Even before starting intermittent dieting “officially”, I always had my last meal by 6 pm. Otherwise, I found it impossible to lose weight no matter how few calories I ingested. Now I am on a 16/8 schedule starting 10 am to be finished by 6, but usually having my last meal about 4-5 pm. The weight is coming off much faster and with far fewer plateaus. It works!

Male or female, there obviously is/are some good results from eating only in a limited window. One of the big things I have done (and dropped some weight) is to only eat between noon and 6:oo PM or so. This age old thing about eating breakfast that Doctors have been telling us for years needs to be re-examined. Once I start eating, it seems to make me hungry, no matter what foods or proteins I eat, and I want to eat more and/or I am hungry all day. But by limiting it to this window, I seem to have reduced those cravings that I normally have that make me want to eat more.

The only real issue I had with this video was his mention of not combining foods. The body, in fact, is very smart. It breaks down everything you eat, regardless of how you "mix" your foods, into their molecular components, then reorganizes those nutrients in the best way for the body to absorb and utilize. Anyone who has ever taken medical classes in medical physiology and has a basic understanding of nutrition is very aware of this. In fact, it is highly recommended that you combine protein, fat and carbs in order to slow down absorption and not spike blood glucose. This is especially important for pre-diabetics and diabetics to understand, but a good rule of thumb for everyone.

When I started taking arginine and having protein within first 2 hours work, I started feeling strong and notice firmer skin and looking better.

My body is always a mess if I ever eat at night, whether it's my only meal of the day or not.
I know most people do their OMAD at night, but I can't at all, it's awful.
    I do 10am - 3/4pm.
I think there's definitely a lot of sense to it. It gives your digestive system time to work on your meals, so that when you're sleeping your body can work on repairing your body, rather than trying to digest! Sleeping isn't the time for that. I always am so much better rested and ready for the day instead of sluggish.
I have been doing this for years and definitely think it's the way to go, at least for me. It was hard at first but eventually you simply don't get hungry at night anymore.
Every once in a while I'll eat late (dinner time) for some reason e.g. dinner at a restaurant or the pre-menstrual week and I feel quite unwell compared to normal.
I think anyone who hasn't tried it should give this style of eating a chance.

I’ve found that the 2 weeks prior to my cycle, I have EXTREME hunger in the mornings and anxiety when trying to intermittent fast.
I’ve even experienced that without a slight influx of calories during PMS, that getting my period seems to be prolonged.
Anyone else experience any of these things?
I do feel better eating more at the beginning of my eating window for sure.
I try to eat more fat 2 weeks prior to my cycle but intuitively, my body also wants carbs. As long as I choose healthier whole food carb sources, I have been feeling overall more satisfied and emotionally stable.
If I try to count calories at ANY point in the month… I eat sooooooo much more. It just doesn’t work for me any more. Every body is different and that includes honoring the changes that come with age, the seasons, and what’s going on in your life.
Thank you Thomas for these spectacular videos!

    • @Rambutan.

The week before my cycle is when I notice some changes.
I don't do intermittent fasting the week before, and eat more carbs.
I also make a point to eat more progesterone increasing foods such as mussels/oysters and anchovies.
The carbs tend to be mostly sweet potato & hommus, sometimes a sneaky low-carb bar (or 4 or 5 lol but anyway..)
My normal eating window is 10am - 3/4pm.
I learned that when I ignore my body's signals before my cycle it doesn't work out well in the long run. It's easier for me to maintain my weight when I listen to my body.
My extra hunger actually hits in the evenings rather than the mornings so that's different, are you sure you're eating enough the day before?

I stopped doing IF and little by little my normal cycle is coming back, but it is not still the same quantity as before. I wish I'd had known this earlier. Dr Berg recommends not to eat lean protein due to the higher spike of insulin. Protein+fat (e.g. not the plain chicken breast but the part with the skin on it or organ/red meat) will have more nutrients and less insulin rise, which we all know is the cause of storing fat.

Sorry Thomas, I’ve been ignoring the advice up to note and eating dinner around 8-9pm. I feel like I have no choice as that’s when my gf gets home from work and we can get dinner together. I’m still losing 3-4.5 lbs per week and if I plateau before reaching my goal I’ll definitely review your other videos suggesting earlier eating, stopping dinner and eating breakfast instead.
But I’m so close to my goal!!! I don’t want to change anything if I keep dropping the lbs.
My only concern now is getting rid of this “much smaller” belly but belly nonetheless. I promised my gf and kids a six pack.

