    Played with a trainer once, 2 minutes in during the warm up, he told me that I am no longer allowed to play slice for the remainder of the practice.
    those remaining 58 minutes changed my game completely !

    I’m not a great tennis player - I’m regarded as a ‘pusher’ because I just keep it going with junk balls and slice, so using too much top-spin in padel has not been an issue for me. However, following previous lessons on here I have switched from an over-reliance on slice, even on shots below waist level at the back, to incorporate flat returns, and it does make a huge difference. They don’t necessarily win the point, I don’t expect to from the back, but they eliminate a lot of errors and keep us in the point. Still not perfect, but definitely up a level, so big thanks from me!

    Great video Sandy! This is exactly what we are struggeling with at the moment. To much top-spin when you are out of position = ball in the net or high up in the back-glas... Thanks!

    Great Video. I agree with you with the topspin. Tennis background styled topspin works only at a beginner level, with players also learning the sport. You are giving away the net most of the time, and once the opponent understand how you play, they will predict the shot and give themselves more time to react. The "slow" speed topspin is a great shot, similar to the chiquita but with just enough speed to force the opponents into difficult positions. The reference video from WPT with the overlay was great to understand what you were explaining.
    Keep it up!

    in the begining i was trying to put a lot of slice on the ball, every ball. i was getting frustrated cause many of my shots were going towards the net. Nowadays after some classes i learned to hit flat and it helped me a lot to improve my game comitting less mistakes.

    Good stuff. Follow this up with a slo-mo of the topspin smash (3 meters) technique, please!

    great vid. Use more and more flat shots with variation of speed and angle. top spin is used more as a combination of basic shots and block shots. I used to slice a lot but use more flat shots. gives more control.

    By default I tend to hit slice and have to focus to remember to hit flat. As you say, very few recreational players have dominated the flat shot, especially those coming from tennis.

    Hey Sandy. You make great videos! Thanks for that. But i m always missing some items about grip when playing flat or topspin in forehand or backhand. I saw a video where you speak about always using continental grip. Is this also for all the flat and topspin shots. I come from tennis and really strungling with this continental grip in these shots...

      Hi Pieter, thats a great question and I'm sure it would be helpful for other players in the community to have this addressed. We will pass your feedback onto the team and see if we can create some content about this in the near future.

    at 2:58, that shot looks flat and you provide it as an example for a top spin shot. Am I reading it incorrectly?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  2 роки тому +1

      You are reading correctly. Maybe it is difficult to see from the angle, but Galan is actually brushing the ball with a bit of topspin, that is how he gets that dip down to the feet there.

    I'm still quite a beginner, but I have lots of problems returning the ball when a friend plays with top spin. These balls tend to stay really low after contact with the ground, so by the time they reach the back wall there is no way of scooping them back up.
    Any advice on this?

    • @friku404
      @friku404 3 роки тому

      No need to scoop the ball up before it reaches the back wall. If the ball comes with that lot of top spin and don't jump up after bouncing one time it surely will hit the back wall with enough speed and spin that the ball will bounce up. You've got to be somewhere in the middle of the court when this happens and simply give the ball a soft touch to place it on the other side. Once you have better control over those balls you can do something very close to a bandeja once the ball bounces off of the back wall. Much more aggressive and if not done well can end with your ball hitting the opponents back wall, so try it only if you feel confortable with the previous soft touch.
      As you can see at proffessional level padel this high back wall bounces never happen and it's because they're easy to attack.

    What's wrong with the slice forehand?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  2 роки тому

      On higher balls it’s fine. But the risk can reward usually makes it not the best choice from low balls at the back.

    Hey Sandy, this video is perfect timing for my doubt. Lately I've been trying to hit flat but my ball bounces too high on my opponents wall, does this mean that I hit top spin instead? To avoid that I hit with less power but then it's any easy shot for my opponents. Any suggestions?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  3 роки тому

      When you saying it’s bouncing too high on the opponents wall? Are they at net and you are hitting passed them and then high on the back glass?

    • @joesepu
      @joesepu 3 роки тому

      Hi Marc. Maybe you are choosing to hit flat shots at the wrong moment. Sandy has a great video about flat shots. In my case, I usually only use a flat shot with power when my hitting contact point is going to be higher than the net. This prevents the ball from bouncing too high when hitting the glass. I use low to mid power when my contact point is at, or lower than, the net height, because I will have the raise the ball for it to go over the net and that can create more height if it bounces of the wall. And I know this next one might sound too obvious but check that you aren't accidentally adding a little bit of topspin to your flat shot. I was moving my wrist on my follow through early on and that made my flat shots have just enough spin to make them bounce higher. Hope this helps.

    • @sarinyoUtv
      @sarinyoUtv 3 роки тому

      @@ThePadelSchool Yes but sometimes they are on the back too. I noticed that the ball is going upward before touching the back glass (the bounce in the ground is deep, after my opponents service line) so it's natural that the bounce on the wall is upward too, isn't it? If I hit with less power the ball reaches the highest point before touching the back glass (also it doesn't touch the ground that deep, maybe on the service line) so it doesn't bounce that high. But then again if I hit with less power it's an easy ball to return.
      I'll try to see if I put a little bit of spin without noticing it.

    Moral of the story, never use top spin unless you are gonna smash the ball out of court.
