Hello there, saludos from Portoviejo! Not sure if I’m the only one who thinks “saludos” sounds so much more normal than “greetings” lol Anyways a few things, first I’ve been hearing a lot about Quito’s weather just being so random. Like a video I saw where it was 1PM and it was sunny, at 3 it got dark, and then like half an hour later it just rained like crazy. The second thing, I’m actually surprised it’s cold, my dad was there when it supposedly was/got cold and he went all prepared and when he came back he was like “it was hoooot”. Maybe that’s due to the randomness of the weather and he just so happened to get the “warmer days” but still something I thought I should say. And third, the cost of living is hit or miss because it depends on your lifestyle and the city you’re in. I kinda feel like Quito is definitely a more expensive city and then depending on where you shop it’ll definitely cost more for some things, that’s why my dad is always bargain hunting in mercados and such and even I look for the sweeter deals in comisariato instead of buying in supermaxi, tho the difference between those two isn’t much compared to mercados. It also depends on what you’re coming with, like if you come with a retirement pension and live in a cheap coastal city then it’s gonna be cheap and paradise but if you come and have to work jobs here then it’s gonna feel equally expensive and maybe worse because the pay isn’t the best here. But yeah too much ranting from my part lol, as for a video idea if you ever want to collab, maybe compare Portoviejo and Quito let me know! 👏🏼

I lived in Cuenca for a month many years ago and it was funny listening to the first segment of your video, because I noted the same things: gloomy, constantly changing weather, how cold it was indoors and the need for multiple wool blankets to sleep, and the altitude! Walking up stairs took me out. Wishing y'all all the best!
Did you? Okay, see I don't feel crazy for some of what I mentioned lol. Omg, yes! Hills and stairs are so hard for me, especially when I have baby in his carrier. Wishing you the best too! Take care.
Moved to Cuenca 3.5 years ago and have ZERO regrets !!! Single 72 yr old female ..Why did she move here without thorough research of all factors..Cuenca is at 8675 ft. What did you expect weather wise?? Go move to the coast !!!
Scratching my chin about this video. I am surprised that you guys were surprised by the weather. Also, this is the first video I have seen (out of hundreds) that does not indicate it is much cheaper to live Ecuador than the USA. Friends I have living there full time all talk about how inexpensive it is, and while I have only spent a month there I found it to be very inexpensive as well. So, your video was surprising to me. I found that buying things at Mega Maxi was more expensive than I thought - but when we bought at the Mercado or Tias - it was much cheaper. Maybe clothes, shoes and furniture are not very cheap? I bet disposable diapers are more expensive(?). And it is clear that electronics are not cheap. But there are many who leave the US and live on Social Security down there - not an easy feat in the US. Would you consider a video on your monthly expenses?
Hey John, thank you so much for watching my video! I appreciate your support. As stated in this video, I had never traveled to Ecuador before. I haven’t even traveled in the region, so I’ve experienced many new things since living here. Honestly, some of the information that was out there concerning the weather wasn’t in a form that was relatable to me, so I did not do as much research as others would have, which is why I made this video for people like me. You mention that you have friends living in Ecuador. Where exactly do they live, or did they live? Where did you live? I live in Quito, somewhat closer to the mountains and some volcanoes, so we are pretty high up in elevation. I assumed the climate in Quito would be similar to that in Cumbaya, about 30 minutes away. But that has not been the case. And although yes, the weather has been surprising to me, I am adjusting, and I am still enjoying my time here in Ecuador, so I don’t see the weather as a negative thing. It’s just something I wish I had known before arriving so I could be better prepared. As I stated in this video, items for my family might be more expensive because we are not drastically changing our habits. This means we are not shopping at local markets for our everyday needs. We are shopping at big box stores where prices are, in fact, standard or a little bit more than what we are used to in Colorado, which is where we are from. We have previously also lived in Washington, DC, and I would say prices in the DC, Virginia area are, in fact, comparable, if not higher, than they are here in Quito, Ecuador. So I would say we would not base our cost of living on more expensive states in the United States; we are going based on what our cost of living is in Colorado. So this is based on my and my family's experience. I wouldn’t say it encompasses the experience of all expats living in Ecuador for a month to many years. I’d be curious to hear more perspectives from other people as well. In regard to sharing our monthly expenses at this time, I probably won’t do a video like that, but you can check out my grocery haul video that I recently put on my channel. It details how much we spend in two weeks at a big box store like Super Maxi, and if you double that, that is about how much we spend on food for a month. Thank you again for stopping by. I hope this was helpful.
