There is no comparison, because they represented two different years and type of life. The beginning and the end. Both were different in many ways. It took one to get to the other. Hope you understand what I mean. I praise Kevin Costner for going after his dream. That’s what made the USA, a dream. He didn’t fail, he followed through, the people failed him. Quit it. I love westerns just as much as the next guy…even the not so great ones, but this one ain’t worth putting in cinema. Straight to streaming would make more sense. Was wayyy too long and too much like a tv show. I’m sure that’s what they’ll do chapter 2….straight to steaming.

I found Horizon to be exceptionally good. The first release is just getting you familiar with the multiple story lines... let's follow through with this 4-part movie series and then pick it apart. Give it the chance it deserves.
There won't be a 3 or 4 because the money is all gone. Kevin spent at least at $140 millon and it only sold $30 million in tickets. The theaters keep half of that, So Horizon is still $125 Million in the hole. Chapter 2 got cancelled because the theaters owners know it will Bomb even worse. It's Over.
Gave it a chance. It was unbelievably bad. Surprisingly bad. No wonder the other films got canceled.

I don't want Horizon an American saga movie canceled. It's a great blessing to our western movies. The actor, director and all the other people in the movie is very important to make the best movie ever.
Horizon is a great movie. The scenery is awesome and the story line is great! People, give it a chance. Anyone who loves Westerns like me is going to love it. I would have sat thru Horizon 2 at the same time, if I could have. It sounds like folks don't have the attention span anymore to sit thru a movie. I enjoy the story line and want to see more as to how it develops. I was very emotional re all the characters. GO SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!
I like westerns. Didn't like this movie. We got multiple character stories happening, and most aren't interesting. If they are interesting then it will only be once out of the 4 times the story will shift to them. Rest is just boring.

I used to love Yellow Stone but got old by season 3I stopped watching. I just saw Horizon . I loved it. More than I would was looking forward to, part 2.
If not theatrical release, I hope a streaming service picks it up.
Having just watched horizon chapter one at Wyoming theater…
My boyfriend and I were the only ones in the theater… we were surprised…
Enjoyed the scenery… the acting and characters were all very captivating and at the end - I know I just have to see the next chapter…

Considering most of the garbage being funded by Netflix, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video, it would be terrific if one of those streaming service platforms would get behind Costner’s plans for his 4-part saga and fund it to its conclusion. Western projects have been proven to be very popular on these streaming platforms and Horizon is quality work from an actor/director who knows how to make a western.

One of the worst big-budget westerns ever made.
It did not fail , it might not have met the expectations of the critics, but we will catch up to his incredible story and of course we will see the 4 chapters. So sick of anything for sensationalism
Horizon was great! What are people talking about? Just watch and you'll see. I'm in my twenties and usually prefer sci-fi, but Dune was a similar run time and I found myself feeling it was too long and often conscious I was at the theater. Just saw a quiet place and felt the same. Horizon was compelling end to end compared to Dune. Just watch it first.

Screw the critics. The movie was excellent. In the post truth world up is down. I saw this movie yesterday. I thought it painted a great picture of the harshness of the old west.

How can you talk about a fail or Fail abroad, when the movie here in Germany will be in Cinema from 22 August? This seems to be nothing else as Hollywood hate and jealousy for the great work of someone who knows how an excellent damn movie can be made and also gets shit done as it should be done and not as Hollywood does or want to be done.
Respect Kevin and you jealous people don't hate him because he has the balls to make everything alone and get a better movie as a bunch of people together.

It's a western. Westerns perform poorly outside of states so world box office returns will not help recover from bad domestic box office returns. Movie is bombing, and people that have seen it are disappointed with it

1. The movies with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, were mostly Western and they boomed in Europe (Germany, Italy, Hungary, and so on).
2. The movies of Sergio Leone and many other movies were Western and boomed in Europe and around the world and not only in America.
3. Unless you are Nostradamus or coming from the future, how you can predict or say what will happen in the future. We have first to wait till the time comes and then talk.
4. From 100 comments that you can read in every review, you can read maybe only one that says that he didn't like the movie.
Only if you are one of Hollywood's members, then makes sense to talk and say what you have said.
@@BurimPrroi I don't read professional reviews. Everything professional made review about a Disney product gets high scores regardless of quality. Why would I trust professional reviews if they are afraid of upsetting parent company?
I look at online reviews by fans and viewer.. People that have nothing to gain for their opinions. UA-cam is mixed with mostly positive at first but is shifting towards more negative. Reddit is mostly negative.
@@BurimPrroi Why are you bringing up the old western directors movies viewership? Those days are long gone. We try to recreate their movies, but look at modern viewership for westerns made since let's say the 90s. 30 year gap to work with. Westerners now struggle out of the US. Comparing viewership from the 60s to now saying westerns do alright globally is just misleading. 60 year gap. There is going to be a shift in audience especially now that other countries are making their own cultural cinema

New line cinemas and costners production just cancelled that august premier due to this film flopping at the box offices.

The Theater owners cancelled Chapter 2 because they knew it would bomb even worse than #1. They put Horizon on 3300 screens for the last 2 weeks and Nobody showed up. It's a Loser.
@@daveclark8337 the theater owners didn't, the studio did. Theater owners now have to refund, they actually lose.
@@ssosmcin AMC and Cinemark LOSE money when they have to screen a movie to empty theaters. If only 5 people show up, that doesn't even cover the electricity bill. It also cost money for WB to Distibute the movies into theaters and they lost $$ too. Horizon 1 only made $25 Mil and now everyone knows the 'saga' is cancelled, so #2's ticket sales would a tiny fraction of that.
Its so unfair to not give the movie a chance. Yellowstone was great but it got to be tired. Kevin was absolutely phenomenal in Yellowstone. He needs a fair chance for his Horizon. He's amazing in everything he does. Give it a chance.

