  • This difficult backhand shot can be made much easier with some simple tips!
    Coming from a tennis background this is one of the more difficult shots to learn (with the bandeja)...but, like the bandeja, it is important to have this in your game! If you are only playing slice from the back, it is too risky and better players will expose that!
    Let us know in the comments if this is a shot you struggle with!

    Congratulations on been a "relatively new" father. The baby analogy was great, but please don't play with your baby in your arms. Haha.
    This was a great video. I just have one comment to add and is something you were doing naturally but didn't mention it during the video and that is the left hand and arm role during the setup, hit and follow through. During the setup, it is good to have the left hand go back as well while holding the paddle. This provides balance. During the hit, the left hand lets go of the paddle and starts moving backwards to help with balance. And finally, during the follow thourgh, it should be extended, almost mirroring the right hand and arm so you end up with both arms wide open. This helps with balance and control. For new players this is very difficult to remember, and goes hand-in-hand (pun intended) with how some players bend the wrist on the right hand.
    Keep the videos coming, they are amazing!

    If possible, could I ask you to make a video on shot selection when your opponents have the net position? I often find myself questioning whether i should use bandeja, lob or a normal backhand/forehand in various spots (mostly after I have been lobbed, but also when returning the serve). Would be much appreciated!

    Can you make a video with some exercises that we can do at home to improve movements and positions?

    Thank you. From tennis background with double hand background and high one hand slice I been struggle with this. From having thousands of hours with confident backhand strokes it has been frustrating doing one hand flat backhand. There is no feel in the wrist and I have been struggling finding out the wrist position. I got zero confidence when the ball hit the ground before the net or hitting the glass on the other side. Its like starting all over again. In these corona times I bought a ball machine to train my weaknesses. After 2-3000 repetitions of flat backhands I start to have more feel but afraid to automate wrong wrist techniqe. Next time is it possible to show backhand in slow motions to see the elbow wrist action? Anyways I take your points to my heart.

    Nice tips but would be great to also see you hit some from a wider camera angle. So as to show us the trajectory etc. The common fear is that if you hit a “flat” shot from lower down it will just hit straight into the net!
    A follow on video to show where to aim depending on the oppositions positions would also be cool 👍🏻

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  3 роки тому

      In tennis you change your grip for the single handed backhand (to eastern) - but in padel you do not (or sometimes only very very slightly), the movement comes at the arm/wrist.

    I get confused with this shot because you almost never have it that simple. Most of the time you play the backhand just before it bounce and when that happend you don’t have time to get sideways. Other couches don’t suggest to point the raquet to the back glass, instead they tell you to point it more to the side glass so you have more control because the backswing is shorter. The best advice I got is to stay low, point the right shoulder to the ball hit it in front where is your knee

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  3 роки тому +1

      Interesting how other coaches teach it. You are right, on faster balls you would have a shorter swing. I would rather teach the full swing on slower balls and have to shorten an existing swing rather than teach a short swing and then not sure where to take the racket to make it longer...but that's just my opinion...

      Dario V my Spanish is a little rusty, but isn’t he talking about it being a mistake to use the hand to close the racket face and it should be more like a pendulum?! His example and the examples in the video show the players taking the racket all the way back (which you’d need to for the pendulum idea- which I agree with)...
