and Stevie's have that certain "edge" that gives me a Paradise Lost pain deep in my heart.
Still one of their best jams from the 80's!! Where are they now in 2019??

I started playing in rock and jazz bands in the 70's. When I first heard these guys and Chrissie, I wondered "how I could get in that band?" :)
Probably just as well...
Chrissie Hynde was 100% right with these lyrics. Great song.
The Pretenders' songs always make you want to get up and dance.
Martin Chambers is such a creative drummer with a great sound.
Ils ont du s’éclater en jouant ça ! Un morceau Rock 🎸 fire🔥d’anthologie !!!! Et Chrissie qui assure jusqu’au bout ! Une sacrée rockeuse 😍

This song belongs on the list of "most perfect pop songs ever made". And, with the possible exception of Stevie Nicks, Chrissie might have the sexiest singing voice of any woman ever!
