Big Cat Sightings The Beast Of Bodmin

  • There is no doubt that Bodmin Moor is a creepy place. Should you happen to find yourself alone there as dusk is falling, try not to think about the layers of legend, horror and mystery associated with this wild and rugged landscape, and in particular, whatever you do, try not to let your mind dwell on The Beast.
    The Beast is the result of some sixty sightings of a black panther-like big cat, supposedly three to five feet long and sporting white-yellow eyes, combined with numerous reports of mutilated livestock. The evidence was robust enough that in 1995 the government ordered an official investigation into the existence of such a beast. The report finally concluded that there was verifiable evidence of a big cat on Bodmin Moor.

    A few years ago, people took this seriously. I remember in about 2001 travelling home from near Tinatgel across the moor. We saw a huge black cat like animal dart across the road in front of us - miles too big to be a domestic cat but certainly not lion sized. We were quite amazed. However nobody took us seriously.

    I saw black cat around 10 years ago I was driving down a single track country lane very early one morning after doing a delivery to a country /golf club in Wales and one shot across the road in front of me as I came around the bend, it was long almost as wide as the single track road it went into a large hole in the hedge line all I can remember was seeing this flash of a big black cat run across the road and watching its big tail disappear into the hedge. it was first light and I know what I saw for sure.

    I've seen big cats in the UK on two occasions . First time in 2003 running across an arable field by the side of the M25 at J7 by Crawley in the late afternoon in the summer. It looked like a panther …. Second occasion I was walking with the misses and the dogs ( which they were unusually quiet and remained with us both of us during the whole walk ) across the hills around Detling , Kent . We spotted it approx. 300m stalking I would imagine wild rabbits , it was black with a profile of a leopard , That was in the summer of 2012 …. we didn't hang around …. lol . They are out there .… !

      The massive reports of witness testimony can't be completely ignored. Also, there is quite a few videos of them and, with regards to why there is still no close up, high-resolution images/videos of any of these animals, is not enough to discount all of the other evidence; the size of the animals killed, the distance said animal was dragged and the physical evidence left behind - such as claw marks on the carcass, the method of killing and the very low amount of edible flesh left behind. Most, if not all experts asked, said that these were the work of a big cat. When you include the evidence of this video with the rest that is out there, it is very hard to conclude that any animal other than a big cat is responsible for all of the reports, killings, sightings, etc.

      @@rawdog314 the giant panda was nothing but a legend to Europeans for almost a century, despite numerous expeditions to look for them. It wasn't until the early 20th century that a specimen was found and documented by a scientist. There have been several occasions where either an animal has been declared extinct only for them to be found at local markets being sold for meat decades later, or reports of an animals living in a unexpected location being declared impossible or very unlikely by, 'experts', to once again be discovered years later. Besides the thousands of credible sightings, physical evidence in the form of scat, kill remains, foot prints, road kills and a few videos, including cctv, the UK is a very big place. Seeing our island on maps or globes gives a very misleading view to how large our home is. Another point is that up until about a decade ago, deer populations had to be regularly culled to control their population. In most counties that is no longer the case. And when you watch a documentary with scenes of a very rare animal, those shots have sometimes taken up to a year to film. Never underestimate the arrogance and ego of academics. The Wright brothers were flying for 2 years before one news paper editor believed it enough to print it. I suggest you look for information on this subject. What was the motive of a big cat knocking you out and leaving you unconscious? Saying there is no motive for a person to knock you down is kind of naive. I can think of many reasons why a man might knock you out. I can see no reason why a cougar or any other big cat would knock you to the ground and run away. If a big cat attacks it is attacking with the intention of eating you since it did not see you as a threat because you didn't even see it. It's not like you was trying to harm its Cubs and even then if it thought that was what you were doing it would have killed you. Wild animal don't do hit and runs. People do that when they don't want to kill but avoid being Seen by witnesses.

      A "panther" is a general term for a black leopard, or jaguar.

      Steve, you say that you film these wild cats, I myself am an amateur wild life photographer, soon to be converting a van into a day van to be able to park up somewhere, set up motion sensing camera's and video camera looking to see what is roaming around our countryside, could you please give any info on where you go to film, or a decent place to be able to park up and hope for some decent frames?......I live on the Devon-Cornish border, any help would be appreciated

      Steve.
      Thank you so much for All info given, I understand and respect that you wish to keep your locations to yourself, I have taken note of all that you have said regarding road kills going missing, etc I think it's time to park the van and start setting up movement sensor camera's.
      Once again a big thank you for all your info, you take care, and hope that you keep safe and your lucky....all the best to you

    I believe there is a big black cat in the UK but I’m not sure of what the animal is but this programme discredits itself when so called experts say that’s 100% a black puma or panther when a black puma does not exist and panther isn’t even a real animal it’s like a were wolf a panther is a mythical creature and if they were experts they would call it a melanistic leopard.

    • @arthurmorgan7086
      @arthurmorgan7086 6 років тому +4

      melissat922 actually there is black pumas, as well as black jaguars. And a panther is not a mythical creature

    • @melissat922
      @melissat922 6 років тому +5

      Jimmy O Sullivan never has been a single case of a black puma and yes you can get black jaguar scientific name being melanistic hence the melanistic leopard in my original post. And yes a black panther is a mythical creature but people have heard it so often they call them that what they are really referring to are leopards or jaguars with the melanistic gene (Black leopard or black Jaguar)

    • @arthurmorgan7086
      @arthurmorgan7086 6 років тому +1

      melissat922 you're speaking in technical terms, although I know what you mean. But it would be a bit like me saying that a great white shark is a mythical creature, because it's actually called carcharadon carcharias. Commonly known as great white shark

    • @melissat922
      @melissat922 6 років тому +2

      Jimmy O Sullivan it isn’t like that though as a great white shark exists, a black panther is a mythical creature comparing it to the likes of a were wolf but people have started to refer to melanistic leopards/Jaguars as panthers because so many people have called them that without the knowledge of what it is even certain questions on google will tell you it’s a leopard but it’s just an animal that looks similar to the mythical creature . It’s like someone referring to a horse as a unicorn because they have many similar attributes

    Where are her injuries, because a big cat can break ribs of a sheep with a paw swipe, I don’t think she’s very credible, her body language was all wrong to me she kept looking down avoiding eye contact, I call bullshit!
    I actually like that they’re out there let them be if they’re not hurting people. There should be a law against someone being able to kill it, dart or humanly trap but not kill!

    This is one of the most insane theories I have ever heard! I met the Beast of Bodmin on a cold October night many moons ago and it was a hippopotamus, not a cat or a dog of any kind. They are still out there to this very day rolling around in the mud - Hippos with great-big tusks that you do not want to mess with.