You do have a choice. You can be with her while she's eating without having to eat at the same time. I do this with my family a lot.
Every once in a while if we want to go for a meal to eat together they will have lunch instead of dinner. Once in a blue moon I'll have dinner but it's only a couple times a year at most.
You should do what's best for your health.

Hi Thomas, greetings from the other side of the world 🇬🇧
I'm following you since I've started keto and added fasting. I'm 49, perimenopausal, my period it's veri irregular right now. 3 times in 40 days and then nothing for 2 months. So I never know when is my pre period weeks. How should I apply keto and fasting? I'm currently doing keto, during the working days (Mon to Thursday) Fasting for 22 hours (I have a bulletproof coffee in the morning with almond milk zero carbs and homemade ghee from grass fed butter, nothing for the rest of the day except water, then I eat at home around 6pm trying to stay into my macros I've used the Mifflin St Jeor equation to get my macros) then Fri Sat and Sunday I switch the eating time from dinner to lunch and adding some light meal in the evening. I've lost 11kg in 6 months doing this. I would like to know if I'm dojng right or there is something more I can do for loose weight. Ps started as BMI 41 now 37
    Thank you in advance

Along with that, I started eating later in the day because I'm just not hungry until around 4. But I have been GAINING WEIGHT. Which is very unusual for me overall.

I believe that women are better in fasting than men. They don’t feel dizzy 90% of times no matter what fad diet they follow. Compatibly men tend to feel tired and dizzy while prolonged fasting.
The problem here is men loose weight with just a little lesser calorie intake . While women needs to cut down on everything that’s bad and also sometime the good to keep the weight on check.
I have always felt better on a omam diet
But surely those cravings in morning and night I used to break them by drinking water or being too busy on any other work.
My body cannot handle too much fatty foods. Ofcourse I feel lighter on low carb ! And also the best on low carb. But predominantly being on high fat diet is something my body cannot handle.
esp for people with low thyroid , bacterial imbalance , sibo or anything similar !!!

It is important to point out the study mentioned in this video did not take into account daily caloric recommendation and general healthy habits. This simply means if you are supposed to eat 2000 calories and end up eating 2500 calories with the majority of the extra eaten at night you are likely to develop metabolic syndrome and obesity. However, if you keep it within your daily recommended caloric intake as well as quit smoking, alcohol and add exercise there is less to no impact. Also worth noting is that this study was done in people already categorized as "overweight or obese" according to baseline characteristics such as waist circumference.

Is it always better to fast?
I have reactive Hypoglycemia (had to give up refined sugar when I was very young) and get really sick when I fast. I am extremely thin 106-109lbs and 5’8” medically underweight and have masculine build (huge shoulders and tiny hips) high muscle to fat ratio for a woman.
I’m about to get a blood sugar monitor to find out what goes on throughout the day.
My monthly cycle doesn’t seem to suffer no matter how thin I get. I got down to 95lbs once during a time of stress and my cycle was still like clockwork.
I’ve been keto for 5 years and low carb most of my life. I started keto because even with low carb diet I would get extreme crashes if I didn’t eat little meals every few hours.
Eating a large meal makes me feel really tired and awful. I’d like the healing power of fasting but get extremely weak, dizzy, confused, cold, shaking when I try to fast
My “fasting blood sugar” for my yearly medical basically just no breakfast with a morning appointment) is low but not in the danger zone but I feel if I go much longer than 17 hours I start to get sick.

    • @Rambutan.
      @Rambutan. 2 роки тому +1

I also have hypoglycemia. I used to regularly check my blood sugar, but I actually noticed that the levels that are considered normal for most people are way too high for me.
My fasting blood sugar is 2.8 and for me to get to say 5 I just feel so anxious and stressed, sometimes very sleepy.
My advice to you is yes start monitoring your levels, but don't pay too much attention to it.
Start listening to your body and please try to stop following your head instead of your body.
Extended fasts might not be for you at the moment, I can't do them anymore and now just do IF.
I actually also can't do keto really for long either. I do VLCD, I feel good long term doing this.
As much as I want the benefits of keto and extended fasts, it just doesn't work well for me.
I don't have spikes very often these days. For the most part no crashes either, however yes sometimes.
I have been doing 10am-3pm for a couple years now. I had to reduce my window extremely slowly because we are taught to eat regularly to stabilise our blood sugars, but I think eating regularly is actually the problem that causes this issue.
By the way, have you been checked for insulinomas?
