- Storm Dudley hit the UK and Ireland on 16th February 2022, causing disruption and damage across the British isles. In this video you'll see planes landing at Bristol airport between 12pm and 14:40pm, with winds varying between approximately 35mph-40mph with gusts of 48mph. Hats off to the pilots for the immense professionalism and skill in these testing conditions. 👏🌪
I have included ATC communications in the background, I hope you like that feature; it's quite interesting to listen to how the wind varied throughout the afternoon. Video is available to watch in 4K UHD! 😍

You can see all of them fight hard on approach, but most of the actual touch downs seem really buttery smooth. Respect.
Kudos to all the pilots in these videos for extremely soft/great landings in such unfavorable conditions! Great camera work! Thanks!
Absolutely 🙏☺️ Thankyou so much! 😆
Can we just talk about how every easy jet nailed every landing haha. Well done
As they should when the winds are almost straight down the runway.
Yes. Seemed more steady than the Ryanair's 737s.
@@Cactus732 its not always easy, just because the winds a straight down the runway, especially if there is gusts and mechanical turbulence.
@@Cactus732 At the end of runway 27 the terrain falls away rapidly. The general landscape is hardly flat as shown by the high ground beyond the landing threshold. You underestimate the turbulence produced by even a light wind.
The first EJ plain you saw, that was its second attempt. I just came from the video that showed it😂
The Aer Lingus guy at 1:39 was absolutely textbook perfect
Aer Lingus landing at 1:10 is simply brilliant. The pilot(s) must have balls of steel
👍 Thanks for watching. 😆
Excellent video! I remember coming in to RIX (Riga) a few years ago during very windy conditions. The plane felt like it was dancing the rumba while we were still several miles out. The pilot announced "Ladies and Gentlemen we are now approaching Riga. As you can tell it's rather windy in Riga at the moment, but don't worry, I'll get us down..." Everyone checked their seatbelts and pressed themselves hard into their seats. It felt like we were being tossed around like a leaf. I watched as an alarming amount of runway whizzed beneath us while we were still in the air fighting the conditions. After what seemed like too long the right rear wheel made contact so hard I thought it was going to come through the wing. We hung lop-sided for a few seconds before the left rear punched a groove in the tarmac. We were still sideways when the nosewheel made contact and yanked the plane in the direction we should have been pointing all along. The pilot announced triumphantly "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Riga!" The cabin erupted with applause and cheers. Fun to look back on but scary at the time. Those pilots deserve every penny and more.
Wow, quite the story 😦 Glad you got down safe in the end! 😅 Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. 👍

great footage. these pilots need a medal landing in this crazy weather. Excellant.
Thankyou! 😆 Haha I agree. 😂
Fantastic flying/landing in such challenging weather conditions. Excellent footage. Thank you for sharing with us
Thankyou very much! 🙌😆
Epic video mate! Very steady filming in the conditions too 👍
Thankyou Matt! 👌😆
So thankful that the passengers on these planes got to go home safe and well that night…Thanks to the incredible skill of the pilots.
Indeed...vide my post on 'carrier landing' without the arrester wires.
Thank you. iw as the co pilot on the Easyjet A330
6:22 -- some beautiful wing vortices floating downwards... Nice camera work. Thanks for sharing.
Hi what is it that produces the vortices?
For sure 😍 Thankyou very much. 👍
Wow absolutely beautiful footage and together with the radio input this is fantastic! Thank you 👏
Thankyou James, really appreciate it! ☺️🙏
Awesome video with very clear added ATC. Thanks!
Thankyou! 👍😆
God bless every pilot today..Great skills
🙏 Thanks for watching! 👍
Heroes, every one of them.
ATC speaks slowly and clearly. So rare to hear. The flying was pretty good too!
I'm impressed by the technical quality of the video (good camera), but it is always the photographer that defines the outcome. Very well done!
This us tame...like landing in Wellington NZ on a normal day
Thankyou very much for your kind words! 😆👍
I love ATRs. My favourite civil aircraft. Twitchy little things but great to fly in, and sound awesome, and beautifully handled here!
