While engines keep overheating I think the issue is that manufacturers save money and go cheap and small on radiators, trust me I found out the hard way! My rad was way too small so I installed one meant for a SCANIA truck and boy... I can floor it all day! The SCANIA radiator also has a built in oil cooler..so WinWin
what are the common reasons that piston rings wear out? My car seems to be burning oil..and I seem to take care of it in terms of routine maintenance. I change the OIL/Filter every 5000 kms..and I also do engine flush to get rid off any dirt. Can you explain why my car is burning oil, when I have done everything according to manual. Every month I have to add 1 litre of oil to the engine block....and I just don't understand why this is happening! Do the rings just wear out with age or as long as the proper maintenance is done then they should last. Thanks. Look forward to your feedback. PS: I have a HONDA ODYSSEY.
could be either pissin oil or drinking it. in a car a drinking problem can be many things. first check if you PCV is clean and working correctly. next undo your sparkplug and check their color, if they are black instead of brown, look if its all of them or just a couple.
Hello, my car got hot due to a puncture in the phalanx. Final result 3 scratched cylinders and pistons exactly as shown. Is there a solution for these pistons? Can I rectify the cylinder and put a piston 0.5 higher? Or new cylinders and new pistons. Best Regard
I am dealing with an mbe 4000 mercedes diesel that has both scuffing at 45 degrees from the piston pin(180 degrees spart) and several cracks that run from the bowl outward to the edge of the piston. Injectors were tested( found to be functional). I cant find much info on diesel piston failure. Can you help?

Each case is different when a failure occurs. It is best to contact our division directly and discuss a specific failure. Can there be a failure of the rings with no pin galling - yes. Is it from lack of lubrication or was it due to for example incorrect ring gap? In these situations, we ask that a customer consult with our engineering department directly with specifics about their application.
Would improper valve adjustments make it over heat? This guy has my brakes and now it's overheating and I never had that problem before how can I check it cuz I need the scooter for work please help me before my engine seizes because I am losing power and not to sign right
Hi. I need help. I purchased a brand new car, and it’s making a “scratching gear” noise when i do stop, and accelerate. Took the car for its first maintainance and point the issue, but they heard the noise and told me were the pistons; and asked me if i was paying for Premium gasoline… I said No. But is this enough to start giving problem to a 3k miles car? I use 93 Octane fuel. Whenever i accelerate to start going uphill, it makes that slip/scratching metal noise
Have a tick that goes away after it warms up but , using oil and low oil pressure and #3 cylinder has oil soaked plug. So what happened thinking ring broke or stuck and didn’t seat to walls before it stuck, or piston failure with skirt or something on those lines , what do you think it could be going to take it back out and discover what went wrong and fix it before it goes

Great information. I had a blocked oil cooler, on a hot day, and this caused an increase in oil temperatures that caused ring / piston failure.

Everything is a guess until we can view the parts. If an oil ring broke it could have further implications causing damage to other parts of the motor.

It can, anytime you have metal moving around in an environment that it was not designed to be in it can lead to damage and failure.
