When I think of bowling, I think of the Flintstones...

I guess it was conceivable that an "inspiring" bowling movie could have had some traction back then, since we actually used to watch bowling on national TV on the weekends in the '70s. But when a dramatic highlight is a guy hurting his thumb, and wondering if he can overcome such adversity, the creators clearly were out to lunch. I don't even remember this flick at all, and it would take movies like Kingpin and The Big Lebowski in the '90s before any good movies with bowling got made.

I guess you had to go the raunchy comedy route to make a good bowling movie.

Flashbacks to 1979....when I was a junior league bowler...and not gonna lie...I enjoyed this movie. Where does the Rocky reference comes in? Not sure what these guys were smokin before talking about this movie. Is it a GREAT movie? NO. Is it Rocky? NO. Is it a decent bowling movie.....yeah. No, it's not Kingpin, but Kingpin wouldn't have been made in 1979. If that makes me old...cool, happy to be there. Do I still bowl? Unfortunately, no. knee issues. No mention of Matheson just being in Animal House the year before...a weird follow up movie, but still enjoyed it.

It took me years and years to catch up to this movie. When I finally did, it wasn’t so hot. It’s okay at best.

Nothing wrong with this movie, I saw it back in early 1980's on local tv station. I watched Siskel & Ebert maybe 3 or 4 times, they were not worth my time.

My father was an avid league bowler and took me to see this movie. We agreed that it was pretty bad. It's basically "Rocky" in a bowling alley, and that sport doesn't exactly lend itself to good drama like boxing does.

I'll take KINGPIN released decades later over what seems like an incredibly dull piece of shiite. Wow Tim Matheson you've done better.