Great video! Lima was very gloomy & it made me sad honestly. But when the sun came out, it was soo beautiful. Now I’m thinking maybe Quito might not be the best fit 😢

I am from Quito living in Europe, that is why they say Quito is like women’s character, changing all the time. In one day you have 4 seasons, spring in the morning, summer at noon, autumn in the afternoon and winter at night. I had to come to Europe to know what real cold was, however Quito can be chilly, and don’t forget, Ecuador has 2 seasons, dry and rainy, so in rainy season, rains everyday and it is the biggest rain ever either you are in the Amazon, Sierra or Costa. I think Galapagos has different weather in general. If you like Quito but expect warmer, go to live in the surrounding valleys like Cumbayá few minutes drive. Houses in Quito Dont need heater or a/c, when it is chilly wear warmer. If you use heater you will start to sweat. Any house has heater. When it is warmer open all windows with the breeze it is enough and light clothes.
Very cool! Yes, I agree with you. The weather changes frequently in Quito. And yes, I agree with you. It's cold in Quito but compared to other places, the weather here is actually perfect. Cumbaya is so warm compared to where Quito. It's interesting because it's not that far. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Thanks for sharing your experiences about moving to Ecuador. You mentioned bringing of things. I'm assuming you mean shipping household goods. Can you please elaborate on the process you went through and what/how much you shipped? That's my quandary - trying decide what to bring. Thanks!
You are welcome! Yes, household goods. We had a shipping company pack up our personal goods and they took care of shipping our items to Ecuador. I don't recall how much we shipped but it was a lot. We ship what we need to make our place a home. But some of our furniture came with our apartment so we didn't have to add a full furniture allowance into consideration.
What were your expectations with the weather before moving? excluding buying things, are rent and utilities similar to what they would be in the US? did you move because of a job?
I expected the weather to be a bit warmer like it is in a town that's only 15 minutes away. But because I wasn't familiar with the area we currently lived in, I didn't know it would be drastically cooler throughout the day. Yes, things here in general are cheaper than in the US. And yes, we moved because of a job.
@@TheJazzyNation1 I'm just surprised you learned about the weather in Cumbayá or the Valleys before learning about Quito, in any case good luck, and I hope you get to enjoy Ecuador and learn more about it during your stay.
I live in the same climate (Seaside, Ca) on the Monterey Peninsula. Except that we can't make it here. In this area 50k is poor. Double that to scrape by. The median rent here is $2600 mo and the median price for a house is 800k.
@TheJazzyNation1 Hola. I do like it here but I don't like the weather a lot of the time. The climate isn't exactly the same as what you mentioned but similar. I should have been more precise. Our temperature is 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit all year round, with some exceptions. September and October frequently have warmer weather. But it is often foggy here and damp and cold in the mornings and foggy nights with biting wind. Usually, it's overcast except for a few hours in the afternoons. Kinda depressing to me, but many people like it here on the coast. Many foreigners like it too since it's well known, with places like Pebble Beach, Carmel, and Big Sur, and one of the reasons why it's so expensive. But we do have microclimates here. And it's not constantly raining like Seattle or even as bad as Portland, but It's still not warm enough for me. I think 75-85 degrees would be perfect every day. At least it never snows! Thanks for your videos and for sharing your life experiences abroad. I find them beneficial as we are planning retirement abroad, but we aren't sure where. I hope you and your family are well and your life is rewarding and prosperous wherever you call home. Best wishes.
Ecuador has ozone issues that’s why the sun hits harder in Ecuador. I love Ecuador! Don’t give up it has potential let’s just wait for the “storm” to pass 😜
Omg yessssssss we feel that way too. It’s crazy we’re all here and we want to go out but it has to be early. 😢Yessss it goes from us using a short sleeve to then a sweater and then you need a rain jacket or umbrella ☔️😅😂😅🤣 that tripped us out too 🙌🏼🥰
I am like that sometimes. I think now that we've set up our home the way we like it (compared to when we first arrived) we enjoy staying inside a lot more.
