MUNCHIES Guide to Bavaria: Punky Mountain Cheese
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 січ 2016
- In the first episode of the MUNCHIES Guide to Bavaria, our host, food blogger Ailine Liefeld of Aicuisine, visits Käs Karl-a.k.a. Carlos, a punk rock cheesemaker who produces insanely good product at the Kappeler Alp and makes her Kässpatzen, a cheesy spaetzle dish.
After that, she takes part in a cattle drive in Bad Hindelang, which one could describe as a "love parade for cows". Down in the valley, we find plenty fo hearty Bavarian food, and a lot of beer!

make karl host all the episodes of munchies
I'm surprised out of all of Bavaria they managed to track down the one hipster dairy farmer there is.
+Kibbler this
+Kibbler yeah..he really looks like a hipster..hipsters only wish they were as cool as Karl
well he´s not a hipster, but a totally uncommon and unrepresantative example of bavarians :D
+Gagan Maur That guy is hilarious. the subtitles don't do him justice
I am German and I'm thankful for the subtitles whenever Karl is talking.
+Alladiings His accent is Tyrolese fyi ^^
+FloIstMoep you base that claim on what information?
Clemens Pohl
technical answer: for example the shift of 'k' to 'kch' and of 'st' to 'scht'
FloIstMoep it's not uncommon for the outmost southern valleys of germany to have this characteristic in the dialect. Karl (Karl Gehring) was born and raised in Gunzesried, Bavaria. Actually he worked for a couple of years in Tyrolia, but i doubt this influenced his way to speak that much.
Clemens Pohl
Good to know. Well dialects don't follow landmarks and Tyrolese is a part of the bavarian dialect group so his dialect seems to have a lot of Tyrolese elements. In fact Tyrolese itself isn't homogenic and in some of the northern valleys of the austrian state of Tirol people speak pretty much like Karl. There are different mixes of dialects in parts of south Germany, east Switzerland and west Austria that have those elements though, that's right.
*Bavaria: The Texas of Germany.*
irgendwie wahr
+samy said dude, lots of Germans in Texas
+samy said Texas: The Bavaria of the USA.
+samy said Cows in Texas get fed corn, that shithole dried up of grass long ago.
samy said Yep, it is the Deep South of Germany.
Karl clearly was wasted already when she arrived, lol.
Karl looks like he plays in a metal band. The cheese shape did look like the body of an acoustic guitar.
Wasted on life.
😎😎😎
The official Bavarian Lemmy, fueled with cheese and schnaps.
best comment LOL
+Kevin Cochet LOL!! Best comment so far!!
5:35 looks like he loves the tabel
+Kevin Cochet dude holy shit, except from the "fueled with" part, I was about to make the exact same comment until I seen yours! Even funnier I had that thought the moment I seen him and not when they put the motorhead covers up to his face!
The best comment I read, EVER!
This guy is the Jack Sparrow of the Mountains ... 10/10
Accurate description
His buddy actually looks like a Bavarian version of Gibbs.
I don't know if you english speaking guys can tell from the way he speaks, but Karl is batshit crazy! :D
+westwest yaw He looks fucking insane.
+westwest yaw lol how so??
Well besides his bavarian dialect, he has a very odd way to talk and move. Probably, because he doesn't get to meet that many different people up there. :D
westwest yaw haha Oh I see, I see! I want to taste his Schnapps!
or everyone is insane..and Karl is the only sane one...
It's good to see Rumpelstiltskin has broken into the cheese-making business.
+Strand LOOL
hahahahahaha!
i was thinking Karl looks like he's into heavy metal
Lern mal deutsch du otto
I met Karl today at the „Alpe Stubental“, a restaurant he owns. He brought the Food to the table and I was very perplexed to see him, but I managed to get an autograph. Believe me, he’s just as cool in real life.
Waouh, il a pas l'air facile. Entre Edward Scissorhands et Sleepy Holow. En tous cas, moi, je dors pas à la ferme, je redescends dans la vallée.
I love how slightly tense the first interaction with Karl is until she says the schnapps tastes like water hahaha
That was cheeky but really broke the ice
that shepherd didn't speak more than 3 words at a time. 110% Mountain
Maybe he's in shock that his sheep have turned into cows.
@@alasdairniven6578 Best comment ever 😂😂👍
No amount of editing could make me not want to hang out with Kas Karl for a day.
Karl has the typical villainous laugh.
Or like a mad scientist.
I think he would fit in well in Inglorious basterds 2
3:55 pirates of the Bavarian
These "guide to" series are incredible. Thanks guys!
Karl is awesome. Batshit insane, yes, but awesome nonetheless
Shit, I can not watch this without tearing up. I am from bavaria and living in Berlin for 7 years now. I hardly go back home once a year but grew up like this.
When they were asking for the schnapps at the table, it reminded me of the basement scene from Inglorious Bastards.
sitting here crying with homesickness... i love berlin, but i need to go home more.
- We need schnaps..
+ What kind of schnaps?
- The best one 'just karl'
+- RUDI!
Karl should do some sort of tv show just to let people experience more of his weird awesomeness
Hahaha i like this Karl guy. Quite a character, ain't he? 🤣
Karl is so cool.
he looks a bit like johnny depp
@@evilpagan2342That's fitting,consider how he's behaving lately.
johnny depp looks a bit like karl
-"Where else can you go into a shop and buy sheets of pork rind?"...
-Mexico, here we call it "chicharon" ;)
man i love europe. i used to see the scenery and lifestyle on tv. i love the cold, gloomy and cosy days and people seem more peaceful and traditional there. life looks so relaxed.
Drinks, cheese and pork that's paradise right there!
There are so many places in this vast world that I would love to see. Thanks for allowing me the chance to live vicariously through you, at least for now!
Lived in Bavaria, Germany for three years (A little town named Vilseck) and I loved it, will definitely be back again!
Der Allgäu? DAS Allgäu!!!
That chuckle she did after putting that postcard to her chest was so damn cute lol
This host is wonderful, good job keep it up
Karl looks like he could be related to Tommy Wiseau
I love all these guide series! Very cool to see other peoples food cultures :)
Those guides are AWESOME!!!
wow her lipstick stayed on the whole time
Großartig so tollen Content auf UA-cam zu finden! Danke.
Ohhhhh, just seeing the Alpspitze makes me miss my second home: Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Three years I lived there, I hope many more.