You see a lot coming and going from EGLC. I love them, it was my favourite to fly in FS2004; I had the Flight1 add-on which was actually commissioned by ATR for the sim.
Great footage and the ATC dialogue really adds context. 👍
Thankyou, glad you like the added ATC 😆👍
Wow, such testing conditions indeed, 20+ kts and crosswind too! The lighter carriers really struggled hard, such a low ceiling too!
Great video! Tops skills all round and it was nice to see the Emerald ATR's getting right into it!
Thankyou! 😃👌
Thanks for braving the weather. Dudley seems to give the ATRs a bit of a hard time. Really enjoyed the video. All the best Mick🇬🇧
Thankyou Mick! 😆 Certainly did. 😬 Cheers.
Greetings from Memphis! Great video! Breezy conditions for operations. Nicely captured.
Greetings! Thankyou so much. 💪✈️
Great footage and some nice centre line landings, the King Air did sterling work, being relatively light too.👍😊
Thankyou! 😀👍
Some nice crabbing there.
4:21 Love seeing the reversers in action (especially in the rain)
I'm glad its you guys out there filming this and compiling it.
Thankyou 😆👌
Wonderful video with atc thank you so much :3
Thank you! 😆👍
I’ve been on turbo prop commuters in that kind of wind, it can be quite the ride but the pilots do an incredible job. Great video.
Thankyou! I bet 😅
*Amazing Video and great skills to the Pilots - well done !*
Thankyou 😀👍
Nice captures in some challenging conditions. Was enjoyable to see the ATRs in the new Aer Lingus Regionals as well. Well done braving the conditions. 👍
Thankyou very much! 😁👍 They look great don't they! 😍 Cheers.
@@Mraviationguy Dudley ?? .... Moore ??
Wow very impressive footage! Quite challenging conditions for the crews. Always interesting to observe! ✈👍
Thankyou Matt! 😊🙌 Yes definitely a challenging day. 🌪️
@@Mraviationguy Challenging for photographers too?!!
You can say that again! 😅
You can say that again! 😅
I landed late last night at Luton on Airbus A321. Terriffic headwind at 36.000 ft. and ground speed much reduced, also very bumpy on descent. A/c flew very low on approach and dropped down just over the threshold applying reverse thrust immediately after. I was surprised at the lengthier-than-usual hedge skimming and likened the plop-down to a carrier landing!
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! 😀
We've had C17's and A400's practicing take off and landing from the nearby RAF base for last 3 days. Can't see them touch down from my house but wondered how they are faring in the storms. Flying very low but looking stable enough going over.
That was actually a good landing by the Ryanair pilot at 8:21. 🙂
Brilliant Footage! 🤩 Must Be A Real Challenge To Land In Them Conditions 👍🏻
Thankyou! 😆 Yeah I wouldn't fancy it. 😂
Fantastic video my friend 🙏🏼🙏🏼✈️
Thankyou! ☺️👌
that's some sweet camera work.... especially the edits (loved how you made the thumbnail show 3 planes landing on the tail of another)
Thankyou very much. 😀👍 Glad you liked the thumbnail too. 👌
Good job all round in difficult conditions. Especially good landings by EasyJet. Well impressed guys!
Me too, relatively soft landings by Esayjet with this kind of wind
My dad landed the one from alicante
some awesome pilot skills landing in these conditions
Nice footage and new subscriber excellent pilots in tough conditions 👏 💪 👍
Thankyou! Welcome to the channel. ✈️🙌 Excellent pilot skills as always, I agree!
Great editing! I was surprised there were no go-arounds 👍
Thankyou 😀
Nice filming mate ! I went to Heathrow yesterday afternoon . All of them were landing as normal.
Thankyou! 😆👍 Nice, I'm surprised there were no go arounds?!
Probs because it was a head wind at lhr yesterday.
@@pooletrainboy Exactly !