For us, rent is comparable to what we would pay for an apartment in the U.S. But it is not an expense we calculate monthly because it is covered as a part of my husband's job. We have not had any major medical experiences here. When we've been to the doctor for minor treatments, we've submitted claims to our insurance in the U.S.
@@TheJazzyNation1 yes, it was interesting because I never felt like that but during that time I noticed a difference in my mood (my feelings were hurt lol). I didn’t rely have a coping strategy. I just focused on my goal which was to move to a new city.
I'm planning a trip to Manta as i hope to retire outside of the US, somewhere hot, near the coast where I live affordably and peaceably thank you for sharing your perspective.

Girl I don't know how much money you need to live but ecuador is very inexpensive to live...we live in cuenca ecuador...monthly in the states we spent 3,000 monthly now we spend 1,500 and that gives us extra money to travel. We don't have a car because you don't need one. It is just the 2 of us and we own pur condo. So that saves money too. But ecuador is way cheaper to live comfortably compared to the states.
Complaining about the whether is not necessarily first world problems as it is climate problems. Reality is there some places in the states or even the world that just get better whether and all 4 season compared to other places. First world problem is more like complaining your seat doesn’t recline at the movie theater😂

Take aways so far 1. It rains during rainy season. 2. The sun can give you sunburns. 3. "When it's cold it's cold" 4. Use a space heater when it's cold outside. 5. It's expensive to buy rugs. 6.OMG she doesn't stop talking about cold shit. 7. Walking uphill is harder than not walking up hill. 8. Vehicles that are designed to go up hills easier go up hills easier than vehicles that aren't designed to go up hills. 9. Things cost money to buy. 10. Travel is not as accessible than in the United States.

I live in the same climate (Seaside, Ca) on the Monterey Peninsula. Except that we can't make it here. In this area 50k is poor. Double that to scrape by. The median rent here is $2600 mo and the median price for a house is 800k.
Wow, very interesting. Do you like Seaside, Ca?
That’s interesting I’ll do more research on that! And yes, I just posted a new video of me trying to get out of this rut! Thanks for watching!
It’s not ozone … it’s geography! The country’s location and altitude = sun rays shorter, less protective layer. Learned in elementary school.
Omg yessssssss we feel that way too. It’s crazy we’re all here and we want to go out but it has to be early. 😢Yessss it goes from us using a short sleeve to then a sweater and then you need a rain jacket or umbrella ☔️😅😂😅🤣 that tripped us out too 🙌🏼🥰
Right!! Everything seems a little crazy right now with the weather and it's hard to plan outings! I hope things get better soon.
San Francisco, London...!!! Nothing a jumper and umbrella won't fix
I guess everyone is different. I actually like to stay inside. I don't like going out unless I really have to.
I am like that sometimes. I think now that we've set up our home the way we like it (compared to when we first arrived) we enjoy staying inside a lot more.
Thank you! How about cost of rent and healthcare? Do you find that, all considered, it’s cheaper than bring in the global north?
For us, rent is comparable to what we would pay for an apartment in the U.S. But it is not an expense we calculate monthly because it is covered as a part of my husband's job. We have not had any major medical experiences here. When we've been to the doctor for minor treatments, we've submitted claims to our insurance in the U.S.
How did you buy your place/car..?what’s the process?
We didn’t buy our place. And our car was purchased from a colleague departing the country.
So, Try Vilcabamba or Olon. You might like it.
Thank you for the recommendations!
You can take a trip to a warmer area in Ecuador for cheap.
Yes! I can't wait to visit somewhere warmer one of these days.
I'm now scratching Ecuador off my list.
I hope you enjoy where you decide to travel instead.
Omg I experienced seasonal depression in 2021 when it switched from summer to fall.
Oh, did you? How did you manage/cope?
@@TheJazzyNation1 yes, it was interesting because I never felt like that but during that time I noticed a difference in my mood (my feelings were hurt lol). I didn’t rely have a coping strategy. I just focused on my goal which was to move to a new city.
You didn’t get sunburn stop the cap, you probably got heat rash at the most.
Don’t be racist.
