I've been making music since I was in high school (I'm 44 now). Been through so many hardware samplers, MPC500, MPC1000, MPC2000, Boss SP303, BOSS SP505, Roland 404SX, KORG Electribe ES 1 and more recently I've been using Maschine. I bought Koala a couple of days ago and it makes all that hardware seem silly. The fact that I can make beats on my phone now is incredible. I will probably export finished beats to my PC in order to mix them or arrange into albums but apart from that I'll be using Koala.
Companies should take note on how to create intuitive UI from this app. Everything works exactly how my mind naturally wishes it would in the most streamlined and efficient way possible. It should honestly get some sort of award or recognition for how good it is. Thank you so much for this amazing tool.
@@ajanitruth yeah i can't really put my finger on it, i feel like a big company would have to spend much of their budget just to achieve something as easy to learn as koala's, it's not overwhelming, it lets you do what you want and quite quickly, i've even started using the pc equivalent despite all the other programs out there for music making
big companies either overthink or underthink design and UI. Similar to an I.T. shop at an agency, they develop their mission based on making it easier for them to manage and implement security and don't go the extra mile or give a hot damn about how their affecting agency productivity or in the case of poorly designed apps, how much people may love the functionality of their app but loathe the hoops they have to go through to do what they need to do. Apple is a case of design over functionality. They've recently relented and added the ports back to their laptops that users wanted(still waiting for a headphone jack to be added back to iOS devices)but, they pay a little too much attention to aesthetics.
This is an impressive little app. It's the best introduction for new producers, and it's a nice tool for experienced producers if you get the mixer for $5.
This is one of very few iOS music apps that are perfectly crafted for it's intended function. I do prefer to use it over my hardware samplers, workflow is so seamless!
Dude, you're a genius. I've just discovered your app - coming from the guitar/pedals realm and making dark, weird music with a looper, I was looking to experiment. Running my pedal board into my iPad and using your app is going to be so much fun. The way you demo the UI in this video blows my mind, it's amazing. You have created such a fantastic app. Bloody oath, mate!

Works if I press the samples on the iPad, but logistically that's not ideal.
Thank you for this fantastic app! This IAP update is essential. I love how easy it was to use Koala in AUM as an IAA plug in. Everything sync'd right up and worked with the AUM transport. You guys ROCK!! Also funny timing as I just started re-watching Samurai Jack on HBO Max.
@@frankgibson8960 as good as the po-33 is, this app makes the 33 and its limitations look like dog shit for the price honestly i don't even feel compelled to use my op-1 anymore, koala does everything i want and more (time stretching is a massive bonus)
This is insane. I’ve always wanted to sample or learn how to. Found out about Koala in December and did nothing that entire month but learn the app inside and out and I began making beats and samples. THIS update is a game changer, I was to the point where I really wanted to get a MacBook and a different more in depth software, but this fixes that for me almost entirely. The people at Elf Audio are geniuses 🙌🙏🔥
Just discovered Koala, andI haven't been this excited about anything since Polyend Tracker. Huge thanks for providing the option of retro timestretching, I can already imagine making classic jungle sounds.
I love Koala, and got the first upgrade/add-on for AUV3 to use it with Cubasis. Didn't think I needed Samurai, but this just convinced me otherwise. Great video!

Been using FL Studio since 2011. Recently stopped using FL and started using Koala because a friend of mine was using it and I got curious. I can easily say Koala is the best thing I ever used for music. Been making beats nonstop on my IPad on Koala since I started using it.
Just discovered this app yesterday. It's really great. Although I wish there would be 2bar countdown before recording starts so I wouldnt have to wait if I have 4 bar sequence. I love this app.
Amazing to see all the new features. I love the legato, that's going to save me so much time. I used to play and replay melodies to try to make them sound smooth!
samurai mode rocks! Bought for iOs some time ago and just bought for my android phone. Piano roll in sequencer for me is big game changer. Thanks a lot!)
A play through mode( sample overlap) and being able to play sliced samples in keyboard mode up to 64 slices and a ( Key detection mode and also “ non destructive “ sample editing so a sample can overlap when editing
I want to say I admire your coding skills, it is really a great piece of software..Maybe for a future feature, add length of samples on the pads, like an indicator as used on the Boss RC-505 loop station! Keep up the good work..I will support you by upgrading to future add ons! This piece of art of software makes me happy every day! Thank you for that! 😊
idk what more they could add but i'd gladly throw more cash at it, i spent £3.99 on the app itself and £0.99 on the upgrade (google play gave me a discount for some reason), £4.98 for something that already does way more than my op-1 and po-33, and does it so much more efficiently too
Koala is amazing and is saving me so much money on hardware! Frankly it’s better than most hardware. A few feature requests that I’d be willing to pay for: 1. Allow the user to change clip launch behavior. I’d love the new clip to start after the one before it runs it’s course rather than immediately. 2. Allow user to mute individual instruments in a sequence as it’s running 3. Pattern chaining 4. Allow AUV effects or more effects in the app like full ADSR, delay etc I love the app as is but I’d totally pay for those features!
Holy shit this is such a game changer!!! Finally an Android friendly music app that's actually great. I've loved koala for a long time but this is massive! The only other thing I would love to see added in the future is more options to manipulate samples (amplitude envelope, lfo etc) but this will keep me happy for a long time
Great video. I have to say, however that I find the equal chop setting INCREDIBLY useful. If you've already gotten the sample to a perfect number of bars (say, 4 for example) then it's great. That's the most common chopping method out there, historically. It's a great way to flip a drum loop or chop a vocal. Great video, though. Didn't mean to only come in seeming negative. I found the video super helpful because it brought a few things to light that I hadn't considered. Just want'ed to share that specific thought. Thanks for posting!
Correct! Historically accurate. Cutting the 2 bar Amen Brother break or the Apache break into 16 equally timed pieces is what made certain drum patterns for certain genres & later influenced sampling technique in Hip Hop on the MPCs with their 16 pads.
Thanks for the overview. I appreciate it. If you have any access to the people at Koala, please ask them if they could do an update on the play & record button size it's to small on iPhone 📱 especially if you have big hands. Thanks! Ps. Happy New Year!

Now I'd like to see if you can have different sequences with different tempos.
You could still do that the old fashioned way through resampling.
Can be faded between created scenes (like with the Octatrack fader)!

This would be a great addition
I love the app, but I miss the note repeater function and a 3-band equalizer, just a few ideas for an upcoming update.
