  • Maintenance trimming a raft style portulacaria afra bonsai. A Raft style is characterized by a single trunk that is growing along the ground, with three or more trunks rising from it. In a raft style, the trunk along the ground illustrates a tree in nature that has been blown over by the wind, taken root and had its branches on the upward side continue growth as new trunks.

    Beautiful 👌 I could never imagine a raft style from Jade, awesome 🤝

      The interesting thing is it actually formed naturally. I planted a bunch of tall cuttings and this one tipped over and rooted itself. It followed the contour of the plastic pot it was originally in which is why it's curved.

    Hey. Great channel, great work, great attitude!
    Could you maybe do a video about forming a bonsai out of jade tree plant?
    I mean designing the form, what to do, what to avoid, how to develop a nice looking bonsai out of shop plant?

    That's quite a natural looking raft! was there another trunk towards the thicker end of the raft where a big wound can be seen?

    • @LittleJadeBonsai
      @LittleJadeBonsai  3 роки тому +1

      It's actually just the roots. All the wounds have healed up. It once had more trunks but on the other end.

    do these require full sun or partial shade? i'm in arizona and have a few good looking ones and they are left in full sun and don't seem to thrive like the ones on this channel.

    • @LittleJadeBonsai
      @LittleJadeBonsai  3 роки тому +2

      My trees are in the morning sunlight and are in the shade in the afternoon. Full sun is just too harsh for them. They will adapt in full sun but turn a lighter yellowish green color.

      @@LittleJadeBonsai thank you! that is exactly what is happening. early spring they were ready to take off lush green now the heat is here and they slowed way down and are extremely light.

    • @LittleJadeBonsai
      @LittleJadeBonsai  3 роки тому

      @@dsicloltotn Bring them into partial sun (morning sun preferably), then hit them hard with Osmocote and Liquid Miracle Gro and they'l return to a dark green in no time.

      Yes I actually have a Bonsai Life Stories video I'm working on. I'm waiting to repot it into it's new pot I'm going to make for it soon, then I'll finish the video.
