6 years latter still brings me chills and brings back memories of having my own dvs system and now im a resident dj at one of the hottest clubs in my city
>This is what technology was SUPPOSED to be used for, not to just to "sync" 2 songs together and play songs like that through the party. THIS is a true DJ UTILIZING technology
It's Craze. He's been doing this on vinyl for decades. Moving to digital is simply evolution. Our job as DJ's is to do everything we can to please crowds. That's it. As a house DJ, I switched to digital because it means that instead of taking two 80lb cases with 200 records in them, I can take a hard drive with every track I've ever owned which means I can do a better job for my crowd. I can scratch on cdj's just as well as on vinyl. I can sample from movies, I can loop on the fly, I can set fixed cue points...Vinyl is fine, but to be competitive and to maximize out ability to please crowds, we've had to evolve beyond it. With this video in mind specifically, I'll point out that he's still using vinyl - albeit control vinyls - but in addition to that, he's also integrated pads and samples, is using organic percussion techniques, and has constructed a scratch routing every bit as complex (if not a great deal more complex) than what was possible in the past. Would it be impressive if he did that with just vinyl? Sure. Would it be impressive if someone excavated a construction site with just a shovel? Yeah, clearly. Doesn't mean that it's efficient, though, or that it gets the job done well or that it's even possible. As a DJ of 20 years who has played extensively on both vinyl and digital, I can tell you that it's not the medium that's important. It's what you do with it. Would it be fair to say that when Les Claypool plays his Whamola that he's not really playing an instrument? Don't forget that when turntablism started, we were ridiculed by musicians who play organic instruments as "not actually doing anything" which any scratch DJ can tell you is absurd. Don't find yourself guilty of the same faulty logic.
Some like the different angles so they can see how he's using the other equipment as well. I have the Scratch Pro 2 and have been thinking about getting a controller.
So glad this guy still uses his old school skills in conjunction with the new stuff. Ya a lot of DJ's can do some cool stuff on the wheels but they look bored and are subsequently bor-ing. Thanks Craze for bringing a touch of the old school back n sounding flippin sweet while you do it!
+Braeden Skoleski yes, but problem's still the same. The 2013 debate about dmc world champion Fly having preproduced had never taken place without that garbage
Normaly ther is envy betwen DJs, I am a old DJ, I have performe with lost of djs, around the occidental world for years, I can say , This guy is the last one of the good ones, to be a young guy he has the old stile with new gears, He is realy respected DJ, I haven 'e see lately some one better than Craze. Is a placer to wacth hes performance. great , bravo.
@ everyone asking: He's using a "dvs" (digital vinyl system) controlling Traktor Scratch Pro and a Kontrol X1. Nothing is coming from the vinyl per se... All the music and samples are on the computer. Traktor Scratch Pro can use 4 "decks" each configurable for tracks or samples so while he's controlling 2 tracks with dvs he's also triggering samples from two more "sample decks" with the X1. In addition he is juggling cue points set on the track decks. There's a lot going on in that mix and Craz
pretty cool video programming. I also like the automated edited tracks. and the fact that your able to just do tricks usually no longer than 3 mins... and then just power down and go into a new routine. pretty dope. though i wish the camera would just stay on 1 frame. but then again the flashy glam makes everything cooler to the average. woohoo! love me some video hype.
I got to spend time and hang out with him when he came to Phoenix AZ, got to pick him up from his hotel and chill with him lol, he even took like 20 fucking pictures with me and shit, dude was super fucking down to earth, he even looked for my friend DJ Don V and me to say good bye after his set was done..DJ CRAZE ALL DAY!!
@MyDJdnL Nah I was hyped he was rocking that. Raida was the man and a hero of mine. I'm actually going to a tribute event for him tomorrow in Brooklyn. A-Trak, Premiere, and The X-ecutioners are spinning for him. I've actually been trying to find that shirt. Hopefully they have they to purchase tomorrow.
@dolphinnightmare the buttons are for effects and load samples/tunes onto the deck. You choose the sample/tune and click what deck you want it to load on. Then control on the deck same as a record.
Justin got me the Kontrol X1 thing (next to the laptop in the vid) for my birthday. I"m sure I'll sound just like DJ Craze now. Check out the other DJ Craze/Traktor vid that comes up in the UA-cam search results too, it's pretty cool.
The Gold 1200's were given out to DMC World Champions back when Technics was still in business and sponsoring the DMC, so Craze must have 4 pairs of these at home^^ He has golden faceplates on in this video though, the stock faceplate is black. Now that Rane is the main DMC sponsor, they give out golden Rane Sixty-Eight mixers to the winners.
i just came from a dj dummy channel and people said dummy was colder than this guy craze.I never heard of any of them so i came here to see for myself this dude hands down is better dj dummy.
he is banned from competing in the DMC Championships anymore because he has won to many times...
respect to a living legend
He isn't though. He simply abdicated his throne. Qbert did the same in other aspects of dj competition.
dope
Bro. This is the guy with that guitar case in the bar. Who then murks the murks
He was banned because he was destroying any hardware he can.
It's 2019 and this is still my favorite routine!
it’s 2023 and it’s still my favorite
@@cotyhoepfner9380it’s 2024 and it’s still my favorite
11 years ago I discovered this crazy routine. I'm still amazed today 😍
Same here!
i still remember when this just came out i was showing it to everyone i know and they were ALL hooked
The very first time I discovered dj craze and showed all my friends.
10 years ago this guy blew my
Mind
Same!
what a routine!
listened to this as a kid 13 years ago.
Feels like visiting an old friend
6 years latter still brings me chills and brings back memories of having my own dvs system and now im a resident dj at one of the hottest clubs in my city
Yet no one has heard of you
@@roasty80 says the loser that uploads synth covers of his fav movie themes ur a pathetic loser
honestly. this is fantastic. I wish more dj's did it this way.
>This is what technology was SUPPOSED to be used for, not to just to "sync" 2 songs together and play songs like that through the party. THIS is a true DJ UTILIZING technology
i watched this 12 years ago for the first time and it still blows my mind today. just unreal
Hes the man and you know that,, he got flavor for over 20 years ,, omfg,, bow down to the master
Hey kids - notice that he's still able to maintain a beat and rhythm. Juggling doesn't have to mean atonal and arhythmic.
Now, if he did that on 2x SL1200's, with the original vinyl....now, THAT would be impressive!
He already did all that shit 10 years ago, dude is legend, doesn't have to prove anything anymore.
@Martyn Timmis
You're joking, right?
Steve. This guy is good. No doubt! But you cannot dispute someone if they did the same on vinyl dex?

