  • Big Cat sightings have been in the News for years. So what better way to get a closer look at this topic than our very own Big Cat Search! Spending 3 days Stealth Camping in a forest closeby to some reported sightings using the Dutch Army Hooped Bivvy and British Army Basha for shelter and Trail Cameras as my eyes in the places I am not. This is the hunt for the Big Cat.

A few years ago on the East Coast between Ingoldmells and Skegness I was walking along the sea front from Ingoldmells to the 24 hour garage at Skegness, half way there is a golf course, the moon was out and my night vision was alert, on one of the greens there was a fully mature Black cat, massive, I was with a friend and we both watched in fear as this cat stalked something it had seen, we watched for a minute at least and then made a hasty retreat both in shock and fear, we walked the main road way back, nobody believes this story but we will remember ir for rest of our lives

I saw a large black cat the size of an adult male leopard. But it's tail was shorter like that of a jaguar. Where the sun was shining on it's back, I could see a reddish tint to it's fur (which is a trait of melanistic leopards and jaguars) It was walking along the edge of a field near junction 10 (Reading, Berkshire) on the M4 motorway back in 2006.
My mother's friend had a very close encounter with what she called a 'skinny lioness' (puma) back in the early 2000s, near the Thames river where Eton meets Windsor. Said she was sat on a bench with her eyes closed meditating, when she suddenly felt she was being watched. So she opens her eyes, and sees this big brown cat walk across the clearing from one patch of woodland into the other, all the while staring at her. She was left shaken by the encounter, and refused to go walking in that area alone again.
My mum saw a large grey cat as it was getting dark near Slough (next to the Langley country park). Said it was the size of a large german shepherd and was walking along the road as she drove up to it. As her car got near, it suddenly jumped off the road and bounded away towards the woods in the darkness.

i was a former royal marines sniper and was at the time a cop in rural argyll scotland, in the mid 8os there were hundreds of sightings of very large feral cats, the people sighting them were not city folk or tourists, they were local farmers, ghillies, estate managers, hikers and country folk of many generations. i used to hunt a lot off duty and one day from a high point i watched a black leopard/mountain lion/cougar/ puma for about ten minutes through my wide angle scoped rifle. the beast was within a plantation of just planted shrubs and i had a clear view. it was about 600 metres from me and the wind was slight and in my face, the plantation was ringed by a 15 foot tall deer fence, it had a long tail the same length as its body, it was black but on closer inspection it had faint whitish rings along its side, i watched it in amazement as its moved back and forth head moving from left to right, i zoomed in to max zoom and saw its face it was definitely a cat. something then startled it and in three bounds it completely cleared the deer fence and disappeared into the forestry commission trees out of sight. i wasn't the only cop to see it, others out at night outside the towns saw it as it passed in front of there stationary cop car, they even took plaster casts of its paw prints and had them examined by vets and sent to the local safari park. the results were conclusive it was of the puma etc variety, police bosses held a public meeting but refused to believe the evidence collected. they were terrified not knowing what to do they just did not want to know. after some three months the sightings and loss of livestock stopped and it was believed that the cat or cats (some sightings were of two or more cats) had moved there hunting ground. it is likely that after the dangerous animals act came in pet creatures were released into the wild and are still there.

I watched one for a good 10 minutes through binoculars back in the 90s. Was a big one too! I was on holiday with the family in Cornwall. We were at the bottom end of a theme park and the wife and 2 boys were on rides. I was at a fence, the edge of the park, with the little girl asleep in the buggy.
The cat was about 500 yds away. It jumped over a fence and walked through a hedgerow into a field. It then laid down catching the sun.
As soon as my wife came back, I told them we're leaving!! And we did!

I’d think night vision would be better option. vids I’ve seen : larger leopard w/ long tail. Are the species from Africa and South America or Asia - India etc different in size and nature? These cats if released by rich would have been fed raw meat. Their prey live., perhaps. Dont leopards kill prey and pull them up unto trees? Tracking dogs work for cougars ,but 2ould they work for exotic cats? How do natives capture them? Mt Lion- cougars sound like screaming woman. Exotics ? Only common denominator is their cats . How large is their radius for hunting territory? Just friendly queries? I haven’t studied any traits just a curious documentary watcher. Cougars have infiltrated into communities that are naive of their nature. Joggers, hikers attacked, even vids showing them wondering up onto neighborhoods and homes patios searching for food ( pets) versus staying in high country. Like you said , “ fast food “
Very interesting video. I’m glad I popped in. Thank you.