@@Mraviationguy I'v seen only one at 3pm Malaysia A350 airlines but it was very early go-around
You did went?.
Amazing pilot skills excellente bravo
Fun to watch. Some skilled pilots, I would be scared if I were a passenger. Good filming too. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! 👌😄
Super work!
Thankyou! 😀👍
Nice one that Aer Lingus 😊
Pilot Mad skills...crazy calm under pressure but I imagine a lot of praying passengers kissing the ground in Arrivals ') Thanks, that was thrilling ride.
Very skilled and professional as always, yes. 👍 Thankyou for watching! 🙏
Blödsinn, gelobt sei Autopilot.
This is one beautiful video ❤❤✈
Thankyou! 😆🙌
8:20 "Ryanair, you landed too soft - go around!"
nice captures!
😂 Thankyou! 🙏☺️
Beautiful landings in such a windy condicion well done to all the pilots whether first officers or captains just keep the wings level don't spill the tea lol
I saw this in my back yard two days ago but it was not an airplane. It was my neighbor's roof landing in my yard, and pool, and chicken coop, and rabbit enclosure. We had a cut of electricity so I opened a window for air and two seconds later, WHAM BOOM RATTLE CRASH, it was the money gust of the storm tossing a ton of roofing into my yard. Crazy as it sounds, the all day wind storm quieted down just a minute after taking the roof. It was a real exclamaition point to end the storm. I now realize that the rattling I had heard all day was the zinc flashing pulling itself out. The electrical folks actually repaired the line during the storm.
Excellent video, love the 4K quality! Do you know if the Aer Lingus ATRs were test flying ahead of the service launch in March?
Thankyou Brian! 👍😀 Yes that's right, they've been doing numerous training flights between Exeter and Bristol most days lately. Same again today! 😅
Those ATRs are horrible in the wind. I use them getting to work offshore via Shetlands
erm.... 5:04 & 12:24 & especially 13:19 & 16:43 er.....erm....Wow.....!!!!! Amazing the pilots got everyone down safely.....but possibly quite the clean up for the ground crew before the turnaround....!!!!!!!!!
excellent location to watch planes land and take off
Bet a few passengers were freaked out looking out their side window and seeing how diagonally they were approaching the runway. Especially that Air Lingus ones.
Fantastic video
Thankyou! 😀
Nicely done
Thanks for watching Rob! 😊🙏
Should be interesting at Bristol on Friday. Nice filming.
Thanks Trevor! 😆 Yeah, if anything even flies. 🤔
That last guy came in fast!
I know right 😬 Thanks for watching! 😀
In all these storm videos, I’ve never seen an Easy Jet pilot struggle to land - they must be very well trained
No complaints here. All amazing landings!
Indeed 💯👌 Thanks for watching. 😄
EI-GPP Crosswind legend! 👌
Brilliant touchdowns pilots all, in trying conditions.
Absolutely. 💯👍 Thanks for watching!
very well filmed mate may i asked do you stand on top of your car or van roof rake ETC
Thankyou! 😃 I was filming from on top of a stepladder on this occasion. 👌
отличное, прекрасное, захватывающее, видео спасибо
800th like! Awesome vid!
Thanks man! 😀😆
Pilot ...
ein schöner Beruf ...
Good stuff, not easy to get a view at Bristol. The cops chased me off once haha
Bristol approach G-XXXX request zone transit....negative. Has any GA managed to get transit of Bristol zone?
Good video. Bristol is distance wise 40 miles from my house. But over 3 hours to get to. London Heathrow for me
16:41 Now that's a signature Ryanair landing..
I wonder why they did not go aro... sorry, haven't seen the airline livery
u gotta respect these pilots, god skills
Those Ryanair landings may be good enough but easyJet's pilots really did great landings! Smooth as butter!
Welcome to Dudleyville... did anybody D-Von... Get the tables??? because those aircraft are about to get 3D'd!
Also interesting to see the contrast between Easy Jet and Ryanair here.