Song Name : Joker - City Hopper
Thank you. I have this on vinyl and couldn't remember what it was called. Ripping that shit out shortly 🙏
most people would prefer to just maintain one camera angle so we can observe and how he's actually scratching and playing
Some like the different angles so they can see how he's using the other equipment as well. I have the Scratch Pro 2 and have been thinking about getting a controller.
Most people can just shut up and quit bitchin

This video is legendary, with the fact this marked the future direction of how vinyl turntablism would become today.
GOLD 1200's!
Ron G, he has 3 sets of them.
no sync....like a fucking boss
Mix is good, but who the F listens to that garbage?
yeah, the most skilled turntablists are doin the ugliest edm-shit now, just no fun anymore
+Braeden Skoleski yes, but problem's still the same. The 2013 debate about dmc world champion Fly having preproduced had never taken place without that garbage
Your mother.
DJ Craze is the illest dude you could ever meet. hands down
Still awesome 12 years later!
One of the first scratchings i enjoy, really nice to let the songs come through and not just keep scratching :)!
Awsome
I love traktor
Nice to see someone professional showing us how it’s truly done
practice every day. im learning myself and i was finally able to create my own beat through scratches today. its a fantastic feeling.

Those are DMC Championship decks you win for being the best man!
Iv never seen this kind of mixing b4. So far i like it and wish i had his set up.
I Had To Watch This Video 3 Times to Actual Comprehend The Coolness That He Posseses Possess
The fader at the bottom is called a Crossfader, you can use it for snaps between tracks.
The faders above it are the faders that patch to the decks.
I have no other words... , it's beautiful
why do people even bother disliking things as good as this?
See ,I can't stand this kind of music but this is talent.
This took some skill, some learning, some rhythm.....I respect this.
Probably the best Dj-Video, I`ve senn on youtube !!!

They are gold plated 1210s, which you can quite easily pick up if you win the DMC World Championships. Craze has a few pairs of them.

I WANT THESE TURNTABLES!!!!
You win gold plated decks as part of being the DMC Champion. Nice.
I wish there was a longer version of this..
That's what I'm talking about Gold turntables!!!! ,Nice
The Gold 1200's were given out to DMC World Champions back when Technics was still in business and sponsoring the DMC, so Craze must have 4 pairs of these at home^^
He has golden faceplates on in this video though, the stock faceplate is black.