Enjoyed your video thx. I was in the forces & saw a big cat with a bunch of other squaddies near Ullapool in about 1993. Just saw the shadow leap from a field across the road into another field but it was a lynx size. Have been interested in UK sightings ever since. Went to Canada years ago & spoke to a mountie who said he hadn't seen a cougar alive in 20 yrs & that's common. Sightings are pretty rare but they do get the occasional road-kill. Cats are so elusive with their heightened senses there is no need for them to show themselves with the abundance of easy prey catch we have here. I believe in the US there are beginning to be more sightings or interactions with people in certain areas because they are coming into closer contact with humans encroaching on their habitat. Not sure if all of what I'm saying is 100% correct, I'm no expert, just anecdotal opinion 👍

we had full grown sheep killed and vets reported that the cause of death for all was strangulation by a bite around the throat and claw marks across the belly. some carcasses were flayed. the vet report conclusion was a large non indigenous feral cat.

Highly plausible as they were released into the wild maybe others escaped etc, there are a fair few people on UA-cam in other countries that keep big cats as pets.

I'm pretty sure I saw a big cat but it happened quickly in twilight. No camera on me. I had been in a woods all afternoon collecting firewood with my dog. Umpteen times back to the car to unload my back-pack, and going back & forth. So when I'd finished it was starting to go dark. November 2006 I think but may have been 2007 .
I thought I'd take my dog for a bit of a stroll before we went home. We started down a long track which was intersected about100 yards away by another track. She was sniffing about and I was looking down the track. when all of a sudden, on the intersecting track ahead, I saw a large black creature run along low to the ground. It kind of "slunk" and its body rippled as it ran then it was gone.
I estimated its length to be at least 3 feet probably more, and its "slinking height" to have been about 18 inches or more? It had a long tail
It wasn't a deer for sure. Or a loose dog (but we had seen no one in there and no dogs all day.)
The problem, was it all happened in about 3 seconds, in the twilight, so things were a bit unclear.
I decided to take my dog right out of there and go back to the car. I didn't feel I would have been in any danger but I didn't want my dog to catch its scent and run after it.
The next day I left my dog in the car and went to look for tracks. That was impossible as there was really thick leaf-litter. I spent some time looking and checking any patches of mud with few leaves on them, but no tracks.
    That was in Somerset UK.

Good video bud, I spent my youth being brought up by my uncle in Kent, he was a head keeper on an estate around the Battle area. I spent all of the 70's out in the woods hunting and fishing with my cousins. We had often heard storeys of Big cats, but never came across anything exotic other than some Capybara that once lived on Romney marsh. Those poor buggers had to be culled, because rather than eat the long weed in the water ways, they took a fancy to the young reeds and scoffed them instead, so they had to go. Another lesion in meddling with the balance of nature , "Do it at your peril !" Keep the videos coming mate really enjoy the work. Big thumbs up,
    Regards
    Moose

i saw a big black cat in the north east of the uk around the size of a rotweiler it was around 4am coming home from a mates house i had to cross the field of a community sports centre when from behind a 5 ft gridded fence walked the "panther" its sillhouette was unmistakable as this thing was around 20ft away and back lit from street lamps it stopped and turned to face me we stared at each other for maybe 10 seconds and thats when i noticed its rounded ears and thick tail and i could see its shoulders as it lowered itself as it stopped to look before it walked thirty feet or so then jogged into the next fields trees. i reported it to police and they later confirmed 2 more sightings in towns either side of my town and a sheep mauling. this was early in the 2000's.This was in stockton on tees

In cat's paw prints there is a depression caused by a main pad, often with three lobes, then four toe prints in front. The prints don't usually show claws because unlike dogs and foxes, cats have retractable claws.

Scotland 2005 my cousin & I were driving on a very cold night around 11pm, we were going to see a relative. We were on a very quiet country road & we turned a corner & on the middle of the road eating roadkill was a very large black cat. The headlights hit its eyes & it jumped to the grass verge & disappeared. Absolutely beautiful it was & we could not believe what we had just seen. When we got to our relatives who lived near by, he was not surprised to hear what we had seen him being a local. I'm no expert but to me this was a large black panther, I feel very privileged to have seen such a beautiful creature here in Scotland.