Easyjet - nice crabbage and butter landing
Ryanair - SOP's apply - Maximum hard landing
Some nice crabbing there by the ATR
what radio do you use to listen in to the freaquencies?
Uniden UBC125XLT. 👍 Thanks for watching!
My flight out of Heathrow tomorrow morning has already been delayed to later in the day. :-(
Great filming lets see what the storm brings tomorrow?
Thankyou! Indeed! 😬🌪️
Ryanair just had to remind us of their classic landing at the end LOL!!!!
😂😂 Thanks for watching! 👌
@10:00 that was actually such a good landing from the RYR
6:22 Nice display of wing vortices!
😍 Thanks for watching! 👍
Great video 👍 is this from a viewing area or a road ?
Just a layby next to a road. 😊 Thankyou! 👌
@@Mraviationguy thanks for the information 👍
Aer Lingus ATR 72-600 Pilots = Skillz!
many thanks for the video. The conclusion i drew was i am not going on aer lingus in windy weather. The wings on the top do not work as well it seems. On the bright side they all got down.
AL Regional fly ATR & Aer Lingus fly Airbus but think it will be ATR only in Bristol
Notice how they turn into the wind and then level off at the last minute to lineup with the runway. I think it’s called “crabbing” in order to keep the plane heading into the wind to counteract the wind forces and give the plane stability.
I luv air travel to sunny destinations. But I can tell you I do NOT want to be passenger on most of these flights ! I would be up-chucking that wonderful airline meal they served me !!!😅😅 Nice video work mate !😉😉 Had to edit here, my goodness who do those Irish Aer Lingus pilots think they are ??? Wanna be Canadian Cowboys' ??? Steady........ giddy up !!!!😲😲
1:47 *WOW That Sock looks real proud - best I could manage was a Force 3 !*
‘Holds head in hand’
Imagine naming simple storms. It’s Britain feeling left out from the USA because it doesn’t have hurricanes and so needs to start naming ‘cold depressions and strong winds’
A few puckered sphincters there, and that likely includes the flight deck.
So much for 'Planes fly themselves'.
That's a lot of souls landing safely under difficult conditions, with no room for error. Respect to all those Pilots.
I was their and it was crazy
Certainly was, tomorrow is even worse! Thanks for watching. 👌
I flew the atr while on furlough from major. It’s a fine airplane. But the combination of its high wing and lack of hydraulic boost for rudder made it a handful in crosswinds, especially for the novice. At first I struggled and was embarrassed. Eventually I got used to flying it.
Great to hear your hands on experience with the ATR! It certainly looks a handful. 😅 Thanks for watching! 👌
Great footage mate. I like bad weather filming. You use tripod?
Thankyou! 😀 No tripod. 👍
@@Mraviationguy Steady hand indeed. What cam?
@Aviatorspot A little bit of stabilisation in post-production does help. Sony RX10-IV.
@@Mraviationguy Top camera
Gonna be interesting with Eunice tomorrow
16:45 very fitting landing for ryaniar i like consistency in a airline
Old Style Runways were built as to accommodate variable winds..
Modern Runways are not, hence cross winds..
EasyJet…like a boss!
Lots of birds near the airfield 😳
Nice, winds pretty much on the nose by the sounds
Thankyou! 😆 Yeah it wasn't too much of a crosswind.
Not much reverse thrust needed in head - on gusts once them wheels are on the deck. Many fly arounds at Heathrow today for a second attempt at landing. Man and machine in perfect harmony.
Indeed, it was amazing to see how quickly aircraft stopped on the runway. 😯 Yeah I saw that! 👀 Thanks for watching! 👌
Did you get any footage on Friday 18th storm, before they cancelled flights?
Hi, I did indeed, 2 videos from Friday are already uploaded on my channel and the full landings video will be up tonight. 😀👍
@@Mraviationguy sweet, shall have a look. All I could do was listen from the other side of the Bristol channel about 35m LOS away, bit patchy at times with the weather but readable. Good that marine traffic was quiet though ;) .. Was expecting idiots needing rescue.