I think a lot of people thought it was,a great movie. The reviews aren't even that bad like they are saying. Maybe Hollywood just doesn't like how much attention it was getting.
It will be released to TV and gross more money than Yellowstone as it will equal about 25hrs worth of content by the end of the 4 "movies".

Costner was TOO AMBITIOUS in taking his dream to the big picture, it was the perfect storm for failure at the box office with the post covid home movie streaming world and the unpopularity of westerns. I loved Dances With Wolves and Open Range and I went to see Horizon installment one. I did not think it was a great movie but sure I would have like to have streamed the next three just to be able to fairly judge the work in its entirety and see the end. I mean who have ever even attempted to do what he was trying with 4 movies in a saga, I think the "going west and last frontier" has seen its days. His master piece of the last frontier will never be topped in "Dances With Wolves", not surprised it did not do well in this age of moviegoers. Thanks for the many great movies Kevin. 🙏
It's a long movie but when it ended I had to look at my watch because I couldn't believe it was over. On another note... I have enjoyed pretty much ALL of KC movies... BUT... when he opens his mouth on political issues... he pisses off al least half of his possible viewers. I get it, every one has the right to their own opinion and KC is no different... but if KC wants to get involved in politics, he has to know that there are many (probably millions) of people who will never ever watch one of his movies again, let alone pay for one at the theater! So he may come back with an "eff em', who cares" right??? Well I'm thinking, maybe, just maybe... this may be the difference between a flop and a chapter 2 release... It's your business KC and it's your pocket book, but my advice is to stay the eff away from politics and do the thing that you are best known for, and that is making movies/tv shows that entertain the people... Keep your political beliefs to yourself!!!!
Good movie though, I'm kind of disappointed that I probably won't get to see the remaining chapters.

My family here in Maine love Yellowstone and were not happy when they delayed the second half of season 5 for so long. Supposedly it will finish in November, but we have heard that before. We have seen the ads for Horizon and were waiting for it to get here to possibly watch it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of good advertisement here for when it will be in theaters here in our neck of the woods. We are at least willing to give it a try. With the economy the way it is nobody wants to waste money so any bad publicity for anything these days will deture people.

need to be seen on large screen! Theaters are responsible for low viewing numbers!

First_ Costner did not “walk away” from Yellowstone. An a##hole named Taylor Sheridan screwed up the shooting schedule and, as a result, Kevin became unavailable. Sheridan killed the golden goose. Second - Horizon was not a flop. It’s an outstanding movie. We’ve got to stop measuring everything by comparison to the “last big thing”. Third - Yellowstones franchise is already on the downside of the curve. None of the spinoffs have caught fire. None of the other Taylor Sheridan projects have caught fire. And watch the viewership of Yellowstone fall off substantially without Kevin Costner.
Long after Taylor Sheridan is only an answer to a trivia question, HORIZON and Kevin Costner’s legacy will be movies that will be watched repeatedly for decades.

I am a western genre fan but the western genre era has come and gone. Unless a western is exceptionally good no one in the gen z generation is going to see it especially at 3 hours in length.

There is no way I’m going to see ANY movie in a theater. Once a film is released to a streaming service, I’ll rent if appropriate, watch multiple times if possible, and buy the DVD series when released in totality. GoT, Justified, Hell On Wheels, Billions and more are part of my video library. I’m just now binging on Suits. Please, Mr. Costner, don’t be too discouraged. There are lots of projects that didn’t meet expectations at first, but gained momentum over time and became beloved classics!

I saw the movie yesterday and i have to admit it was not bad at all, the only complain i had was that the movie was too long, like 3 hours long. I don't know why it had such a poor reception in theaters.

Horizon chapter 1 was the set up for Chapter 2.

I saw Horizon and it was good we need more westerns
My wife and I saw the 1st installment this weekend and it did not disappoint.
We are so hoping installment #2 will be released. I think people will warm up to the project. Or at least that's my hope.

I heard terrible things about Horizon which surprised me. However, I think it’s karma since Costner bailed on Yellowstone. He owed it to his fans to finish what he started. He was being paid an enormous amount of money for a few weeks of work. Sheridan was the creator so I blame Costner for the split. Lots of us don’t like our boss but we still do our jobs. Not a fan anymore. His character (personal character) shows him a quitter & a cheat!
Hey, Kevin wanted to make his movie, he spent his money to do it, not everybody likes it, I know I didn’t and I really wanted to! But I’ve spent money on being some thought we’re going to be cool and they ended up a bummer so that’s all that happened. He spent his money on something that didn’t turn out. I contributed $24.

The audiences I was with loved it. Beautiful, very beautiful film. What a country! And great acting! Very logical storylines of indigenous people without protection against the settlers who made it their land, against the indigenous people who didn't want them, against the bullies who felt free to do so without any law protecting others. A hard life. Great human interactions that you see in normal life today, I hope. Check it out with an open mind and enjoy!

The entire Yellowstone cancellation is buried in murky BS. Everyone blames the other. The bottom line is that Costner, Sheridan, and Paramount should have put their fanbase first. It was one last season; finish it. But no, like spoiled children, they stormed off the field.
The way I see it, they didn't give a $hit about their fanbase; why should the fanbase give a $hit about them? I don't watch Paramount productions (I can't cancel because of the package it's wrapped in). I won't bother going to the movies to watch Horizon or anything else Costner or Sheridan produce, for that matter.

Horizon was okay at best. It felt too rushed and seemed like it skipped through too much content that should've been there.

I did not compare Horizon with Yellowstone Yellowstone. Kevin Costner is one of my favorite actors Kevin Costner however I was extremely disappointed in Kevin this video. It was extremely hard to follow and figure out what was going on.