I'm planning a trip to Manta as i hope to retire outside of the US, somewhere hot, near the coast where I live affordably and peaceably thank you for sharing your perspective.
That's awesome! Yes, Quito is not warm and tropical at all. But it's a nice place to be. Thank you for watching!
You are absolutely right about all what you said. Ohh gosh I wish I knew this before moved and sold all our stuff to move here in Cuenca. It is not spring type of weather at all.. It is cold for us.. we visited medellin Colombia that city yes it is spring weather but not to move there due to the traffic, big city and somewhat of crime.
oh yes, it’s super hard to move to a place and then realize it’s not what you expected but I hope you are having a good experience in Cuenca. It’s a really cool city. Take care!
Welcome to Ecuador 🇪🇨
Thank you!
Very helpful video! I too am very sensitive to gloomy weather.
You're welcome! Yes, it's a real thing.
I Google everything😂 I need to know where I'm going, who's there, what do the streets look like on Google maps, whats the hourly temperature?😂
Yes! I do that now. I will not be surprised again lol.
Are you still in Quito? Looking to move there
Yes!

Hi! Good luck with your move. I wish I could help. Check out my other videos for more Ecuador info.
Young lady ....I'm staying outside of Chicago and my Rent in this area is $1,600 nothing included in top of that they're charging $125 per month car 🚗 Parking so i don't think Quito is that bad.... I wish i can move to Ecuador to enjoy life ....
Quito is great. I hope you get the chance to move abroad one day too. It's a wonderful experience that comes with challenges but so many more beautiful blessings. Good luck and take care.
Space heaters are at MegaMaxi
I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it. Thanks.
I'm am from Liberia I want to visit Ecuador but I don't have family the can you help me

Move to the cost like Salinas , manta or go to Brooklyn New York
I have heard great things about the coastal cities.
what part of ecuador is this??
Quito.
Why not get a sad lamp??? They only need to hit your eyes. As The body/brain sees the differenting light ,it creates uplifting chemicals Love Mikayla
I've never heard of this before. I'll look it up! Thank you.
Good advice!!
Thank you!
I have my sunscreen muled in from Amazon along with an electric blanket. I dont like rugs. I wear colorful socks and animal slippers
yes, to colorful socks, and animal slippers!
Jazz, I somehow lost track of you and missed a whole baby! I’ll be catching up and then keeping up 🙂
It's okay! I took some breaks in between then and now. Take care!
You do a good job dealing with some folks' unnecessarily negative comments...lol (I'd say you could feel free to ignore them... ;) )
Thank you! I try my best to respond to every comment I get. Negative or positive. Thank you for your kind comment, though!
God, thank you for being our compass in Jesus name. Amen 🙏
Thanks for watching.

Take vitamin d3. It will help
I will look into this. Thank you.
Hey G2, at ecuator couldnt one put back (or face or arms) in sun for 15 minutes few times a week? Real Vit D?. Isnt her hair beautiful !!! Great to see Jasmine again. Shes darling. She was studying Spanish, on line tutor, last I watched her....and very pregnant.
Global Granny
You have the besstttttt view! It’s so beautiful!! 🌞
We really do! I feel so blessed to be able to look outside from where we live every day.
@@TheJazzyNation1 it’s such an amazing fun and the best part is you don’t have to leave home lol
I doubt anyone considering a move to Ecuador would find this video useful as it focuses almost entirely on weather. It's very easy to look up weather history for any location on the planet. There are a million things someone needs to consider before moving overseas. Weather is probably the easiest thing to plan for.
I love that for you! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video (about the weather). I hope you have an excellent time doing whatever you plan to do next with your life. Take care!
Come to Mauritius
I would love to!
Are people really Prejudice there like it is in America and some places?
I haven't experienced prejudice here like i have in Ecuador.
Same like Fl 😊
Thank you for watching!
Funny how you moved to Ecuador.. and had a ‘ Colorado Tee Shirt on “ 🤗
Yes! I am a Colorado girl and this is my favorite shirt!
@@TheJazzyNation1 I will be going to Ecuador Dec 1st for 3 weeks. My daughter moved to Colorado (10 miles west of Denver)2 years ago.. soo beautiful there 😎
It's gotta really cost a lot to bring all that stuff from the US???
