  • Hello, hello, hello! This week we’re still in the south of England, treading the line between Devon & Somerset whilst exploring the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
    We spend lots of time outside in forests, learn about the role this area played in fighting off the Spanish Armada, climb ancient hill forts, admire giant obelisks & spot wild horses.
    But owing to toddler tantrums, the frustrating number of height barriers & infamously narrow, windy lanes around these parts, we also have our most difficult week so far on this summer road trip around England.
    Tune in to watch it all unfold - catch you in the comments!
    Much love,
    Sarah, James & Ady

    I love channels with families so my favourites (ATM) are The Newbys, Flying the Nest. I also like Max and Occy, Indie project and Overlanding Sophia. Loving your channel as always, feel your frustration. I used to drive a Ford Tourneo as a taxi and had to reverse out of a car park onto a busy road with a disabled customer due to a barrier 😡

      You have very similar tastes in UA-cam channels to us! Some of our faves in your list 😀 That sounds like a nightmare in the taxi, really so dangerous and completely unnecessary ❤️

    Some channels I love are, the indie projects, flying the nest, Natalie lynn, tread the globe, off the ranch kallmekris, Celina spookyboo, and a ton of spooky ghost hunting channels 😂 then there’s always good mythical morning!

      Thank you, we’ve not heard of most of those so will definitely give them a go. Didn’t actually know that ghost hunting channels existed either! They sound pretty entertaining 😀👍

    Glad you were made to feel welcome at your park up in the Blackdown Hills. As an adopted Blackdowner, I recognised some of the paths you were on. The height barriers at Staple Hill and Castle Neroche are a pain in the arse for me too: it's hit and miss getting a proper old school Landrover under them depending on tyres/ride height. If you were looking to park at night though, you probably dodged a bullet; bit of a reputation for doggers up there!

    💕Most of the height barriers are to stop the travellers with their caravans💕Due to the fact that they do not respect an area & leave them looking like a rubbish dump💕Many boroughs in the uk now have Move on Orders passed by law which mean they cannot stop unfortunately more remote locations find this very difficult hence the height barriers💕

    Great video as always. On the subject of suggesting new UA-cam material, and tying this in with living on a narrowboat possibly in the future, do you watch any narrowboat channels? If not start with Holly the Cafe Boat and also Ula and Josh 👍🏻

      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  Рік тому

      Thank you ☺️ We’ve not watched any narrowboat stuff actually, we’ll definitely take a look at those channels though, thanks so much for the suggestions!

    Yeah, having a larger vehicle does have its challenges... For me, it's that Grey struggles to fit many charging bays...assuming we could gain access in the first place! And some of the roads we've been down are designed to have this driver hatching scaly geese😮
    Ady is soooo adventurous. Hugs from the auld Scottish aunty. YAM xx

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  Рік тому +1

      Fortunately the charging thing is one we don’t have to worry about but that definitely sounds a pain. Presumably the bays are all made for Tesla sized vehicles rather than vans, hadn’t considered that! We don’t get too concerned about the narrow roads now but these were definitely some of the smallest 😅 Hugs back ❤️

    Our daughter is a similar age to Ady. she is also absolutely obsessed with horses! That's the bonus of having a side door! L We are in a Luton and although we love the extra space compared to our sprinter there is something more connected to the outside in a panel van. so lovely the horses coming right up to the kitchen 🥰

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  Рік тому

      That’s really funny, she just can’t get enough of them! Definitely made her week having the horse poke her head in. Agreed, we often think that about motorhomes as well which generally have pretty small side doors. But it’s swings and roundabouts, as you say you have loads more space, compromise has gotta come somewhere. Bet our daughters would get on 😀

    Enjoying this. Shame about the park ups and lack of bins, I feel your frustration. Ady is gorgeous and lovely to hear her voice. I follow, expawers, tread the globe, the Newbys, Mr and Mrs adventure, camper vibes, Kinging it. Love them all. Looking forward to next vlog. X

    Clue's in the name, Triangulation Pillar.
    Starting with an approximately 5 mile base line (on Hounslow Heath), that they measured very accurately, in 1791 they spent 62 years using trigonometry to plot a mesh of triangles across the whole of Great Britain & Ireland. It was redone a few times, just to check no mountains have moved, before GPS. There was a great TV series about it presented by Nicholas Crane.

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  Рік тому

      We’ve never heard them called that, we’ve only ever heard them referred to as trig points and never really thought about the origin of the name. Absolutely incredible feat! That programme sounds really fascinating, will have to check it out.

    If you ever make it to the U.S. and come to Connecticut be aware we have copperhead and timber rattlesnakes. I have seen copperheads on the trails but never a rattlesnake. Glad you didn't see a snake on your hike.
    Those height restrictions must be frustrating.
    Ady looks like she's enjoying helping you Sarah and it's a great learning tool. I love the expression on her face when she got to pet the horse!

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  Рік тому +1

      We’re quite lucky over here to not have many dangerous animals at all, rattlesnakes are terrifying! Ady loves helping to do whatever we’re doing but she really loves cooking ☺️ And she adores horses, she was so excited that one came right to the door ❤️
