@@benfisher1376dahrling, I understand! Not everyone can be as fabulously queer as I am, but if you would like some help in your evolution from gay to queer, I’m happy to assist. Start by realizing that, despite much progress, all members of GLBTQ+ communities are still subject to vicious persecution by some Republican politicians, and thus politics are still tightly bound up with equal rights for all GLBTQ+ people. Since our struggle for equality continues as a political struggle, the use of politically charged words like Queer are powerful tools in that fight for equality.
Despite my tongue-in-cheek joke in my first sentences, everyone can identify as queer, it is an inclusive term, not an exclusive term. If you are not yet comfortable embracing the label of queer, if you don’t want to be politically involved at this time, that’s not a problem, those who are fighting, will fight for you too, for we truly are all in the fight together.