Yes, but we are fortunate that my husband's job covers moving expenses.
@@TheJazzyNation1 Awesome. Gotta love it! Not everyone is so lucky.
Do u live in Quito?
Yes! We do.
Im from Ecuador @@TheJazzyNation1
Are the homes insulated?
I want to say yes. But honestly, I am not 100 percent sure how homes here are made and insulated.
@@TheJazzyNation1 That’s fair, I just wondered because what you are describing sounds like my experience in Morocco and the homes are made of concrete so the walls aren’t insulated.
Most of them are not.
@@ShanayBraxton Our home has concreate walls.
Are there jobs in Ecuador ?
I don’t have that information.
Didn't look into the WEATHER first?
I did but I was still surprised at the overall climate when I got here. Thanks for tuning in!
Why would u move to there? I'm Ecuadorian myself but life is hard over there, dangerous
We are here for work! And we love the work we do but I agree, sometimes life can be a little tough for us as foreigners but we are learning to adapt and find things we love! Thank you for watching.
Radhaugo108, thank you so much for your comments because I was going to say the almost exact same🙄Geez, I don’t want to be mean, but, yeah, she sounds like such an airhead!!😮
First of all if you’re close to the Ecuador how do you not know you’ll susceptible to sunburn?!
My mouth was opened the whole time I watched this video. Nuff said!
Haha thanks for watching!
Please 🙏 leave
Ecuador 🔥🔥🔥👁️. 👁️
👄
The weather ☁️🌡️ 10000° war btw military and cartels.
We are doing our best to stay safe.
Yes. It really is especially now with the inflated price of things in the US. I’m grateful to be here.
Complaining about the whether is not necessarily first world problems as it is climate problems. Reality is there some places in the states or even the world that just get better whether and all 4 season compared to other places. First world problem is more like complaining your seat doesn’t recline at the movie theater😂
You’re awesome! Thanks so much for tuning in.
You should have moved to the coast instead of living at a very high altitude.
I’m happy with Quito.
XD I heard the first sentence and I knew she was talking about Quito
QUITO!!!! 😊
😅
Thanks for watching.
Canada's gloomy as F#$K that's why I'm moving to Paraguay one day
Good luck on your move!
@@TheJazzyNation1 thanks dude I'll be Doing travel blogs/new life blogs in Paraguay and its neighbouring countries 🇵🇾🇨🇱🇦🇷🇧🇷🇺🇾🇨🇴
Don't go to Ecuador if you like hot dry weather
I have found the climate to be variable depending on where in Ecuador you travel to.
Let's see... moderate weather vs seeing "People" in the "communitah" where you live putting Confederate Flags in their Flag Post. Cuando yo soy repatriar? I'm Black, my Spanish is terrible but so are Confederate Flags and the People that put them in their Flag Posts.
Thank you for watching I hope this video was helpful.
Take aways so far
1. It rains during rainy season.
2. The sun can give you sunburns.
3. "When it's cold it's cold"
I love how you watched the whole video and summarized points! Way to go, and thank you for watching my video!
Cuenca was not impressive to me. It give me depression instantly
Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. Was there a place in Ecuador you enjoyed traveling to?
Says things arent less exspensive then shows imported goods lol.
Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to watch and comment on my video!
Do you really have nothing more interesting to say about Ecuador? You can buy a little stove or a heater if you are going to stay longer in Ecuador.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video!
Girl, go straight to the point
Thanks for tuning in!
Go COLORADO!!
Quito is not Ecuador. There are places that don't get rain at all and there are places where it's an actual rain forest.
Yes to Colorado. True Quito doesn’t represent all of Ecuador I hope I mentioned that in this video. The title is to help capture my audience.
There is a 2nd and a 3rd world??? Smh
I don't understand your question.
Cars are a waste here and a good way to get robbed
We really enjoy having a car here. I’m sorry if a robbery has happened to you.
@@TheJazzyNation1 it has never happened to me but obviously you don't watch the news or are in any Expats groups
Get out now.
We are okay.
What? You moved to another country based on what 2 people told you? Very smart move!!!!!
We moved too Ecuador for work opportunities. So yes, smart move indeed as far as career advancement!