I saw one up close for about 90 seconds at the Army Training Area in Caerwent. It was pacing me as I walked through a heavily overgrown railway cutting. It was about 15ft away in the thick bracken. It was stocky, mottled black and smaller than a great Dane but bigger than a labrador. The site rangers were very much aware of it and volunteered where I had seen it before I told them. I first noticed it because, unlike the other wildlife I saw on the survey job, it didnt suddenly break cover when I got close, but paced parallel with me, stopping when I stopped.
I was sore afraid, as they say in the bible

Seen a black cat years ago in daylight sat In Deep In the green sunbathing in the heat in the new forest, I saw it because I was high up in a coach and I always scan for deer when going by woodlands! So I no they exist it wasn't a new forest pony because I could see how muscular it's legs and shoulders were and it was smaller longer and slender! Jet black it was! Anyway I'm sure lots of people have seen them they just aren't sure because they aren't seen often so they probably doubted what they saw 👍

Great vid. well done staying out , it's a different sensation once you know they are around , unfortunately i think your first print next to the fox cub was a canid too but of the domestic kind ,,,, there is an area of raised mud between the digits , this is known as the oasis by some, i call it the well. this happens due to the spacing of the toes . the fist size ones in the leaf litter are promising especially if they suddenly stop (look up then) , dogs will leave a constant trail in deep litter and as dogs do, run everywhere .. brill job keep it up :)

I have a problem with a lot of submitted print evvidence, cats hate mud and they hate getting dirty. They will go to great lengths to avoid muddy areas. Of course, there will be times where they cannot help but leave tracks but i think a sighting is much more likely than a track find. When people find tracks in deep mud i get more sceptical than when someone reports a sighting.

I noticed you camped in my neck of the woods not too long ago (Cannock Chase) and there is supposedly big cat sighting up there, along with mythical stories of Pig Man (half-man half-pig) and the Black Eyed Children who are alledged to be ghostly kids wandering around. There was actually a famous murder case in the 60's where a guy from Walsall murdered young girls and dumped their bodies on the Chase, so I don't know if the legend is from that.
I'm guessing you heard/saw nothing though, just as I never have despite mountain biking up there for many years both day and night.
An interesting fact about Cannock Chase is that it inspired JRR Tolkein's Lord of the Rings books. He lived in a house in Great Haywood in 1916, which is close to Shugborough Hall at the edge of the Chase.

Lad... that bedding area is deer...deer have more then one bedding area in their territory...them track in the forest u was walking in r muntjac and roe.
Iv been tracking in South of UK for 30 yr... I csn show u a big cat area near my home..u may see Ilit or not.
There is no such breed as a panther...just puma and jaguars..panteride breeds
We have lynx in uk... and we do have puma and jaguars aswell
Big black cats r not panthers...they r black leopards...they have a genetic darkness in their menelin in their skin cells which give the black colour to their fur
Please get hold of me as if ur up for a collaboration looking in areas for big cats then we can meet and get out there for one
Cats won't attack tents..they a apex predator for a reason and will remain more elusive then the muntjac which I track and see often...
I myself go out and keep in mind the interiors I'm in that have had sightings in of big cats armed. We have boar...we have 6 species of deer in uk aswell..other mammals...muntjac r generally noisy wiv the snapping and brake g of branches etc through the nite...everything else will walk about quietly lad....
Get hold of me and if ur near by we will go out and track and have a butchers at what's about
That's a domestic cat ...willow trees just behind the cat r no more then 2 inches wide...
    Get intouch..

Im no expert but i have over 40yrs hunting and tracking big and small game here in the US which includes big cats as to cougars. Your description is deceiving and considered click bait.
The 1st set of tracks are from a cat but are too small compared to the fox tracks in order to be considered any large cat. The 2nd set of tracks you show are too old and degraded to be considered cat or anything else roaming around out there.
At the end you found a ferrell house cat and not a large cat at all. Good luck next time with hopes you do find a big cat eventually!

You do realise that wild cats come in many sizes right? Even within a species like a leopard for example, they come in a range of sizes, from tiny little cubs to 100kg big males and everything inbetween.

After reading the comments, I'm not sure how many saw the live footage of the cat at the end of the video. Otherwise this will be in big debate? Its cool footage but is this a predatory cat? Looks a tad bigget than a domesticated cat? Would love to hear people's opinions.
Also i watch alot Videos on deer hunting and deer bed down on vrass just like you showed in the vidio!! Big stags are extremely intelligent and very hard to spot in the wild as they can hear and smell you well before you can see them. Obviously i cant say for certain ,but its likely that a deer would have bed down there and a deer could have ran through the trees whilst you were sleeping!!
Keep up the search! Its interesting.
I dont have any big cat stories to share other than the few lepords we spotted in Taran geri national park in Tanzania in Africa 😅

Like you said hang your cups, likewise boots up ended and on sticks. Deters slugs and no rain.

Funny you should say how quiet it is in terms of wildlife. Ive been out a few times over the last 2 weeks with my camera and it's the quietest ibe known it, not even a muntjac to photograph.

Great video kept me waiting till the end. Well at least it was a cat. 😂😂🤣🤣. Joking aside it would be good to have big cats in our woods it would help keep the deer population down.

If there are big cats roaming the countryside as long as they said to do, wouldn't it make sense if got smaller than an African Leopard? Like the insular dwarfism affecting elephants ?