I never knew Bavaria was so beautiful and interesting. I love the culture!
Those eggs look amazingly fresh and just all around amazing. Delightful.
Danke für den tollen Beitrag! Lg aus Berlin
Karl is the best of UA-cam!!! And I was glad about the subtitles whenever he spoke...how did the host manage to understand him?

So awesome that people there have jobs just hording Cows down a hill. So simple yet they do it with such pride and dignity. True happiness without the worry of current life distractions.
awesome cinematography... munchies
i loved Bavaria! Wanna go back.
Whenever I go to Austria (Tirol) we pass through Bayern. Very similar accents, both that sound nothing like the "regular" German language. Both are awesome though.
These people just don't give a fuck about anything! it's amazing! I love it
Wie herrlich sein Dialekt ist. Und das Essen sieht fantastisch aus :))
Gah, German/Bavarian women are so beautiful.
die übersetzen "zum wohl" mit "to health" LOL
"cheers"?
du hast dir heute echt was vorgenommen , was? :D
erinnert mich an meinen ex-deutschlehrer
+Diggie Owns "to health" sagen die englischsprachigen auch nicht, aber die Franzosen sagen "santé", also Gesundheit. Iraner sagen "salamati" was auch Gesundheit bedeutet. Wurd halt einfach wörtlich übersetzt und nicht sinngemäß.
Der Typ ist die männliche Nina Hagen.
suezlala Die Nina singt aber besser 😂
I like Karl, he is the best!
This lady looks like a Bavarian princess who haunting this beautiful forest. Maybe Novalis dreamed about her. Greetings from France.

ach püpen
such a happy place! (:
I NEED MORE KARL!
keeping up with the dialog was like a fucking chore.
I fucking love Bavaria i was born in north Germany but without a doubt Munich is my favorite place on planet earth, im leaving Scotland and looking for work in Munich
Quirky folk! Love it! Not like the Germans I've met.... I've obviously going to the wrong places. Bravo!
I loved bavaria when I was there. Beautiful place and beautiful people. What more can you ask of a place?
less ignorant & narcissistic people
+Drowning the Hühnersuppe Are u bavarian? Or have you visited it?
TheNuggzt3r im german ^^ im living in the neighbour state of bavaria and visited often
This was great. The lady was nice and Karl was cool
I wonder if the cows are annoyed by those bells. I'd go insane hearing that all the time
They only wear them when being moved up/down the mountain twice a year. Guess it makes it easier in the mountain valleys to recognize stragglers, as the viewing field can be pretty obstructed.
Good shit
+Numb Gnome Hey butters.
+Numb Gnome good shit
jeeeez, when u have to read the subtitles even though u r German :D
What a life. Wish i could live like them
What about a Guide to Schleswig-Holstein, Germanys State in the North? :)
karl is the hammer xD we need more karls out there xD but yeah he is insane xD
Karl is a badass
Legend says that Johnny Depp ended up entering this Bavarian area and turned into Jack Sparrow!
cutest munchies host
I want to visit Karl and eat cheeze and drink schnapps. And listen to music.
While part of the Allgäu politically belongs to the state of Bavaria the accent they speak their is not Bavarian but Swabian which is an Alemannic dialect.
Edit: also Käsespätzle are not a Bavarian specialty but rather a Swiss, Swabian an West Austrian one.
+Evi1M4chine what if I told you about means of abstraction?
So that's why he sounded swiss to me
@@boahkeinbockmehr he sounds definetly bavarian and not swiss but i guess if your cant speak the language you prolly wouldnt notice
