Yup! So true but it’s not easy to find sweet mustard in every country. And by sweet mustard I’m not talking about the chemical yellow mustard you find in the US 😊
when i realised it should be a weißwurst i got a little sick for a moment.... weißwurst with ketchup on top of it seems like a crime to me 😂😂😂 i am austrian, living like 5 mins away from the bavarian border so i grew up with a lot of bavarian culture😅😅
I miss Germany! I only went for a week this past February but I fell in love with the country and especially Garmisch-Partenkirchen where I stayed and skied! es tut mir leid was never used. Thankful for the German people for being so nice and welcoming! I have some wurst from Aldi here in the US. Also have some Curry Ketchup and sweet Bayern mustard. I love watching your videos!
That looked like a very nice place, but again, you would have a blast in Milwaukee Wisconsin and the surrounding area! Beer garden season just started here. There are well established beer gardens as well as traveling beer gardens.
The food looked very good. There are cities in the US that are enriched in German background. Milwaukee Wi is one of them. We also have a three day Germanfest at the end of July. Come visit. Enjoy your vlogs. D and J
Wish we had something like that here locally as I was stationed in Germany and also lived in the German part of Switzerland for 8 years, I also lived in the USA for 14 years but now home in the UK however I do cook a lot of German dishes
just made fried potato and onions with andoulle sausage with polish saurkraut on the side. real saurkraut, cabbage and salt, no vinegar as US companies use. also used to make red cabbage and used alot of fresh apples to give it a little sweetness
As a Chicagoan, it pains me to say that Milwaukee, Wi is the most German town in America. Would love to see you visit and experience their food and bier. It’s the closest I’ve gotten since leaving Germany.

Hallo, Guten Tag. I have my great grandma Gardner's hand written German cookbook, some of it is written in German. My husband's family is German also. I cook a lot of German foods for my family. My family prefers spicy stone ground mustard and/or vinegar based potato salads. My husband's German sir name is Erchenbrecht.
Love those old recipes, which can be more like vague instructions. I have a Swabish cookbook from the 1930s. It's great because it's all basic ingredients, but no pan sizes, no temp to bake at. I guess you're just supposed to know!
I’m so sorry Helen was a disappointment. Y’all went to the wrong restaurant. You must go back and eat at Bodensee it was amazing!!! Real German cooks. Blessings from Oklahoma ❤
I make awesome Fleisch Rouladen based on my Austrian Muti's recipe. It may be a winter dish, but now I want to make it and everything else you had right now.
Sauerkraut balls are originally from Akron Ohio. I've never have seen them with cheese. When I make them they have sauerkraut, bread crumbs, eggs and finely diced ham. Then you roll them in egg and more bread crumbs. Firm them up in the freezer and deep fry them
Fellow Akronite, here. And my parents are German, so I've been a few times. The only place I've ever seen sauerkraut balls has been in the Akron-Canton area. Anthe's restaurant made the best!
do they typically eat sausage with ketchup and yellow mustard in germany? id assume brown mustard only for some reason. headed to berlin and munich for oktoberfest this year! super excited to experience your culture.
Yeah, White Sausage with ketchup anywhere near it would probably get you deported in Bavaria. I'm not bavarian but even I was appalled at that sight. Have fun on your trip, you're visiting the absolute extremes of the Germany-spectrum 😂
Sauerkraut-Balls nö gibts nicht aber kann man machen fritiert mit Käse und Schinken, das geht und wird wohl auch schmecken - nichts jedoch geht über Labskaus - sofort bei der "Invasion" einführen
Ever since I had weisswurst in Bavaria on a trip to Germany in the early '90s, I have been looking for weisswurst in the U.S. with no luck - and there it is in South Carolina! Who'd have thunk it!
I live near the land of brats - Wisconsin made and along with cheese. Near Monroe / New Glarus Wisconsin. Yes I know - mostly Swiss transplants. But they make good brats and cheese up here. thank you for the video. Sadly no good German restaurants around here any more. The last good one closed a few years ago. Unless you choose to drive into Chicago. (no thank you)
If you make it to Central Ohio, Columbus still has its German Village. I took a friend who was born in Germany in the 50s and he actually cried from home sickness over the food at Schmidt’s German Restaurant.
Wow my husband and I moved to Germany last year and you guys were just down the road from his childhood home in Greenville! So strange! Unfortunately we haven’t been able to enjoy Hans and Franz because it isn’t exactly vegetarian friendly.
I went to a Hof Brau Haus in Philadelphia. They touted their echt food. I ordered the schnitzel and it sucked. I make a far better schnitzel. I learned while living in Wien. This place seems pretty good. I like your selections.
I spent a few years in Baden-Württemberg (Ettlingen and Karlsruhe). Always loved the spätzle with Jägerschnitzel. Most American restaurants I've had it in have not done it justice.

Yes, give it a try but 40% of people here in Germany prefer potato salad with mayo, 22% potato salad with vinegar and oil. I myself also prefer potato salad with mayo. 👌
When my in-laws ask me to go to the german restaurant when I visit them, my answer i clearly no! I have Austrian food almost all year so I’m not in desperate search for it in the States! I rather enjoy southern food, bbq…
It is so strange you cannot find potato salad! Where I am there always seems to be some and usually more than one type. I am very surprised they did not have any in the German Village because there is always so much of it everywhere 🤣 So what were they thinking to make mashed potatoes instead?
Kartoffeln in my homemade Potato Salad are never mashed. My Great Great Grandfather migrated from Germany about a hundred years ago bringing my Great Grandmother over to America with him. My Grandmothers made warm Kartoffeln Salad that tasted like had apple cider vinegar and parsley in it many times during week at various mealtimes, it was okay, but I prefer good ol American Potato Salad.
Okay, they are still working on the Weißwurst culture. Mustard and ketchup (What the ...?!) make no sense on a Weißwurst, as the sausage is eaten without the skin. Fried Sauerkraut balls - that's a great idea! I'll try that to cook it next time.
OMG what they hell did they do with the Weißwurst ??? It doesn’t look like a real Weißwurst!!! That poor Weißwurst definitely experienced a culture shock!!!
That looked far better than the place you went to in Helen, GA. I tend to be pretty wary of places that claim to be the "whatever" capital of the country, often too much emphasis on tourist rather than authenticity. The best German/Bavarian food I have found have been in places with a large German/Bavarian immigrant community. Places like Dallas/Ft Worth or Houston, TX and Huntsville, AL. I am 100% in agreement, vinegar or mustard based potato salad over mayo based. I really don't like mayo based. Also, I disagree about liking sauerkraut but I do prefer naturally fermented over vinegar based. German and Irish descendants in the U.S. are generally the top 2 European populations by number. So, it would not be a stretch to say that the is a German community in every State. The Texas Hill Country has some of the earliest Southern U.S. German settlements and still possesses a very vibrant Deutsche-centric feel.
